Website Design for Accountants in Darwin

Websites for tax agents, BAS agents and accounting practices in Darwin, Palmerston and Litchfield, built by our Adelaide team by phone and email. Your site can show employers that you handle Territory payroll tax, give Aboriginal corporations and mango growers a page each about their own year, and put your portal and booking page one tap away for clients anywhere from Casuarina to Nhulunbuy.

What a Darwin practice's website should show

The Territory is the one part of Australia with no land tax, every Territory place on the ATO's zone list sits in Zone A, and roughly one in five of the country's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations is based here. A Darwin client reads an accountant's site looking for signs that you know which of those apply to them.

  • Territory Revenue Office work, minus the interstate filler

Website templates written for the southern states talk about land tax reviews and surcharges, which mean nothing to a Darwin home owner. Name what you actually do with the Territory Revenue Office instead: registering employers for payroll tax, lodging their monthly and annual returns through INTRA, working out who belongs in a group. If you act for Territorians who own a unit in Brisbane or Adelaide, say you deal with that state's land tax for them.

  • A page for Aboriginal corporations

If you prepare annual reports for corporations registered with ORIC, or work alongside their auditors, give that work a page of its own. Say which reporting tiers you look after, how you work with directors and the CEO, whether you travel to communities or meet in Darwin, and that you plan the year around reports falling due six months after balance date. Describe the sectors you know, such as land and water management, health or housing, instead of naming corporations without their agreement.

  • Zone A, written into your individual returns page

Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine and Humpty Doo are Zone A for the zone tax offset, while Nhulunbuy, Groote Eylandt, Tennant Creek and Wadeye are special areas. The ATO has amended past returns for zone residents who hadn't claimed the offset, and says it doesn't plan to automatically amend returns in future years, so a line saying you check it on every return, with a link to the ATO's calculator, is worth its place.

  • Mango growers in the rural area and around Katherine

Territory farms picked 4.3 million trays of mangoes in 2025-26, split between the Darwin region and Katherine. If growers are part of your book, a page that talks about their year, with a harvest workforce taken on for the season, packing sheds, fruit sent interstate and overseas, and a year's income arriving in one stretch, will speak to them better than a generic line about primary production.

  • Darwin, Palmerston, Litchfield and the towns beyond

Someone in Rosebery may search for an accountant in Palmerston, and someone in Howard Springs or Humpty Doo for one in Litchfield or simply 'the rural area'. Name your office suburb, the three council areas you draw from and any Top End towns you serve, and tell clients in Jabiru, Katherine or Nhulunbuy how to work with you without a long drive or a flight.

  • Badges a client can click through

Send us your current Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks partner badge with the address of your advisor directory listing, plus your TPB registration number and your CPA Australia, CA ANZ or IPA membership. Each sits in the footer and on the about page, linked to the listing or register entry behind it. A Client portal button in the header takes existing clients to the document and e-signing system you already pay for, keeping tax file numbers out of website forms.

  • Booking times shown in Darwin time

The Territory doesn't use daylight saving, so from October to April a Sydney or Melbourne client is an hour and a half ahead of you and an Adelaide client an hour ahead. Set your Calendly, Microsoft Bookings or practice software page to Darwin time, print 'Darwin time' beside the button, and we link it from every page. Booking built into the site itself is quoted as a separate job.

Accounting in Darwin: Territory taxes, Indigenous corporations and the Top End

Registration, in brief. Tax and BAS agents in the Territory register with the Tax Practitioners Board under the national law that covers practitioners in every other jurisdiction, so a Darwin practice owes clients the same disclosures as one in Perth or Hobart. Our Perth accountants page sets out the client information the TPB expects you to give, and our Sydney accountants page covers the registered tax practitioner symbol. This section deals with what is different up here.

Payroll tax, and no land tax. The Territory Revenue Office, within the Department of Treasury and Finance, administers payroll tax. Its annual threshold moved from $1.5 million to $2.5 million on 1 July 2025, the first change since July 2011, and the general rate remains 5.5%. From 1 July 2026, employers and payroll tax groups with Australia-wide wages of $100 million or more pay 6.5%, while the threshold and deduction settings stay as they were. Employers register and lodge through INTRA, the office's online system, pay by the 21st of the month after each return period and settle the annual return by 21 July. Employers whose wages sit between the old and new thresholds, and large groups facing the new rate, may want to check where they stand, and a short payroll tax page invites exactly that question. On property, the NT Government says plainly that there is no land tax in the NT, though stamp duty is payable when you acquire property. A Darwin practice's property work therefore centres on income tax, capital gains and duty, plus any land tax a Territorian may owe on property in another state.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations. ORIC's State of the sector report counted 3,361 corporations registered under the CATSI Act at 31 December 2025, and 663 of them were in the Northern Territory. What each must lodge depends on its size and income: broadly, under $100,000, a general report; from $100,000 to under $5 million, general, financial and auditor's reports; above $5 million, a directors' report as well. Reports are due within six months of the end of the financial year, which for most corporations means 31 December, and by that date 29% of the corporations required to report had lodged their 2024-25 reports. Nationally, 1,386 of these corporations are also registered charities; the ACNC tells them to keep operating and reporting to ORIC as they always have. A practice that does this work can describe it on its own page and send readers to ORIC for the rules, leaving each corporation's particular obligations to the advice you give its board.

Zone A, special areas and growers. The ATO's zone list names more than 500 Territory locations, and all of them sit in Zone A; 302 are special areas, including Nhulunbuy, Groote Eylandt, Alyangula, Tennant Creek, Maningrida and Wadeye. The ATO bases eligibility on a person's usual place of residence and says someone who works in a zone without living there, such as a fly-in fly-out worker, isn't eligible, so the offset follows where a client lives rather than the site they fly to. On the land, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries reports that Territory growers produced 4.3 million trays of mangoes in 2025-26, 2.3 million in the Darwin region and 2 million around Katherine, which is about 52% of Australia's crop, grown on 6,350 hectares and supporting more than 3,500 direct jobs at harvest.

Councils, clocks and working with us. Greater Darwin spans three councils: the City of Darwin, from the CBD and Parap out to Casuarina and the northern suburbs; the City of Palmerston, about 20 km south-east; and Litchfield, whose mostly rural and rural-residential land takes in Howard Springs, Humpty Doo, Coolalinga and Berry Springs. The Territory keeps Australian Central Standard Time all year, so Darwin is half an hour behind Brisbane and an hour and a half ahead of Perth, and from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April it is an hour behind Adelaide and an hour and a half behind Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart. We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, working with Darwin practices by phone and email and booking calls in your time. We haven't built for a Territory business yet; our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD.

Two sites with parts a Darwin practice can borrow

Neither client is in the Territory or is an accounting practice. Club One's site has board profiles and a page explaining gaming machine entitlements, and Simple Engineers shows fee ranges in its quote form. The review below comes from an accounting firm we built a website for.

Home page of the Club One (SA) website

Club One (SA)

Community, creative & tourism · South Australia

A South Australian not-for-profit whose seven-page site has board profiles, a four-part online grant application and a page explaining gaming machine entitlements. A practice that acts for Aboriginal corporations could use the same approach for a page walking a board through its ORIC reporting tier and the records you'll need from them each year.

Home page of the Simple Engineers website

Simple Engineers

Professional services · Adelaide

An Adelaide structural engineering firm whose quote form shows fee ranges and accepts file uploads. A Darwin practice could show starting prices for an individual return or a sole trader's accounts, and let a client in Katherine or Jabiru describe what they need before the first call, with documents left for your portal.

“Salem was fantastic to work with on our accounting firm’s website. From day one, he was professional, responsive…”

Questions from Darwin accountants

There's no land tax in the Territory. Should our website mention it at all?

Only where it helps a reader. If you look after Territorians with rentals interstate, say you handle the land tax those states charge and name the ones you deal with most. Otherwise leave it out, and read any template wording you start from for stray land tax references before you send it to us. If you want a source, the NT Government's property taxes page states that there is no land tax in the NT.

How should we describe our work with Aboriginal corporations?

In the terms boards use: the reporting tiers you handle, the reports you prepare, the 31 December deadline most corporations work to, how you meet with directors and whether you travel to community. Link to ORIC for the rules rather than restating them. Use photos only of people who have agreed to appear, and ask before naming any corporation you act for. You supply the wording; we arrange the page so a chairperson or CEO can reach it from the menu.

Should our individual returns page talk about the zone tax offset?

A sentence or two is enough: Territory locations on the ATO's zone list are all Zone A, many remote ones are special areas, and eligibility depends on where a client usually lives. Link to the ATO's zone list and calculator rather than quoting the base amounts, which the ATO sets. If the rules change, editing that sentence is a text change covered by the $30 monthly hosting.

Many of our clients are in Katherine, Nhulunbuy or on Groote Eylandt. How can the site serve them?

Give them a short section on working with you from a distance: how documents reach you through your portal, when you take phone and video meetings, and any days you visit their town. We hand-code each site and compress its photos, so pages stay light on a patchy mobile connection. If you fly out on set dates, the contact page can list them and you can change them by email.

Our clients book from interstate. How do we avoid time zone mix-ups?

Set your booking tool to Darwin time and write 'Darwin time' beside office hours and appointment times. From October to April, Darwin is an hour and a half behind Sydney and Melbourne, and it is half an hour behind Brisbane all year, so a client booking a 9 am slot from Melbourne needs to know whose 9 am it is. We link the booking page you already use from every page.

You're in Adelaide. How does a Darwin practice work with you?

By phone and email. You send your services, registration and membership details, team photos and the portal and booking links you use; we build a draft and send you the link. You ask for as many changes as you like and pay once you approve it: $399 for one page, $899 for up to 3 pages or $1,499 for up to 8, with no GST added. We reply within 24 hours, and from October to April our clocks are an hour ahead of yours.

Planning a website for your Darwin practice?

Tell us which clients you want more of, whether employers, Aboriginal corporations, growers or individuals across the Top End, and which portal, software and booking tools you use. We'll send a quote and then a draft, and you pay only once you've approved it.
