Website Design for Accountants in Sydney

Websites for Sydney accounting practices, tax agents and BAS agents that show your registration where clients check it, explain your services without jargon, and tell people from Penrith to the Northern Beaches how to start working with you.

What a Sydney accounting firm's website needs

When someone compares Sydney accounting firms, the questions barely change from one client to the next. Are you registered? Do you handle work like theirs? Can they get to your office, or will you meet online? And what does the first step involve? A practice website should settle those four before the enquiry form.

  • The TPB symbol, with your number

Registered tax and BAS agents who meet the Tax Practitioners Board's criteria can request a symbol unique to their registration. We place it in your header or footer, showing your registration type and number, and link it to the TPB Register, where a client can confirm you're registered and see any conditions.

  • Tax agent or BAS agent, worded correctly

The TPB is clear that BAS agents can provide only some of the services tax agents can. If your practice has both kinds of registration, each service page says which one covers it, so a bookkeeping client never reads “tax returns” on a page belonging to a BAS agent.

  • Memberships, without the sales talk

CPA Australia, CA ANZ or IPA membership belongs near the top. The profession's code of ethics rules out exaggerated claims and disparaging comparisons in marketing, which suits how we write anyway: plain statements about who you are and what you do, no “Sydney's leading firm”.

  • Where you are and how you meet

Your office suburb, the nearest station and parking if clients visit, and whether you meet by video or phone. A business owner in Penrith wants to know whether a firm based in the CBD expects them to come into town for every meeting.

  • The languages your team speaks

At the 2021 Census the most common languages other than English used at home in NSW were Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese and Vietnamese. If your accountants work in any of these, or others, say so near the top of the page. We don't translate, but a page in another language works well when you supply the wording.

  • Your portal and software, linked rather than rebuilt

Returning clients look for the place to log in, upload documents and sign. We link the portal and e-signing tools you already use from the header of every page, and name the software you work in, such as Xero or MYOB. We don't build portals; we make your existing one easy to find.

Accounting in Sydney: registration, ethics and local clients

Tax and BAS agent work is regulated nationally, so a Sydney practice follows the same rules as one in Perth or Hobart. The Tax Practitioners Board tells consumers that anyone they pay to prepare or lodge returns or statements, or to give tax advice, should be registered with it, and to check the TPB Register before engaging them. The register shows whether a practitioner is registered and whether any conditions or sanctions apply to that registration.

The TPB's Registered tax practitioner symbol lets a client start that check from your own site. Each symbol is unique to one registration and is issued through the TPB's online request form once you've agreed to its terms of use. It has three parts: the graphic, your registration type and your registration number. The TPB supplies JPG and PNG files for web use, and when you display it you must include the number and type. We use the file the TPB gives you exactly as supplied.

Membership of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ or the Institute of Public Accountants brings the APESB's standards with it; the APESB says its standards are mandatory for members of all three bodies. Paragraph R115.2 of APES 110, the code of ethics, says that in marketing a member must be honest and truthful, and must not make exaggerated claims about their services, qualifications or experience, or disparaging references or unsubstantiated comparisons to the work of others. Where a member is unsure about a form of advertising, the code encourages them to consult their professional body, so that's where final questions about wording should go.

Locally, the practical questions are about place and language. Greater Sydney covers more than 30 council areas, from the Northern Beaches to Camden, and a client in Castle Hill and one in Hurstville both want to know whether you're nearby or meet online. Name your suburb, the areas you serve in person and the languages your team speaks. If you help business clients with state taxes such as payroll tax, which Revenue NSW administers, list it among your services.

Accounting and professional services websites we've built

We built the website for Quang Luc Le's accounting firm; his review is below. From our portfolio, Resolve Forward is a Sydney professional services practice, and Simple Engineers shows fee ranges and document uploads working on a quote form.

Home page of the Resolve Forward website

Resolve Forward

Professional services · Sydney

A Sydney family law dispute resolution practice. We built six service pages with FAQs, priced packages that link straight to online booking, a five-step intake form, a contact form and a newsletter signup: much the same structure a firm with fixed-fee services and a booking tool needs.

Home page of the Simple Engineers website

Simple Engineers

Professional services · Adelaide

Adelaide structural engineers. Their quote form shows an estimated fee range for common jobs and accepts photos, plans or documents, alongside four service pages and 16 articles. An accountant who publishes “from” prices for returns or BAS could use the same approach.

“Salem was fantastic to work with on our accounting firm’s website. From day one, he was professional, responsive…”

Questions Sydney accountants ask us

Can our Sydney firm show the TPB symbol on its website?

If you're a registered tax or BAS agent and meet the TPB's eligibility criteria, yes. You agree to the terms of use, request your unique symbol through the TPB's online form, and send us the PNG or JPG file. We display it with your registration number and type, as the TPB requires, and link it to the TPB Register.

What can we say about our CPA or CA membership?

State it accurately: which body, and whether the practice or particular accountants hold the membership. If you want a member logo on the site, check your body's rules for using it first; we only add artwork you've been given. Under APES 110, marketing has to be honest and truthful, without exaggerated claims or unsubstantiated comparisons, and that's how we write.

Can clients send tax documents through the website?

We'd keep them out of a website form. An enquiry form can take a file, as Simple Engineers' quote form does, but tax file numbers and returns belong in the client portal you already use. We link that portal from every page so returning clients can reach it quickly.

Should we list the Sydney suburbs we serve?

List your office suburb, and the areas you see clients in person if you do. If you work with clients anywhere by video, say that instead of listing dozens of suburbs. A specific line such as “office in Chatswood, video meetings for clients across NSW” is clearer than “servicing all of Sydney”.

You're in Adelaide. Can you build a website for a Sydney accounting firm?

Yes. We're an Adelaide (South Australia) web design team working with businesses Australia-wide by phone and email, and our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD, including Resolve Forward in Sydney. You send your services, registration details and team photos; we build the draft and you pay once you approve it. We reply within 24 hours.

Which package suits a Sydney accounting practice?

A sole practitioner or BAS agent can start with the one-page site at $399. For most small firms we suggest the 3-page site at $899 so services and your team each get room. Practices with several partners or distinct client groups usually need the 8-page site at $1,499.

Ready to start your practice's website?

Tell us your registration type, the services you want to promote and where your office is. We'll send a quote and build the draft, and you pay once you've approved it.
