Website Design for Accountants in Townsville

Websites for tax agents, BAS agents and accounting practices across Townsville, from the CBD to Thuringowa Central, Kirwan, Bushland Beach and Magnetic Island. Soldiers and RAAF members, veterans, fly-in fly-out workers and local employers can each find the work you do for people like them, next to your registration and a simple way to book.

What a Townsville practice's website should cover

Townsville is Australia's largest garrison city. Announcing the 2021 Census results, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs said about 5,500 current serving ADF members and 8,700 veterans lived there, which he put at almost one person in ten in a city of 180,000. The ABS now estimates 206,260 residents and counts 13,122 businesses. A practice site here has some client groups you won't find in most cities.

  • A page for serving members

Lavarack Barracks is home to the Army's 3rd Brigade, and RAAF Base Townsville is at Garbutt, west of the CBD. The ATO publishes a guide for ADF members on income, allowances and work-related deductions, and a separate page on when pay for overseas duty is exempt. If you prepare these returns, a page that mentions deployments, allowances and postings tells a soldier you've done it before.

  • Veterans and families, described with care

If you act for veterans, say what you help with, such as returns after discharge, starting a business or looking after a family member's affairs, in a plain, respectful tone. For pensions and other payments, link to the Department of Veterans' Affairs instead of explaining them yourself.

  • Staying with clients after a posting

Defence families move on posting. A line saying you keep looking after clients by phone, email and portal wherever they're sent gives a member a reason to start with you, and to stay when the removal truck comes.

  • Zone B and FIFO workers

Townsville is in Zone B on the ATO's zone list, and the ATO bases eligibility for the offset on where you usually live. A fly-in fly-out worker whose home is in Townsville may still qualify; one who only works in a zone doesn't. A sentence on your individual returns page shows you know the difference.

  • From-prices for the common jobs

An individual return, a return with a rental property, a sole trader's return, a BAS quarter: a starting price for each, with a line on what makes a return cost more, lets a new client in Kirwan or Aitkenvale decide before they ring.

  • A notice spot for the wet season

A place near the top of the home page for short notices, such as office closures after a flood or cyclone and links to any ATO deadline changes, so you can tell clients what's happening without answering the same call fifty times.

Accounting in Townsville: Defence clients, Zone B and the wet

State rules, in short. Townsville practices register with the Tax Practitioners Board and deal with the Queensland Revenue Office, the same as Brisbane practices. Our Brisbane accountants page covers the TPB's registered tax practitioner symbol, and our Cairns page covers employers of working holiday makers. This section is about Townsville.

Australia's largest garrison city. When the 2021 Census results came out, Veterans' Affairs Minister Matt Keogh said about 14,200 current and former ADF personnel called Townsville home, 8,700 veterans and 5,500 serving members, in a city of about 180,000 at the time. Lavarack Barracks, in Murray on the slopes of Mount Stuart, houses the 3rd and 11th Brigades. The ATO's guide for ADF members sets out how pay and allowances are treated, including when pay for eligible duty overseas is exempt, and names two offsets members may be eligible for: the zone tax offset and the overseas forces tax offset. You don't need to repeat any of it: a page for serving members and their partners that says you deal with these returns, and links to the ATO, is enough.

Zone B, and where FIFO workers live. The ATO's Australian zone list puts Townsville in Zone B. The ATO bases eligibility for the zone tax offset on a person's usual place of residence, and says someone who works in a remote area but doesn't live there, such as a fly-in fly-out worker, isn't eligible. The other side of that rule matters here: a FIFO worker whose usual home is in Townsville may still qualify, because it's the home that counts, not the work site. The ATO sends people to its zone and overseas forces tax offset calculator to work out eligibility and the amount, so a practice that asks new clients where they usually live, as well as where they work, can say on its site that it checks the offset for them.

The wet season and deadlines. Townsville's rain mostly falls between November and April, and when it floods, clients want to know whether your office is open and whether their deadlines have moved. The ATO says it may automatically pause correspondence or defer payments for people and businesses in areas hit by a major disaster, and after the February 2019 floods it moved to give affected Townsville taxpayers and their agents lodgement and payment extensions. A notice space on your home page, updated by email, keeps that information where clients look first, and the change is covered by your $30 monthly hosting.

Working with us. We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St and work with Townsville practices by phone and email. You send your services, registration details and photos of your team and office, we build a draft and send you the link, and you pay once you approve it.

Two sites with features practices ask for

Neither is an accounting firm. One shows a fee range before anyone calls; the other is one of our Queensland clients and shows how much fits on a single page. The review below is from the accounting firm we built a website for.

Home page of the Simple Engineers website

Simple Engineers

Professional services · Adelaide

Structural engineers in Adelaide whose quote form gives a likely fee range up front and accepts attachments, with four service pages and 16 articles behind it. For a Townsville practice the fee-range idea suits returns and BAS work; anything containing tax file numbers still goes through your portal.

Home page of the M.J. Debney Plumbing & Gas website

M.J. Debney Plumbing & Gas

Trades & construction · Queensland

A licensed Queensland plumber and gas fitter: one page with six services, a 13-photo gallery that swipes on a phone, testimonials and a protected contact form. A sole BAS agent or a new practice can launch the same way, then add pages for Defence or FIFO clients as the client list grows.

“Salem was fantastic to work with on our accounting firm’s website. From day one, he was professional, responsive…”

Questions Townsville accountants ask us

Can we have a page just for ADF members?

Yes. It can cover the returns you prepare for serving members, deployment and posting questions, and how you keep working with clients who move away, with links to the ATO's guides for the detail. We'd illustrate it with your own photos rather than official Defence artwork.

Our clients get posted elsewhere. How can the website help us keep them?

Make remote service obvious: a portal button in the header, a sentence on the home page saying you work by phone, video and email anywhere in Australia, and a contact form that asks for the client's current state. A client who's just arrived at a new base can see straight away that nothing needs to change.

Should we explain the zone tax offset for FIFO clients?

A short line is enough: that you check eligibility, that it depends on where the client usually lives, and a link to the ATO's zone list and calculator. Keep the rules on the ATO's pages, so your site stays right if they change.

Can we put up a flood or cyclone notice quickly?

Yes. Email us the wording and we'll add it to the notice space on your home page, then take it down when you no longer need it. It's a text change, so it's covered by the $30 monthly hosting. We reply within 24 hours.

You're in Adelaide. How does a Townsville project work?

By phone and email. We're an Adelaide (South Australia) web design team working with businesses Australia-wide, and our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. We talk through your client groups, you send your words and photos, and we send a draft to review. You pay once you approve it.

Ready for a website that speaks to Townsville clients?

Tell us who you look after, whether that's soldiers, veterans, FIFO workers or local employers, and the registrations you hold. We'll send a fixed quote, build the draft, and you pay once you've approved it.
