Website Design for Accountants in Hobart

Websites for tax agents, BAS agents and accounting practices across Greater Hobart, from the CBD and Sandy Bay to Glenorchy, Bellerive and Kingston. Employers can see that you handle Tasmanian payroll tax, landlords and short-stay hosts can find a page written for them, and existing clients reach your portal in one tap. We're an Adelaide team and work with Tasmanian practices by phone and email.

What a Hobart practice's website should show

Tasmania has its own State Revenue Office, a payroll tax charged at two rates, and a land tax that falls on shacks and holiday homes as well as rentals. Most of what a Hobart client looks for on an accountant's site is the same anywhere in Australia; these are the parts that tell them you know the island.

  • Tasmanian state taxes, called by their names

If you register employers for payroll tax, lodge their returns or check a client's land tax assessment and classification, say so in those words and name the State Revenue Office. An owner whose wage bill is heading towards $1.25 million is looking for a practice that has handled this before, and a vague line about business advisory doesn't tell them that.

  • One page for landlords, shack owners and short-stay hosts

A Hobart property investor can face three separate bills: income tax on the rent, state land tax on anything that isn't their home or a working farm, and council rates that the City of Hobart sets higher for short-stay visitor accommodation. If property clients fill a good part of your year, a page naming all three, with links to the SRO and the council for the figures, is more use than a dot point.

  • The council areas people actually live in

Someone in Howrah or Lindisfarne may search for an accountant in Clarence, and someone in Kingston for one in Kingborough, not in Hobart. Name your office suburb, the council areas you draw clients from and where you'll meet in person, and add parking or bus notes if your office is in the city.

  • Growers, vineyards and fishers outside the city

If you act for orchardists in the Huon Valley, vineyards around Richmond and Cambridge or fishing and aquaculture businesses, give them a heading of their own. Primary production land isn't ordinarily charged land tax, but only once the SRO has classified it, and a grower wants to know you've prepared those applications before.

  • Your registration, where a careful client checks

Your TPB registration number and type with a link to your Register entry, the client information the TPB expects you to give, and your CPA Australia, CA ANZ or IPA membership. We put these in the footer and on the about page, using the artwork each body supplies rather than redrawing anything.

  • Partner badges and a portal button in the header

Send us the Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks badge file that goes with your current status and the link to your public listing, and we'll place it where a business owner choosing by software will see it. A Client portal button sits in the header of every page and goes straight to the document and e-signing system you already pay for, so sensitive files travel through the tool built for them.

  • A first meeting people can book themselves

Link Calendly, Microsoft Bookings or your practice software's booking page from every page, and say how long a first meeting runs, what it costs and whether it can be a video call. If you'd rather have booking built into the site itself, we quote that as a separate job.

Accounting in Hobart: Tasmania's state taxes, property and the south

Registration, in brief. Tax and BAS agents in Tasmania register with the Tax Practitioners Board under the same national law as practitioners everywhere else, so a Battery Point practice has the obligations a Perth or Sydney one has. Our Perth accountants page explains the client information the TPB expects you to give, and our Sydney accountants page covers the registered tax practitioner symbol. What sets a Hobart practice apart is Tasmania's own taxes, so the rest of this section sets them out as the State Revenue Office describes them.

Payroll tax at two rates. The SRO charges payroll tax once an employer's total Australian wages pass $1.25 million a year, or $24,038 a week during a month, and the same threshold applies to a group whose combined wages exceed it. Wages between $1.25 million and $2 million are taxed at 4%, and wages above $2 million at 6.1%. Those settings have applied since 1 July 2018 and are unchanged for 2026-27. The SRO also runs a payroll tax rebate scheme: employers can claim for up to two years for apprentices who began their qualification between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2026, while the windows for new trainees and youth employees closed on 30 June 2025. A practice that registers employers, lodges returns or claims rebates can name that work on its business page and link to the SRO for the current rules.

Land tax and its three classifications. Land tax falls on general land, which the SRO says includes rentals, holiday homes, vacant land, commercial land and shacks. Principal residence land and primary production land aren't ordinarily taxed, and where a property is used partly for something else, the Commissioner splits its value between the classifications. Under the scale the SRO lists from 1 July 2025, general land worth less than $125,000 in total attracts no land tax; above that, the scale charges 0.45% of the value over $125,000 and 1.5% of the value over $500,000, each on top of a fixed amount. An owner's taxable land holdings are added together to work out the tax, related companies are grouped the same way under section 31 of the Land Tax Act 2000, and foreign persons who acquired residential general land from 1 July 2022 pay a surcharge of 2% of the assessed land value. Two SRO exemptions aimed at long-term rentals have eligibility windows that closed on 30 June 2026, but the one for a newly built home let on a lease of at least 12 months lasts for the three full financial years after its occupancy permit, so some landlords will still be inside it.

Short stays and council rates. The City of Hobart bases its general rate on the capital value the Valuer-General sets, then varies the rate in the dollar by land use. For 2026-27, residential property used for short-stay visitor accommodation pays 0.4632 cents in the dollar, exactly twice the 0.2316 cents on other residential property, and vacant residential land pays 0.6146 cents. The council says the aim is to retain housing stock and ensure owners of residential land used for commercial short stays contribute, and the short-stay rate applies once the owner obtains a planning permit for visitor accommodation. Glenorchy, Clarence and Kingborough each run their own rating, so a page for property clients should send each reader to the council their property sits in.

The south, and working with us. Wine Tasmania's Southern Wine Trail lists 30 vineyards, among them vineyards at Richmond and Cambridge and others overlooking the Huon Valley and the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. For farmers, fishers, foresters and small related businesses facing financial hardship, Rural Business Tasmania runs the Rural Financial Counselling Service from offices in Glenorchy and Launceston; if you work alongside its counsellors, your farm page can say so. Our Launceston accountants page goes through what the SRO asks for before it classifies land as primary production. We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, half an hour behind Hobart all year because Tasmania and South Australia change their clocks on the same dates. We haven't built for a Tasmanian business yet; our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD.

Two sites with parts a Hobart practice can use

Neither client is in Tasmania or is an accounting practice. Simple Engineers shows an estimated fee before anyone enquires, and Resolve Forward sells fixed-price first steps through online booking. The review below is from an accounting firm we built a website for.

Home page of the Simple Engineers website

Simple Engineers

Professional services · Adelaide

An Adelaide structural engineering firm whose quote form shows a fee range for each type of job before the visitor sends anything. A practice can borrow that idea to show a starting price for an individual return, a sole trader's year-end accounts or a land tax review, and leave documents to its portal.

Home page of the Resolve Forward website

Resolve Forward

Professional services · Sydney

A Sydney family dispute resolution practice with six service pages, priced packages that lead to online booking, and a five-step intake form. A Hobart practice could offer a fixed-fee first meeting for a new landlord, or for an employer about to cross the payroll tax threshold, in the same way.

“Salem was fantastic to work with on our accounting firm’s website. From day one, he was professional, responsive…”

Questions from Hobart accountants

Should our site quote Tasmania's payroll tax rates?

A short line is fine if payroll tax work is something you want more of: the threshold is $1.25 million in Australian wages, with 4% charged up to $2 million and 6.1% above. The figures haven't moved since 2018, but link to the SRO's rates page anyway. If they change, editing that sentence is a text change covered by the $30 monthly hosting.

Is a page for short-stay hosts worth having in Hobart?

If you look after a number of them, yes. In the City of Hobart a host with a visitor accommodation permit pays a higher council rate, land tax applies to a property that isn't their home, and the income goes in their return. A page that names those three things in plain words and links to the council and the SRO reads as written for them. You supply the wording; we arrange it on the page.

We have clients in Kingston, Bellerive and Glenorchy. Should the site list suburbs?

List the suburbs and council areas you actually see people from, and say where you meet them. Kingston is in Kingborough and Bellerive in Clarence, and people there often search with those names rather than Hobart. A short, accurate list does more than a long one copied from a map.

Some clients are down the Channel or in the Huon Valley. How should the site handle people who rarely come into town?

Tell them how to work with you without the drive: phone and video meetings, your portal for documents and e-signing, and any days you visit. If you see clients in Huonville or Sorell on set days, give that its own line on the contact page so nobody has to ring to find out.

You're in Adelaide. How would a Hobart practice work with you?

Entirely by phone and email. You send your services, registration details, team photos and the portal and booking links you use; we build the draft and send a link you can check in your own time. You ask for as many changes as you like and pay once you approve it. Adelaide is half an hour behind Hobart all year, and we reply within 24 hours.
