Website Costs in Hobart and Tasmania: A 2026 Guide

Tasmania has the lowest average full-time earnings in the country, but a national cost guide says Hobart businesses pay the same price bands as the mainland. Here's what Hobart and Tasmanian studios publish, what mainland providers offer Hobart, and where our fixed prices sit.

Hobart website prices, from starter packages to custom builds

Few Hobart studios publish their prices. This table combines the ones that do, packages that mainland providers advertise to Tasmanian businesses, and the Hobart figures from a national cost-guide site that says it verified them in October 2026. GST treatment varies, and only one of the Tasmanian studios says its price is plus GST.

Lower wages, mainland prices

In May 2026 the ABS put full-time adult ordinary time earnings in Tasmania at $1,846.30 a week, the lowest of any state or territory and about 11% below the national $2,083.70. You might expect Hobart websites to cost less as a result. The cost-guide site says they don't: its national price bands apply unchanged in Hobart, and it describes buying from mainland designers as routine.

One likely reason is that a website is delivered on a screen. A Hobart owner can collect quotes from Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne and Adelaide in an afternoon, so prices get set against the whole country rather than against local wages.

The same guide draws a line within Hobart. It places a service business in Moonah or Glenorchy in the $2,000–$6,000 band, and moves a destination venue or export producer that competes beyond Tasmania up to $6,000–$15,000, because a site that has to win over buyers who have never visited has more work to do. Its separate Hobart web development guide puts development rates at $120–$300 an hour.

Local studios and mainland packages

Several of the lowest prices on web design pages headed Hobart or Launceston come from businesses based elsewhere. Of the low-priced packages we found pitched at Tasmanian businesses, two list Melbourne addresses, one is based in Perth, and another says its team isn't in Tasmania. That's no mark against them, since we're on the mainland too. It does mean a page with Hobart in the heading isn't proof of a local business, so check the address if working with someone nearby matters to you.

Whoever you choose, look past the headline price:

  • Revisions. One $500 starter package includes a single round of revisions. With us you can ask for as many changes as you like before you approve the draft.
  • Platform. One low-priced package runs on the provider's own platform, so ask what happens to the site if you leave. Our sites are hand-coded, and the design and files are yours once paid.
  • Monthly fees. Some packages cost little to build and more each month: one managed plan offered to Hobart businesses is $250 a month, covering hosting, ongoing SEO and changes. Add up three years of fees before you compare.
  • GST. Only one of the Tasmanian studios in the table says its price is plus GST, so ask the others.

When a bigger Tasmanian studio is worth it

For a destination business, a higher quote can be the right one. A larger studio is the better choice if:

  • you need brand identity work and a content strategy as well as the site, which one Hobart studio includes in its top package from $5,500;
  • visitors from interstate or overseas will judge you on professional photography and polished copy, and you want both handled for you, which isn't work we take on;
  • the site has to connect bookings, memberships or a CRM across several systems, the cost guide's $15,000–$40,000 band;
  • you want SEO and advertising managed every month.

For a trade, clinic or local service business in Greater Hobart, most of that goes beyond the job. A clear site that lists your services, the suburbs you cover and a quick way to call usually does what's needed.

Running costs over five years

A Hobart studio that hosts most of the sites it builds lists care plans from $40 a month, covering updates, backups, security and occasional content changes. That's a reasonable local benchmark for upkeep.

For sites we build, hosting is $30 a month with no contract, and it includes unlimited text and image changes on your existing pages. Here's the five-year cost of each of our sites:

Five-year cost of a WebCraft Studio site
ItemOne pageUp to 3 pagesUp to 8 pages
Build$399$899$1,499
Hosting, 60 months at $30$1,800$1,800$1,800

Five years in total$2,299$2,799$3,399

No GST is added to any of those figures. When you set another provider's five-year total beside them, include its yearly licences and any hourly charges for changes.

Free business advice in Tasmania

The Tasmanian Business Advice Service gives established Tasmanian businesses up to five hours of free, independent advice on topics including marketing, cash flow and planning, in person, by phone or online. It's for businesses with 19 or fewer full-time-equivalent staff that have held an ABN for at least 12 months; newer businesses are pointed to the New Business Support Program. An hour spent working out what your website is meant to achieve makes any quote easier to judge. Business Tasmania takes enquiries on 1800 440 026.

Working with us from Hobart

To be upfront: we don't have any Tasmanian clients yet. Our current clients are in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, and the ones outside Adelaide work with us exactly as a Hobart business would, by phone and email with our team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, Adelaide. You can open each of their sites from our portfolio and try it on your phone.

Tasmania and South Australia start and end daylight saving on the same days, so Hobart is half an hour ahead of Adelaide all year round. Your draft arrives as a link you can check whenever suits you, and changes come back to us by email or phone. Lockyer Valley Batteries wrote in their Google review: “Nothing is ever a problem, will email back on a Saturday night if need be.”

Hobart website cost questions

How much does a website cost in Hobart?

Published Hobart prices run from starter packages of about $500–$1,450, through fuller small business sites from $2,800 at one Hobart studio and from $2,900 plus GST at another Tasmanian studio, to $6,000–$15,000 for a custom build. Our sites are $399, $899 or $1,499 by page count, with no GST added.

Are Hobart web designers cheaper than mainland ones?

Not by much, going by published prices. A national cost guide says its price bands apply unchanged in Hobart, even though Tasmanian wages are the lowest in the country. Our prices are the same in Hobart as in Adelaide or Sydney.

Do you have clients in Tasmania?

Not yet. Our current clients are in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. Everyone outside Adelaide works with us by phone and email, which is how a Tasmanian project would run too.

Can you set up bookings for a Tasmanian tourism business?

Yes. We build online booking and payment systems into a site, quoted per job once we know how your bookings work, or we link a booking tool you already use. In South Australia, Cape Fishing Charters takes booking and gift voucher requests through its one-page site.

Do your prices change for Launceston or the north-west coast?

No. The price is the same anywhere in Tasmania, and anywhere else in Australia: $399 for one page, $899 for up to three and $1,499 for up to eight.

Is there an editor so you can change the site yourself?

No. Our sites are hand-coded rather than built in an editor, so changes come to us. Text and image changes on your existing pages are included in the $30 monthly hosting, and new pages or features are quoted before we start them.
