Business Launchpad and the state's Mentoring for Growth program apply across Queensland, and our page for new Brisbane businesses explains both. Ipswich has a local version of the second: according to council's partnerships page, it runs Mentoring for Growth sessions with the Queensland Government several times a year, giving free access to experienced volunteer mentors on topics such as marketing, finances and business planning, open to businesses at any stage. The same page says Ipswich became the first council in Queensland to sign on as a Small Business Friendly Council, in 2020, and re-signed in August 2025.
Council's Elevate Business program, launched in July 2026, supports startups and new businesses as well as established ones. Its Business Booth offers free monthly mentoring and business support sessions run by council's Economic Development Team, starting in January 2027, and its New Business Breakfasts, planned for February and August 2027, introduce people starting out to government departments, agencies and other new owners. Council held one in February 2026, where it also pointed new owners to its monthly Business Ipswich newsletter for events and news.
Council's home-based business page covers running a business, hobby or occupation from your home and links a fact sheet with a self-assessable activity checklist. Ipswich City Council's entry on the Australian Business Licence and Information Service says that setting up a home-based business changes the use of the land, so you may need a development approval, and that requirements can cover neighbour impact, traffic, noise, hours and signage. The council page still uses the terms of the planning scheme that has since been replaced, plus a separate one, "home based business", for Ripley Valley, which has its own development scheme. Ipswich City Plan 2025 took effect on 1 July 2025, so check with council on 07 3810 6666 which rules cover your property.
The customers are arriving quickly. The Ripley Valley priority development area, declared on 8 October 2010, covers more than 4,600 hectares about five kilometres south-east of the CBD and could eventually hold 48,750 dwellings for about 131,000 people; council has assessed development there since 30 September 2013. Council's announcement of City Plan 2025 expected the city's population to double to more than half a million by 2046, with housing growing from 92,700 homes to 192,400. Every one of those households needs local services, and most will look for them by suburb.
The City of Ipswich covers 1,094 square kilometres and borders Brisbane, Logan, the Scenic Rim, Somerset and the Lockyer Valley, so a business on the edge of the city may well work in two council areas. We're an Adelaide team, and we work with Ipswich businesses by phone and email; none of the client sites below is in Ipswich. You send your words and photos, we send a draft link, and you pay once you're happy with it.
