Ipswich began in 1827 as a limestone mining settlement and became a city in 1904, and it's a city in its own right about 40 km west of Brisbane rather than one of its suburbs. Council puts its area at about 1,090 square kilometres, from Goodna and Springfield in the east to Rosewood, Marburg and Grandchester in the west, and the ABS estimated its population at 268,272 in June 2025. Council's planning figures expect about 480,000 residents by 2041, and it gives the city's median age as 33. The Ipswich Motorway, the Centenary Highway and the Logan Motorway link it to Brisbane and Logan, while the Warrego and Cunningham highways head west and south-west, so plenty of Ipswich firms work across the boundary. Our pages on web design in Brisbane and Logan cover the neighbours.
Health, education and manufacturing employ the most people. Council's figures put health care and social assistance at 18.3% of employment, education and training at 11.5% and manufacturing at 10.6%. Council names West Moreton Health, based in Ipswich Central, as the city's second-largest employer and calls it Queensland's fastest-growing hospital and health service. Ipswich Hospital is the main public hospital, with St Andrew's Private Hospital and Mater Private Hospital Springfield alongside it; UniSQ has campuses in Ipswich and Springfield, and TAFE teaches at Bundamba and Springfield. Clinics, allied health practices and tutors near any of these need clear practitioner or course pages, opening hours and a way to book.
Defence matters far more here than across Queensland as a whole. Council describes RAAF Base Amberley as Australia's largest air force base, with about 5,000 staff, and puts defence exports at $1.9 billion, over 20% of the city's total, against a state average of 1.9%. Rheinmetall builds military vehicles at its $170 million centre of excellence at Redbank, Boeing Defence Australia and Raytheon Australia work at Amberley, and Saab has expanded at Bundamba. Manufacturing generated almost $3.5 billion in exports in 2024 and more than 10,000 jobs, and JBS Australia runs its Northern Division from Ipswich, home to what council calls the largest beef processing facility in the southern hemisphere. The smaller firms that machine parts, fabricate steel, service vehicles or maintain sites for these employers need websites that read like a capability statement; our manufacturers page covers that kind of buyer.
Freight is the third pillar. Council counts more than 5,800 full-time jobs in transport, postal and warehousing, and says the city's location and industrial land drew Australia Post to build its largest facility in the southern hemisphere at Redbank Motorway Estate, a $240 million investment it puts at more than 500 jobs. Council expects the Ebenezer Regional Industrial Area to support Inland Rail and the proposed Ebenezer Intermodal Terminal, and to attract 3,000 jobs. The ABS counted 2,338 transport businesses in Ipswich in June 2025, second only to construction's 2,541. For an owner-driver or a small fleet, a single page with truck types, licences, the routes you run and a phone number is often enough; our transport and logistics page goes further.
The city has two centres that feel quite different. In the old CBD, council's $311 million Nicholas Street Precinct added more than 20,000 square metres of shops, dining and leisure space and Australia's first standalone children's library, and council says more than 91 new businesses have opened in the city centre since 2021; it counts the Ipswich Art Gallery, the Queensland Museum Rail Workshops and Queens Park among the centre's draws. In the east, council describes Greater Springfield as one of Australia's largest master-planned greenfield cities, with more than 55,000 residents and a target of one job for every three of them. Out at Willowbank, Queensland Raceway, open since 1999, is a Supercars venue and sits beside the Willowbank Raceway dragstrip. People search by these names, so your site should say whether you're in Ipswich Central, Springfield or somewhere between, and which suburbs you cover. We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St; Ipswich clients work with us by phone and email, and we don't meet in person.
