Website Design for Handymen in Adelaide

Handyman websites for Adelaide that put your hourly rate and job list up front, take a booking for several small jobs in one go, and show the CBS licence details South Australians are told to check. We're an Adelaide team on Hutt St, and the state rules on this page link to the official sources.

What an Adelaide handyman's website needs

South Australia treats a lot of everyday handyman work as building work, which changes what your site should say compared with a handyman's site in Melbourne or Sydney. Customers here also arrive with mixed lists: a screen door that won't latch, a security chain for the front door, a blind for the back bedroom, a gate that drags. The pieces below cover the rates, the booking, the licence and the rental work that make up most Adelaide enquiries.

  • An hourly rate and a priced job list

Your hourly rate, minimum call-out, how materials are charged and whether the Hills or the Fleurieu cost extra in travel, followed by the jobs you do most with a usual time for each: rehanging doors, fitting latches and locks, patching walls, replacing fence palings, putting up shelving, assembling furniture. A customer can add up three jobs before deciding to call.

  • A booking form that takes a list

Add a job, attach a photo, add another. Then the address or suburb, whether it's a rental, a preferred day and a contact number. You see the size of the visit before you ring back. If you'd like customers to pick a time themselves, we can build booking into the site, quoted per job, or link the scheduling app you already use.

  • Your licence, stated the way CBS lists it

If you hold a building work contractor's licence, your licensed name and number go in the footer of every page, and the jobs you list stay within the work your licence allows. If you don't hold one, the site should stick to work that isn't building work, and we'll word it that way.

  • A page built around the minimum housing standards

Several of South Australia's minimum housing standards for rentals are small, practical jobs: keyed locks on external doors, latches on openable windows, a way to screen visitors such as a peep-hole, security chain or lockable screen door, and an external light fitting. Rooming houses add a curtain or blind in each bedroom. Naming those jobs in the same words gives property managers a page they can forward to a landlord.

  • Mobility and safety changes for tenants and older owners

Under the rental reforms that began on 1 July 2024, a landlord can't unreasonably refuse a tenant's reasonable changes for disability, or for mobility or access needs that come with age. If you fit grab rails, lever handles or extra handrails, say so on a page that explains the tenant needs written consent first.

  • A short list of what you hand on

Electrical, gas and plumbing work needs its own contractor's licence and worker registration in South Australia, and mains-powered smoke alarms are electrical work, and larger amounts of asbestos need a licensed removalist. One plain sentence on each tells customers you know the limits and saves a wasted trip.

Handyman work in Adelaide: licensing, rentals, smoke alarms and older houses

Licensing without a small-job threshold. The building work contractor's licence, the registered supervisor behind it and the requirement to put your licence number on advertising are explained on our page for Adelaide builders. What matters for a handyman is how widely the licence reaches. HIA's guide to licensing in South Australia says a licence is needed for building work done for another person, and that building work includes painting, insulation, fencing and paving. Neither that guide nor the SA.GOV.AU licence page sets a dollar figure below which paid building work stops needing one, which is different from the dollar thresholds explained on our Sydney and Melbourne handyman pages. HIA also lists what falls outside: floating, carpet and vinyl flooring not used for waterproofing needs no licence, while pest control and security systems need their own. A licence states the type of work it covers and can carry conditions, such as a maximum contract value. Your site should describe the same work your licence card does, and customers can confirm it on the CBS licence register.

Rentals after the 2024 reforms. CBS's rental reforms page lists 1 July 2024 as the date the largest changes started, including minor modifications, minimum housing standards and a cap of four routine inspections a year. Its page on modifications and minimum standards says a tenant can ask for minor alterations or safety modifications, the landlord's consent must be in writing, and refusal is allowed on set grounds, such as a change that would significantly alter the premises or touch shared areas. SA.GOV.AU adds that unless otherwise agreed, the tenant pays for the alteration and returns the home to its former state at the end of the tenancy. For a handyman, that means two kinds of rental job: the install, and the removal and patch-up when the tenant moves out. A renters page that explains both, and asks whether consent has been given, filters out bookings that would stall at the door.

The standards landlords have to meet. The Housing Safety Authority publishes South Australia's minimum housing standards. External doors need a lock that works with a key from outside and opens from inside without one; openable external windows need a latch; there must be a way to safely screen visitors, with a suitably placed window, lockable screen door, peep-hole, security chain or intercom given as examples; there must be an external light fitting; and in rooming houses, bedroom windows also need a curtain or blind the resident can open and close. The whole-property standards add compliant stairs and handrails, reasonable draught-proofing, smoke alarms that comply with the law and freedom from disturbed or damaged asbestos. SA.GOV.AU's repairs page also says that when a tenant arranges an urgent repair the landlord won't do, a licensed professional must carry it out and report on the cause and the work done, so agents notice a licence number on your site.

Smoke alarms by purchase date. SA.GOV.AU's smoke alarm page sets the rules by when the home was bought or built. A property bought before 1 February 1998 needs at least a replaceable battery alarm. For one bought since then, the owner has six months after the title transfers to fit either a 240-volt mains-powered alarm or a 10-year non-replaceable battery alarm, homes built from 1 January 1995 need mains-powered alarms, new homes and extensions need them interconnected, and fines of up to $750 apply where alarms aren't installed. If you fit sealed battery alarms for new owners and landlords, that's a clear offer to make, with mains-powered work marked as one for a licensed electrician, since SA.GOV.AU says electrical, plumbing and gas fitting businesses need a contractor's licence; our Adelaide electricians page covers that side.

Older houses, where you work and how we work. SafeWork SA's asbestos page notes the material was widely used in building until it was banned in the 1990s and that removing more than 10 m² of non-friable material needs a licence, so a line on what you do when you find old fibro sheeting reassures owners of older homes. For your service area, Adelaide customers think in directions and councils: Playford and Salisbury in the north, Charles Sturt in the west, Onkaparinga in the south, then the Hills and the Fleurieu. We're at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, and Adelaide handymen usually work with us by phone and email around their jobs, though we can meet if you'd prefer. We set out the rules here from the official pages linked and present what you tell us about your business; we don't give licensing or tenancy advice.

Adelaide sites we've built that a handyman's site borrows from

Neither of these is a handyman business, but both are South Australian and both solve problems a handyman's site has. SA Painting Professionals works in a trade that counts as building work here, and Golden Years Aged Care Support looks after older people at home in northern Adelaide, the same households that ring a handyman for rails, locks and smoke alarms.

Home page of the SA Painting Professionals website

SA Painting Professionals

Trades & construction · Adelaide & all of SA

An Adelaide painting company covering the whole state, with 12 service pages, region pages and a suburb and postcode search that tells a visitor straight away whether they're covered. A handyman who drives to the Hills or the Fleurieu can use a smaller version of that search to stop out-of-area enquiries.

Golden Years Aged Care Support

Home & care services · Northern Adelaide

A six-page site for in-home support across northern Adelaide, with large text, tap-to-call on every page and an enquiry form that lets aged care providers refer a client. Those pieces carry straight over to a handyman who takes referrals for older customers.

“…gave us a fixed quote so we knew exactly what we were paying, and turned around the build faster than we thought possible.”

Questions Adelaide handymen ask us

Our jobs are small. Do we still need a licence number on the site?

If the work is building work and you're paid for it, South Australian guidance doesn't give a small-job cut-off, and the licence states which work it covers. If you're licensed, we put your licensed name and number on every page. If you're not, we keep the job list to work outside building work, such as furniture assembly or floating floors, and confirm with you what's on it. CBS is the place to check your own situation.

Can the site explain which rental jobs a landlord can't unreasonably refuse?

Yes, as information with a link. We'd say that since 1 July 2024 minor alterations and reasonable changes for disability or age-related access can't be unreasonably refused, that consent must be in writing, and that the tenant usually restores the home at the end, then link the CBS page. The booking form can ask whether consent has been given.

How should we pitch work to Adelaide property managers?

Match the minimum housing standards: keyed locks on external doors, window latches, peep-holes, security chains or lockable screen doors, and external lights, plus bedroom blinds in rooming houses. A page that lists those, explains how you take work orders and arrange access with the tenant, and says you send photos with the invoice, is easy for an agency to put on its contractor list.

We fit smoke alarms. What should the site say?

Say which type you fit. When a South Australian home changes hands after 1 February 1998, the new owner has six months to fit a mains-powered alarm or a 10-year sealed battery alarm. If you fit the sealed battery type, say so for buyers and landlords, and state that mains-powered and interconnected alarms are installed by a licensed electrician.

We charge more for the Hills and the Fleurieu. Should that go on the site?

Yes. Put your standard area first, by council or direction from the city, then the outer areas with the travel charge or minimum booking that applies. Customers in Stirling or Victor Harbor would rather read it than find out on the invoice, and when the figure changes, text updates on existing pages are covered by the $30 monthly hosting.

Do we have to come in to start?

No. Most Adelaide handymen send us their rates, job list and a few photos of finished work by email, and we talk the rest through by phone. We send a draft link you can check on your phone between jobs, change it as often as you like, and you pay once you approve it. Most sites are live within 5–10 days of us getting your words and photos.
