Website Design for Cafes in Perth

For cafes, espresso bars and coffee carts across Perth, from a CBD arcade to a brunch spot in Leederville, Victoria Park, Scarborough or North Fremantle: a website that gets your hours right on WA's own public holidays, tells people how to reach you on a fare-free Sunday, and describes your outdoor tables and takeaway cups in line with your council permit and the state's plastics rules. Nothing to pay until you've approved the draft.

What a Perth cafe website needs to show

Our main cafes page deals with the jobs every cafe site shares, from a readable menu to an Order ahead button. Western Australia adds a few of its own. The state keeps a holiday calendar unlike anyone else's, never changes its clocks, runs buses, trains and ferries fare-free on Sundays, and has firm rules on takeaway cups and smoking at outdoor tables. Customers notice all of them, so the site should get them right.

  • Holiday hours listed by WA date

In 2026 WA Day fell on Monday 1 June and the King's Birthday is Monday 28 September, long after the June holiday in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Easter Saturday, a public holiday in Sydney, isn't one in WA until 2028, so surcharge days copied from an eastern-states listing can include a day WA doesn't have and miss WA's own two. We set out your holiday hours, and any surcharge days, date by date from the WA Government's list, including Monday 28 December this year, the extra day because Boxing Day lands on a Saturday.

  • An open-now line that runs on Perth time

We can add a line near the top that reads "Open now, until 2 pm" or "Closed, opens 6:30 am Saturday", worked out against Perth time and your holiday dates rather than whatever the visitor's phone assumes. WA stays on Western Standard Time all year, so in summer Perth is three hours behind Sydney. If you link an ordering or table booking tool, check that its own time zone setting says Perth, so pick-up times match the clock behind your counter.

  • Directions that mention the fare-free ride

Transperth makes every Sunday free for SmartRider and contactless card users, on buses, trains and ferries, which is worth a line beside a brunch menu. In the city, the CAT buses cost nothing on any day, and so do train trips inside the zone bounded by City West, Elizabeth Quay and Claisebrook stations when you tap on with a SmartRider or contactless card. Name your nearest station, CAT stop or jetty, the street to head for and the walk in minutes. For a cafe in the Hills or the Swan Valley, give the drive from the city and where to park instead.

  • Outdoor seating described as your permit allows

Tables on a CBD footpath sit under a City of Perth outdoor dining permit, while Leederville and North Perth come under the City of Vincent's own permit. Describe only the area and furniture that permit covers. Because WA law makes outdoor eating areas smoke-free and vape-free, and only some liquor-licensed venues may set aside a smoking zone, most cafes can say so plainly, which matters to parents with prams and anyone with asthma. Mention shade, heaters or a water bowl for dogs only if they're really there.

  • Takeaway cups and lids described exactly

WA banned disposable plastic coffee cups, paper cups with a plastic lining included, and plastic cup lids from 1 March 2024. When the ban began, the government said cups certified to Australian composting standards were excluded, and that lids must be entirely plastic-free. If your site mentions your cups, a reusable-cup discount or a cup swap scheme, we use the wording on your supplier's certificate, such as the standard it meets, rather than a vague "eco-friendly", so the claim holds up when a customer asks.

  • A group enquiry form for weekend rides and drives

If you take groups, such as a cycling club finishing a Saturday ride along the river or a car club heading out to the Swan Valley or Kalamunda, a short form asking for numbers, arrival time, bikes to park and dietary needs gets the details to you before they turn up. It also keeps the phone line clear during the morning rush and gives you a written record of who's coming.

Running a cafe in Perth: councils, smoke-free tables, cups and a changing calendar

A WA cafe registers or notifies its food business with the local government under the Food Act 2008, and the council acts as the enforcement agency. Seating outside is a separate approval, and each council runs its own. In the CBD, any outdoor dining area on public land needs a permit under the City of Perth's Outdoor Dining Local Law 2019; according to the Australian Business Licence and Information Service listing, the permit lasts 12 months, there's no application fee and you need a $20 million public liability policy. The City of Vincent, which takes in Leederville, North Perth, Mount Hawthorn and Highgate, has its own Outdoor Eating Area permit, and the Cities of South Perth, Belmont and Kalamunda each issue outdoor dining permits of their own. Whatever your council, the website should describe the seating the permit actually allows.

Customers do ask about smoking, and in WA the answer for a cafe is short. WA Health's page on smoking restrictions in outdoor eating areas defines an outdoor eating area as a public place, provided commercially for people to eat or drink at tables, that isn't enclosed, and says it must be smoke-free and vape-free. Only liquor-licensed venues that aren't trading under a restaurant licence may set aside a smoking and vaping zone, limited to half the outdoor area and at least 5 metres from a public entrance. A cafe with no liquor licence, or one trading under a restaurant licence, can't have one, so a line such as "our outside tables are smoke-free and vape-free" is simply accurate.

The cup rules come from the state's Plan for Plastics. Stage 2 banned disposable plastic coffee cups and plastic cup lids for hot or cold drinks from 1 March 2024, and it counts plastic linings and coatings as plastic. When the ban arrived, the government said that compostable paperboard cups certified to Australian composting standards were excluded, that lids must be entirely plastic-free, and that it expected hot drink cups to account for more than 154 million of the 700 million single-use items Stage 2 would save each year. The state's current guidance says that exclusion covers certain items only, and it sends exemption questions to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation. For the website, it means the description of your takeaway cups can be checked, so it should be exact.

The public holiday calendar is about to change as well. Laws passed by the WA Parliament in October 2026 make Easter Saturday and a new Show Day public holidays from 2028, move WA Day to November, and move Labour Day and the King's Birthday to better align WA with other states and territories. From 2028 the WA Government's holiday page puts Labour Day on the second Monday in March (the third in a state election year), the King's Birthday on the second Monday in June and WA Day on the second Monday in November. Next year still runs on the current pattern, with WA Day on 7 June 2027 and the King's Birthday on 27 September 2027. A cafe that prints surcharge days on its menu will need those dates changed for 2028, which is a text edit we make when you email us.

We're an Adelaide team and build for Perth businesses by phone and email. Between October and April a 6 am opening in Perth is 8:30 am here, so we're usually at our desks by the time your morning rush eases. We haven't built a site for a WA business or for a cafe yet; our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD, and the work below comes from two of those states. If you trade in Fremantle, our Fremantle page covers the port city and its bridge works in more detail.

Work we'd point a Perth cafe to

We haven't built a cafe site, or any site for a WA business, so here are two single-page builds from South Australia and New South Wales. Between them they show what a small cafe home page has to carry: photos, a map, gift vouchers, an enquiry form that sorts requests by type, and a phone number that dials with one tap.

Home page of the Cape Fishing Charters website

Cape Fishing Charters

Community, creative & tourism · Cape Jervis

Full-day fishing charters from Cape Jervis in South Australia, seven days a week. The one page holds a catch photo gallery, an FAQ, customer reviews, an embedded map, a booking request form, gift voucher requests and tap-to-call. Put your counter and your plates where the catch photos are, and your menu notes where the charter FAQ is, and the layout is close to what a cafe needs, gift vouchers and all.

Home page of the Fiona Dixon Voiceover Artist website

Fiona Dixon Voiceover Artist

Community, creative & tourism · NSW

A voiceover artist in NSW. Her single page has four playable demo reels, about and studio sections, a contact form where the enquirer picks a project type, and tap-to-call. On a cafe site the same kind of form can ask whether someone wants catering, a group table or a regular office coffee order, so each enquiry reaches you already sorted.

“…Salem walked us through everything, gave us a fixed quote so we knew exactly what we were paying, and turned around the build faster than we thought possible.”

Questions Perth cafe owners ask us

We add a public holiday surcharge. Which dates should the website list?

The WA ones, written out. For the rest of 2026 that's Christmas Day, Boxing Day on Saturday 26 December and Monday 28 December. In 2027 it includes Easter Sunday, WA Day on 7 June and the King's Birthday on 27 September, and from 2028 Easter Saturday and Show Day join the list, the King's Birthday moves to June and WA Day to November. Our main cafes page explains how the ACCC expects a surcharge to be shown. Changing the dates is a text edit covered by the $30 monthly hosting.

We've switched to certified compostable cups. Can the website say so?

Yes, and it's worth being precise. Say what the cups are and what they're certified to, as your supplier's paperwork states it, and that the lids are plastic-free if that's what you use. Avoid broad words like "sustainable" or "zero waste" unless you can back them up. If you offer a discount for bringing your own cup, give the amount and say whether it applies to every size.

Can the site show whether we're open right now?

Yes. We build a small open-now line into the page that checks the current time in Perth against your normal hours and your holiday dates, then shows "Open until 2 pm" or "Opens 7 am Monday". When your hours change, you email us the new ones and we update both the line and the hours table, so they can't disagree with each other.

We're in North Fremantle. What should change once Walyalup Bridge opens?

Main Roads closed the old Fremantle Traffic Bridge to all traffic on 1 February 2026 and set Sunday 1 November 2026 for the opening of its replacement, Walyalup Bridge, with a community event that morning and traffic allowed on later that night. The shared paths are up to 4 metres wide on each side. Once it's open, any line that sends drivers around via Stirling Highway, or tells walkers and cyclists to detour because the bridge path is shut, can go. Tell us the new route you'd give a customer and we'll update the directions.

You're in Adelaide and have no Perth clients. How would this work?

By phone and email, the way we work with every client outside Adelaide. We're an Adelaide (South Australia) web design team working with businesses Australia-wide, and our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. You send your menu, hours and photos of the place; we arrange them into a draft you can check on your phone between orders, you ask for as many changes as you like, and you pay once you approve it. We reply within 24 hours.
