Website Design for Restaurants in Perth

For restaurants, bistros and wine bars across Perth, from James Street in Northbridge and Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley to Albany Highway in Victoria Park and the Swan Valley: a site with your menu as text, a booking button on every page, a functions page that answers a planner's questions, and drinks, specials and BYO described in terms your WA restaurant licence allows.

What a Perth restaurant website has to get right

Our main restaurants page covers what every venue shares: menus as text, a booking button, allergen prompts and gift vouchers. What changes in Perth is the liquor law behind your drinks list. A WA restaurant licence is built around meals, so the way your site talks about the bar, the specials, BYO, takeaway and stand-up functions has to match what the licence and any permits really cover.

  • Drinks with dinner, or on their own

Under a WA restaurant licence, a drink is sold to a customer who is eating a meal, seated at a table or a fixed structure used as one, with cutlery provided. Pouring a drink with no food needs an extended trading permit for liquor without a meal, and even then guests drink seated. So the site invites people in for a glass at the bar only if you hold that permit, and it describes seats and tables rather than a standing crowd.

  • Hours that follow the licence

With a meal, a restaurant licence allows service at any hour, with one gap: on ANZAC Day there's none from 3am until 10am. Drinks poured without a meal keep the permit's hours, which the Director of Liquor Licensing can narrow: from 6am (10am on Sundays, Good Friday, Christmas Day and ANZAC Day) until midnight, and until 2am on New Year's Day. If your kitchen does a late supper, the hours table can list meal service and drinks-only service separately, so nobody arrives at half past twelve expecting a nightcap on its own.

  • Specials worded with the WA promotion policy in mind

The Director of Liquor Licensing's policy on responsible promotion applies to every licensee. Among the promotions it calls likely to be unacceptable are happy hours longer than 60 minutes, held more than twice a day or running after 7pm, and on-premises discounts of more than half the retail price. A specials page advertising a 5 to 8pm happy hour would match two of those examples. We publish the offer you settle on; the policy is the place to test it first.

  • A functions page that says seated or standing

Planners want capacities, set menus, minimum spends and deposit terms, and those go on the page as they would anywhere. The WA wrinkle is the cocktail party with canapés. The licence ties drinks to a seated meal, and the regulator's one-off function permit for restaurants is how drinks without a meal can be allowed at a private function, such as a birthday, an anniversary or a wedding reception. Functions open to the public usually aren't approved, generally no more than 24 permits of this kind are issued in 12 months, and each application goes in at least 14 days ahead. So canapé packages read as private events, and the enquiry form asks for the date early.

  • BYO and the bottle that goes home

A licensed restaurant can let diners bring their own drinks to have with the meal, and whatever is left leaves with them, as can the rest of an opened bottle of wine bought with dinner. Sealed takeaway is another matter: the regulator's table of licence types gives take-away sales to hotels, taverns, liquor stores and producers, among others, while a restaurant licence covers liquor on the premises. Your BYO line gives the corkage and any limits, and the takeaway menu leaves sealed bottles off unless the department has confirmed you can sell them.

  • Outdoor tables that are smoke-free by law

WA Health says outdoor eating areas must be smoke-free and vape-free, and a venue trading on a restaurant licence can't set aside an outdoor smoking zone the way some other licensed venues can. Shisha can't be used in outdoor eating areas at restaurants or cafés either, which anyone planning an evening around it will want to know before booking. The courtyard description says so plainly, alongside shade, heaters and whether those tables can be reserved.

  • Reviews and awards, named exactly

The West Australian Good Food Guide publishes a Top 100 each year and awards such as Restaurant of the Year, judged by independent reviewers who visit anonymously, with the guide paying its own way. If you appear in it, or in any other guide, the site names the guide, the year and the award word for word, quotes one short line and links to the full review rather than copying it onto your page.

Running a restaurant in Perth: WA liquor rules, councils, summer festivals and the Swan Valley

Liquor licensing in Western Australia sits with Racing, Gaming and Liquor, part of the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety, under the Liquor Control Act 1988. None of our other restaurant pages covers WA, so here is the short version as it affects a website. A restaurant licence suits a business that is predominantly serving meals, and the department's table of licence types (opens in a new tab) shows it trading at any time but ancillary to a meal only. The licensed restaurants factsheet (opens in a new tab) sets out the seated-with-cutlery rule, BYO with the licensee's consent and taking an opened bottle home. The extended trading permit policies (opens in a new tab) cover drinks without a meal and one-off private functions, and specials come under the separate responsible promotion policy (opens in a new tab). Questions about your licence belong with the department's licensing section; our part is making sure the site says only what your licence and permits allow.

Day-to-day approvals come from local government, and Perth's dining strips are divided between councils. Northbridge, the city's main nightlife district around James and Lake streets, is in the City of Perth. Mount Lawley falls across the Cities of Vincent, Stirling and Bayswater, and the City of Vincent (opens in a new tab) describes the Beaufort Street town centre as largely in Vincent, with the part north of Walcott Street in the City of Stirling. The Town of Victoria Park (opens in a new tab) describes Victoria Park as a mix of cafes, restaurants, bars, retail, car yards and historic hotels, with Albany Highway as its retail and hospitality strip, and Leederville is in the City of Vincent. Your council registers the food business (opens in a new tab) under the Food Act 2008 and issues any permit for tables on the footpath; our Perth cafes page goes through how the City of Perth, Vincent and other councils handle outdoor dining. On the website, that means naming the strip and suburb people search by, and describing only the outdoor area your permit covers.

Late summer is festival season in Perth. Fringe World (opens in a new tab) runs from 20 January to 14 February 2027 and Perth Festival (opens in a new tab) from 5 to 28 February 2027, so for ten days the two overlap. If you add an early sitting or a set menu on show nights, the dates, times and booking link sit on the home page for those weeks and go into your Google Business Profile as special hours. WA's public holidays differ from the eastern states and change again from 2028 (opens in a new tab); the Perth cafes page lists them, and the same dates drive any surcharge line on your menu.

Out of the city, Tourism Western Australia (opens in a new tab) describes the Swan Valley as 30 minutes from Perth, with a 32-kilometre loop drive linking around 150 attractions. It presents the valley as a self-drive day out, reached via the historic town of Guildford, so a restaurant's site out there leads with lunch hours, a group booking form that asks for numbers and arrival time, and road directions via Guildford. A winery restaurant trading on a producer's licence rather than a restaurant licence words its drinks to suit that licence, which the department's table treats differently, take-away sales included.

We're an Adelaide team, at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, and work with Perth businesses by phone and email. Perth sits an hour and a half behind Adelaide in winter and two and a half hours behind once our clocks go forward in October, so we suggest call times that fit around your service rather than ours. We haven't built a restaurant site or a site for a WA business yet; our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. You send the menus, photos of the room, your booking link and a note of what your licence and permits cover; we send a draft to check on your phone, and you pay once you approve it.

Work we'd point a Perth restaurant to

We haven't built a restaurant site, or any site for a WA business. These two, from South Australia and Queensland, show pieces a restaurant site borrows: a form that runs in steps, a page explaining a regulated subject, a timetable and a photo gallery visitors can filter.

Home page of the Club One (SA) website

Club One (SA)

Community, creative & tourism · South Australia

A South Australian not-for-profit holding the state's only Special Club Licence, returning gaming machine revenue to community clubs and groups. Its seven pages include a four-part online grant application and a page explaining gaming machine entitlements. A functions enquiry can run in steps the same way, date and numbers first, then menu and dietary needs, and a page setting out your drinks and BYO policy is the same kind of explainer.

Home page of the Queensland Dance & Performing Arts website

Queensland Dance & Performing Arts

Community, creative & tourism · Thorneside, Brisbane's Bayside

A dance school on Brisbane's Bayside, with a page for each program, a weekly class timetable, a filterable photo gallery and an online enrolment form across 12 pages. On a restaurant site the timetable becomes sittings and kitchen hours, and the gallery filters between the dining room, the private room, the courtyard and the plates.

“My website is exactly how I wanted. I highly recommend Salem for any business wanting a professional website without the bull.”

Johannah Whilding, Google review

Questions Perth restaurant owners ask us

We don't hold the liquor-without-a-meal permit. How should the site describe our drinks?

As part of dining. The wine list sits beside the food menu, the main button says Book a table, and nothing invites people in for drinks only. The licensed restaurants factsheet (opens in a new tab) lists the kind of evidence that shows a drink went with a meal: a substantial meal, served at a dining table, to the person who bought the drink, who came in to eat. So whether a particular bar snack counts is a question for the department rather than for us. If you get the permit later, email us and we'll change the wording.

What sort of happy hour can we put on the website?

That's your call, made against the WA promotion policy (opens in a new tab). It lists happy hours over 60 minutes, more than twice a day or after 7pm as likely to be unacceptable, along with on-premises discounts of more than half the retail price, and the Director can impose licence conditions that limit promotions. Those are examples rather than a complete list, and the policy also looks at whether a promotion encourages rapid or excessive drinking, so the department is the place to check a particular offer. We publish the times and prices exactly as you give them.

Can customers order a bottle of wine with takeaway through our website?

A restaurant licence covers liquor on the premises with a meal, and the department's table of licence types gives take-away sales to other licences, such as hotels, taverns and liquor stores. What the factsheet does allow is a diner taking home the rest of an opened bottle bought with their meal. So a takeaway menu on a restaurant-licensed site leaves bottles off unless the department confirms you can sell them. We can link the ordering platform you already use, or build ordering and payment into your site, quoted for the job.

We add an early sitting during Fringe World and Perth Festival. How do we keep the site right?

Email us the dates, sitting times and set menu, and we'll put them on the home page and booking page for those weeks and take them down afterwards. Text changes on existing pages are covered by the $30 monthly hosting, and we reply within 24 hours. In 2027 that means 20 January to 14 February for Fringe World and 5 to 28 February for Perth Festival. Enter the same times as special hours in your Google Business Profile so Maps and the site match.

Our restaurant is on Beaufort Street. Whose rules apply to our footpath tables?

The council that manages the footpath outside your door. The Beaufort Street town centre is largely in the City of Vincent, but the part north of Walcott Street is in the City of Stirling, so venues either side of Walcott Street can answer to different councils. Check your permit for the area and furniture it covers, and the website describes those tables and no more. Our Perth cafes page covers how the City of Perth and the City of Vincent run outdoor dining.

How does an Adelaide team build a Perth restaurant's website?

By phone and email, as with every client outside Adelaide. We're an Adelaide (South Australia) web design team working with businesses Australia-wide, with current clients in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD and none yet in WA. After a call about your menus, functions and booking system, you email the words and photos and we send a draft link. Most sites are live within 5–10 days of us getting your words and photos; bigger sites (up to 8 pages) take 2–3 weeks.

Ready to start your Perth restaurant website?

Send us your menus, your booking link, a few photos of the room and a note of what your licence and any permits cover. We'll quote and build the draft, and you pay nothing until you approve it.

We reply within 24 hours. Prefer email? info@webcraftstudio.com.au
