Website Design for Canberra and ACT Businesses

Websites for consultancies, clinics, trades, cafes and shops from Gungahlin to Tuggeranong, and over the border in Queanbeyan. Our Adelaide team designs and codes each one by hand and works with you by phone and email, at the same published prices we charge everywhere else.

What Canberra businesses ask us to build

A Canberra enquiry might come from a two-person policy consultancy in Barton, a physio in Belconnen, a Fyshwick panel shop or a cafe near the lake that fills up during Floriade. These are the things they usually ask for, with a price wherever there's a fixed one.

  • A small business site with a known price

One page costs $399. Up to three pages is $899 and up to eight pages is $1,499. We aren't registered for GST, so that's the whole price, and you pay only after approving the draft. A sole trader in Weston Creek and a firm in the City work from the same list. Nothing is billed by the hour, and an ACT postcode doesn't cost more than an Adelaide one.

  • Custom design rather than a theme

Every site is designed around the business and coded by hand in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, not assembled in Wix, Squarespace or a WordPress theme. Because that's how we make all of them, custom design is part of the price rather than an upgrade. It also means pages that load quickly on a phone and no plugins sitting there waiting for security patches.

  • Redesigns at the same three prices

If your site was built years ago by someone who has since moved on, or sits on a builder plan nobody remembers the login for, we rebuild it at new-site prices: $399 for one page, $899 for three or $1,499 for eight. Existing words and photos come across where they still fit, old page addresses are redirected, and the current site keeps running until you approve the new one.

  • A web developer as well as a designer

The people who design your site also write the code behind it: multi-step enquiry forms, file uploads for briefs or plans, downloadable documents, staff profiles, galleries, service-area pages and tap-to-call. You deal with us directly, and changes after launch come back to the same team. Nobody can honestly promise a Google ranking and we don't; we also don't sell SEO retainers or ads.

  • A capability page for consultancies and contractors

If you sell to agencies, Defence or larger firms, the person assessing you may well read your site before they pick up the phone. We can give your services, the kinds of engagement you take on, your team's qualifications and your ABN a clear place each, with a PDF capability statement to download. What you say about clearances or panel membership is yours to confirm.

  • An online store without a platform subscription

$799 covers up to 25 products, one payment gateway and basic order management. $1,999 adds unlimited products, multiple payment options, customer accounts and advanced shipping. A maker who sells at weekend markets, a small food or drink producer selling direct or a specialty shop posting interstate pays our $30 monthly hosting instead of a platform subscription.

  • Online booking and payments

For clinics, salons, tutors, personal trainers and tour operators, we can build booking and payment into the site, quoted per job once we know how your appointments, sessions and cancellations work. If you already take bookings through HotDoc, Cliniko, Fresha, Calendly or OpenTable, we can link that system from every page instead.

Canberra's economy and what it asks of a website

Canberra is the national capital, and the ABS put the ACT's population at about 489,700 at 31 March 2026, up 1.3% on a year earlier. Government work sits at the centre of the economy: in June 2025 the ABS counted 155,400 public sector employee jobs in the ACT, 117,100 of them Commonwealth and 38,200 with the ACT Government. Defence is part of that. The Australian Defence Force Academy at Campbell, where UNSW Canberra teaches, sits beside the Royal Military College at Duntroon and the Campbell Park Defence offices, and HMAS Harman provides administrative support for Defence people across the ACT and southern NSW. If you run one of the consultancies or contractors that work for those agencies, your website is part of how a buyer sizes you up before a briefing.

The ACT Government describes Canberra as an established centre for knowledge-based industries such as space, defence, quantum, cyber security and advanced technologies, and it set up the Canberra Cyber Hub in 2020 to connect and strengthen the city's cyber sector. The Australian National University is in Acton and the University of Canberra in Bruce. Residents are highly qualified: in May 2025, 46% of ACT residents aged 15 to 74 held a bachelor degree or higher, the highest share of any state or territory and well above the national 34%. Customers like that tend to read the detail. For a psychologist, an accountant or an engineering consultancy, qualifications, process and fees set out plainly do more work than a slogan.

The ACT has no local councils, because the Legislative Assembly carries both state and local government responsibilities, so there's no council area for customers to search by. People use suburbs, town centres and districts instead. The ACT's planning system splits the city into nine districts: Belconnen, East Canberra, Gungahlin, Inner North and City, Inner South, Molonglo Valley, Tuggeranong, Weston Creek and Woden. A mobile groomer or cleaner who sticks to the north side should say so rather than claim all of Canberra. Over the NSW border, the Queanbeyan-Palerang council area begins about 10 km east of the Canberra CBD and had an estimated 67,633 residents in 2025. Its main towns are Queanbeyan and Bungendore, with Braidwood and Captains Flat further out, and its housing is growing particularly in the west, closest to Canberra. Wider still, the Canberra Region Joint Organisation brings together NSW councils from Yass Valley and Goulburn Mulwaree to Eurobodalla, Bega Valley and Snowy Monaro, with the ACT Government as an associate member of its board. If you serve customers on both sides of the border, name the NSW towns on your site as well.

Visitors are the other part of the picture. To qualify for the Australian Government's PACER rebate, which is paid per student and set by the school's distance from the Canberra GPO, school groups must visit at least three of four institutions, among them Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial; more than 100,000 students visit Parliament House each year on organised school visits. Floriade fills Commonwealth Park across September and October and is free to enter, and the calendar also carries Summernats at Exhibition Park in January, the National Multicultural Festival in February and Enlighten from late February into March. The ACT Government says the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre alone sees about 220,000 visitors a year. Then there are the people who arrive to stay: public servants starting new jobs, Defence families on a posting, students enrolling at ANU or UC. Many have no local to ask yet, so a cafe, a dentist, a mechanic or a childcare centre often gets picked from a search on a phone. Hours, location and parking, prices or how to get a quote, and a way to book belong near the top of the page.

We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St and work with ACT businesses by phone and email. We don't have anyone based in Canberra, and our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. Trades will find ACT licence details covered on our pages for Canberra tradies, builders, plumbers and electricians; the plumbing and electrical pages also cover the end of new gas network connections.

Client sites that show what a Canberra site needs

None of our clients is in the ACT. Tomi's Bobcat works in the Bega Valley, one of the NSW council areas in the Canberra Region Joint Organisation; the other two are a Sydney practice and an Adelaide engineering consultancy, picked because their sites show the explanation, booking and document-upload features that consultancies and practices tend to need.

Home page of the Resolve Forward website

Resolve Forward

Professional services · Sydney

A Sydney family law dispute resolution practice. Six service pages and FAQs explain mediation, parenting coordination and arbitration, priced packages lead straight to online booking, and a five-step intake form gathers the background before a first session. A Canberra psychologist, lawyer or coach needs a similar mix of explanation and booking.

Home page of the Simple Engineers website

Simple Engineers

Professional services · Adelaide

Structural engineers in Adelaide. The site has four service pages, 16 articles and a quote form that shows fee ranges and accepts file uploads, so a homeowner or builder can send plans with the first enquiry. It's the pattern for any consultancy whose work starts with a brief or a set of documents.

Home page of the Tomi's Bobcat and Excavation website

Tomi's Bobcat and Excavation

Trades & construction · South Pambula & Bega Valley

Bobcat and excavator work, structural landscaping and licensed pool building around South Pambula and the Bega Valley. One page carries three service sections, a 42-photo gallery that swipes on a phone, a testimonial carousel and a contact form, with tap-to-call on mobile.

Questions from Canberra businesses

Do you have anyone in Canberra?

No. WebCraft Studio is an Adelaide web design team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, and we work with ACT businesses by phone and email. You send your words, photos and the areas you serve, we send a draft link to open on your phone or computer, and you ask for changes until it's right. Adelaide is half an hour behind Canberra. We reply within 24 hours.

What does an affordable small business website cost in Canberra?

$399 for one page, $899 for up to three pages and $1,499 for up to eight. No GST is added, because we aren't registered for it, and Canberra pays the same as anywhere else. There's no deposit: you pay once you approve the draft, and if you don't go ahead you owe nothing. Hosting is $30 a month after launch, with no contract.

Can you rebuild our existing site instead of starting from scratch?

Yes, at the same prices as a new site. Send us the address and tell us what still works. We reuse the words and photos you want to keep, build the new version as a draft while the old one stays up, and only point your domain at it once you've approved it. Our article on whether to redesign or rebuild helps if you're weighing it up.

Can clients book and pay through our website?

Yes. We build online booking and payment systems into sites and quote that work per job, once we understand your services, session lengths and cancellation rules. If you already use HotDoc, Cliniko, Fresha or Calendly, we can link it instead. Resolve Forward, a Sydney practice, has priced packages that lead straight to its booking page.

Do you build online stores for Canberra businesses?

Yes. A store is $799 for up to 25 products with one payment gateway and basic order management, or $1,999 for unlimited products, multiple payment options, customer accounts and advanced shipping. There's more on what each includes on our ecommerce website design page.

We're a small consultancy that works for government. What should our site include?

Usually a plain description of each service, the kinds of work you take on, short profiles of the people doing it with their qualifications, your ABN and a capability statement buyers can download. The words come from you, since we arrange content rather than write it, and you confirm anything about panels, clearances or certifications. We lay it out so an assessor can find each piece quickly.
