In Kings Park and Botanic Garden, the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority says a ceremony booked at one of its venues includes the photography permit (opens in a new tab), while photographs only, with no ceremony in the park, need a separate wedding photography permit. Its filming and photography page (opens in a new tab) charges commercial shoots at a higher hourly rate than weddings, adds a non-refundable booking fee, and asks for proof of the approved booking to be carried on the day. Wedding photography isn't allowed on the Lotterywest Federation Walkway, the glass bridge, and the State War Memorial precinct needs written permission from RSLWA. Bold Park, run by the same authority, has its own commercial filming and photography application pack.
Beyond Kings Park, approval depends on who manages the land. On national parks and other land under the CALM Act, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions requires a licence or lawful authority for stills or filming taken for commercial purposes (opens in a new tab), applied for through its online licensing system at least four weeks ahead, with at least $10 million of public liability cover. Its page doesn't single out weddings, so photographers who shoot in places such as Yanchep or the Margaret River area's national park land should check with the department. In Fremantle, the City says permission isn't needed for still photography unless it's for commercial purposes (opens in a new tab), and points port-area requests to Fremantle Ports.
In the city centre, DevelopmentWA manages Elizabeth Quay and Yagan Square. Its media capture application (opens in a new tab) applies to shoots that set up equipment or affect public access; hand-held shoots with fewer than five people, no tripods or lighting rigs, no drone and nothing blocking pedestrian or road access are exempt, while any drone use needs an application with the operator's licence and a safety analysis. For Rottnest, the ferry operators point couples to the Rottnest Island Authority for venue approvals (opens in a new tab), so link to the Authority rather than repeating its terms.
Drones need the same care here. Kings Park allows them only with a licensed operator, in approved spots, with approval sought at the time of booking; recreational flying isn't allowed. CASA also lists flying within 5.5 km of a controlled aerodrome among the operations that need a flight authorisation (opens in a new tab). If aerials are in your packages, say which accreditation you hold and that each flight depends on the location. Rather than copying fees or conditions that change, we'd link each agency's page from your locations section and keep your own wording to what you do: which spots you suggest, who books the permit and whether it's included.
We're a web design team in Adelaide, working with Perth businesses by phone and email; none of our current clients are in WA. Perth is 1.5 hours behind Adelaide, or 2.5 hours while South Australia is on daylight saving, so we keep calls to times that suit you and send drafts as a link you can check between shoots.
