Website Design for Painters in Melbourne

Websites for Melbourne house painters and commercial painting contractors. Victoria has no licence number for painting-only work, so your site earns trust another way: captioned before-and-after pairs, your insurer and trade qualification in plain view, and a quote form that takes photos of the walls.

What a Melbourne painter's website needs to show

With no painting licence for a customer to look up, a Victorian homeowner judges you on what they can see before they ring: finished jobs in houses like theirs, how you handle old surfaces, and whether you can take on an apartment block as well as a single house.

  • Trust signals where a licence number would go

Your ABN, your public liability insurer and, if you hold it, the Certificate III in Painting and Decorating (CPC30620) sit in the footer of every page. If you are also a registered building practitioner because you take on jobs that combine painting with plastering or carpentry, your registered name and number go beside them.

  • Period houses and heritage repaints

If you work on older houses, show it: a timber verandah stripped back and repainted, a front with the trim picked out in a second colour, fretwork or leadlight framing done by hand. Add a line saying you can work from a colour schedule the owner has had approved by council.

  • Your method with old paint

Owners of pre-1970 houses with young children ask about lead before they ask about price. A few lines in your own words on how you test, contain dust and clean up show you have a method, and we link them to the state's health advice rather than restating it.

  • A page for owners corporations and property managers

Stairwells, corridors, car park lines, fences and balcony balustrades are booked by owners corporation managers, not residents. A commercial page covering after-hours or staged work, your insurance certificates and the blocks you've done (where the managers agree to be named) talks to them directly.

  • Before-and-after pairs captioned by suburb

Caption each pair with the scope and the suburb, such as Exterior repaint and weatherboard repairs, Coburg, or Two-bedroom apartment, Southbank. A visitor from the same side of the city can find a job like theirs without scrolling through every photo.

  • Quote requests that cover access

Interior or exterior, house, townhouse or apartment, number of rooms or storeys, lift and parking access for apartments, preferred timing and a photo upload. In a city this spread out, knowing the suburb and the access before you call back saves a wasted drive across town.

Painting in Melbourne: registration, heritage controls and old paint

No painting licence, with one catch. Victoria doesn't license painters the way NSW and Queensland do. Consumer Affairs Victoria says domestic builders must register with the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) to take on a contract worth more than ten thousand dollars, but a job involving only painting is exempt. The exemption no longer holds once a job combines skills, and its own example is plastering and painting. If your site offers plaster patching, weatherboard replacement or other carpentry alongside repaints, check the BPC's rules before advertising them together. If you are registered, the Building Act requires your registered name and number on advertising for domestic building work; our page for Melbourne builders explains that rule.

Heritage Overlays. Melbourne councils such as Glen Eira and Boroondara apply Heritage Overlays to individual places and to whole precincts. Under clause 43.01 of each planning scheme, a planning permit is needed to paint an unpainted surface such as face brick, to paint a building whose overlay schedule says external paint controls apply, and to paint a building where the painting amounts to an advertisement. Glen Eira's own guidance says external paint controls apply only in limited instances, and that maintenance which doesn't change a building's appearance needs no permit. Owners can check their address on VicPlan, the state's planning map. Your site should send them there or to their council rather than answer the permit question itself.

Old paint. The Victorian Government's Better Health Channel says lead paint was used in many Australian homes before 1970, that pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under five should stay out of work areas during renovation, and that owners should consider a professional contractor for homes likely to contain lead paint. That last point is a reason for a painter who does this work properly to say so on the website.

Apartments and units. Consumer Affairs Victoria says the Owners Corporations Act 2006 requires an owners corporation to manage, administer, repair and maintain the common property, and that tier one and tier two owners corporations must keep a maintenance plan covering major capital items for the next 10 years. The managers who run those plans are a different audience from homeowners, which is why we suggest commercial work gets its own page.

How we work with Melbourne painters. We're an Adelaide team on Hutt St and work with Victorian businesses by phone and email; our Melbourne client so far is a coaching practice for doctors, not a trade. You send your photos, the suburbs you cover and your own words about how you work. We arrange them into the pages and send a draft link you can open on site between jobs.

Painting and Melbourne sites we've built

Our painting client is SA Painting Professionals in Adelaide, and its Commercial & Strata Painting page is the closest thing we've built to an owners corporation page for Melbourne. We don't have a Melbourne painter yet. Our Melbourne client is Dr Tabara Dione's coaching practice for doctors, built entirely by phone and email.

Questions Melbourne painters ask us

Do Victorian painters need a licence number on their website?

Not for painting alone: Consumer Affairs Victoria lists painting among the single-trade jobs that don't need BPC registration. Registration comes in when a job worth more than ten thousand dollars combines skills, such as plastering and painting. If you are registered, your registered name and number go in the footer because the Building Act requires them on advertising for domestic building work. If you aren't, the footer carries your ABN, insurer and trade qualification instead.

Can our site mention heritage colour schemes without giving planning advice?

Yes. Show the heritage jobs you've done, say you can work from a colour schedule the council has approved, and link to VicPlan so owners can check their own address. Whether a permit is needed depends on the overlay schedule for that property, so the page points people to their council instead of answering for them.

Should a painter's website talk about lead paint?

If you paint houses built before 1970, a short paragraph helps. Say how you test, how you contain dust and how you clean up, in your own words, and link to the Better Health Channel's page on lead exposure. Owners with small children are the ones who read it closely.

How do we reach owners corporation managers?

Give them their own page: the common-area work you do, whether you work after hours or in stages around residents, your insurance details and a few blocks you've painted, named only with permission. A form asking for the number of lots and levels and the areas to be painted gives you enough to book an inspection.

You're in Adelaide. How does a Melbourne painter work with you?

By phone and email. We're an Adelaide team working with businesses Australia-wide, and our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. You send photos and details, we build the draft, you ask for as many changes as you like, and you pay once you approve it. We reply within 24 hours.

Does a painting website cost more in Melbourne?

No. The prices are the same in every city: $399 for one page, $899 for up to 3 pages and $1,499 for up to 8 pages, with no GST added. Hosting is $30 a month after launch and covers unlimited text and image changes on your existing pages, so swapping in photos from recent jobs doesn't cost extra.
