The licence rules are the state's. Painting work worth more than five thousand dollars in labour and materials, GST included, needs a contractor licence; stand-alone interior painting contracts don't; and building trade advertising, a website included, must carry the licence details. Our Sydney painters page sets those out. On a Coffs site we put your licence name, number and category in the footer of every page.
The weather numbers are worth knowing. The Bureau of Meteorology's Coffs Harbour MO station, which recorded from 1943 until 2015, averaged 1,699 mm of rain a year. February and March were the wettest months, with about 225 mm and 235 mm and close to 10 and 11 rain days each; July, August and September averaged four or five rain days, and September only about 60 mm. Morning humidity at 9am averaged 72 to 75 percent from January to March and dropped to 56 percent in September, the month with the most sunshine. A painter who books big exteriors around that pattern, and says so on the website, sets honest expectations before the first call.
Heritage is a smaller matter here than in Newcastle or Maitland, but it's real. Council's Local Heritage Grant Funding guidelines say the City of Coffs Harbour has 99 listed heritage items and two heritage conservation areas, at Coramba and Sawtell. The council's Local Heritage Fund, set up more than 20 years ago with help from the NSW Heritage Branch, helps owners of heritage items, and of properties in those two areas, with conservation and maintenance, and its guidelines list external painting alongside fences, verandahs, roof cladding, windows and decorative detail as work that may be eligible. Owners must at least match the grant. Routine maintenance and new buildings aren't funded, and priority goes to items in well-maintained heritage streetscapes, items the public can see, and items that are part of a heritage group or precinct. The guidelines also ask applicants to get at least two quotes for each task and to take before and after photos.
The fund's timing matters to a painter. Applications close on the last Friday in September, and funded work has to be finished by the end of April, which puts the job squarely across the wettest months of the year. If you quote for heritage owners applying to the fund, a sentence saying you'll provide a written quote for their application, and plan the exterior to finish by April, is useful to them. We'd link to council's fund page for current dates and amounts rather than repeat them, and we don't give planning advice. Bush fire rebuilding in the Orara Valley and council's flood and coastal planning are covered on our Coffs Harbour builders page.
We're an Adelaide team, and we'd build a Coffs Coast painter's site by phone and email. We haven't built for a Coffs Harbour business yet; our NSW clients include a cleaning business in Lake Macquarie and an excavation business in the Bega Valley. You send your licence details, photos and the localities you cover, we send a draft link to check on your phone, and you pay once you approve it.
