The City of Coffs Harbour stretches from Bundagen in the south to Red Rock in the north and inland beyond Nana Glen and Ulong, with 78.8 km of coastline, on Gumbaynggirr Country. On a website it helps to name the beaches and villages, not just the council: Corindi Beach, Woolgoolga, Emerald Beach, Sapphire Beach and Korora up the coast, the city and the Jetty in the middle, Sawtell, Toormina, Boambee East and Bonville to the south, and Coramba, Lowanna and Nana Glen in the hills. Bellingen Shire and the Nambucca Valley are separate councils further south. The city sits roughly 530 km north of Sydney and 390 km south of Brisbane.
Council's economic profile puts the area at 82,109 residents, 6,827 local businesses and 39,570 local jobs in 2025. Health care and social assistance is far ahead as the biggest employer, with 9,216 jobs in 2024/25, or 23.3% of local work against 15.7% across NSW. Construction, education and training, and retail follow, each with roughly a tenth of local jobs. The age profile matters as well: at the 2021 Census, 30.1% of residents were 60 or older, and the 70 to 84 age group grew by 2,152 people in five years. For clinics, care providers, tradies and shops alike, a good share of customers are older, so text that's easy to read and a phone number they can tap matter as much as the enquiry form.
Tourism is the other pillar. Accommodation and food services provide 8.1% of local jobs, against 6.4% statewide, and Tourism Research Australia figures on council's profile show about 2.5 million domestic visitor nights and around 763,000 day trips in 2025/26. Visitors come for the Big Banana, one of Australia's first Big Things, which turned 50 in 2014; the heritage-listed timber Jetty; the breakwater walk to Muttonbird Island, where whales are often seen between May and November; and the Solitary Islands Marine Park, where tropical and temperate sea life meet. The airport has regular flights to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. A visitor who has never heard of you is choosing between three websites on a phone, often weeks before arriving, so prices, availability and a way to book matter more than a long story.
Away from the beaches, agriculture provides 5.4% of local jobs, three times the state share. Hinterland and coastal farms grow bananas, blueberries, macadamias, cucumbers and tomatoes. Woolgoolga was an early centre of Sikh migration to Australia; it has two gurdwaras and celebrates its Punjabi heritage each year at Curryfest. The Coffs Harbour Education Campus is shared by Southern Cross University, TAFE and the Coffs Harbour Senior College, and UNSW runs a rural medical campus in the city. The 14 km Pacific Highway bypass is also close: the NSW Government's October 2026 update says crews are paving to get it open before the end of the year, and businesses along the current highway that have relied on passing traffic may find more of their customers search for them first.
We're an Adelaide team and work with Coffs Coast businesses by phone and email. We haven't built a site for a Coffs Harbour business yet; our NSW clients include businesses in Sydney, Lake Macquarie and the Bega Valley, and the work below was chosen for features that fit here. Tradespeople can read about council's plumbing inspections, the storms and coastal corrosion on our page for Coffs Harbour tradies.
