Landscapers in Mackay are licensed like any in Queensland: structural landscaping valued over $3,300 needs a QBCC licence, and the QBCC counts your website as advertising, so the licensed name and number go on it. Our Brisbane landscapers page covers the two licence classes. This section is about what's particular to the Mackay region.
Water. Mackay Regional Council supplies drinking water to more than 100,000 customers and limits outdoor watering to before 10am and after 4pm on designated days, by odd or even house number, with watering banned on Mondays; watering cans and buckets can be used outside those hours. Council can apply higher restriction levels under its Water Restrictions Policy if it needs to, and it offers a free online service, myh2o, for owners to track their use and get leak alerts. For an irrigation installer that's two things worth putting on the site: that systems are set to the property's days, and that a leak alert after installation is a reason to call you back.
Council's native plant programs. Under the Free Native Plant Program, ratepayers on residential properties can get up to four free plants a year per rate assessment, ordered ahead and collected on Wednesday mornings from 6 Swayne Street, North Mackay. Gardens for Wildlife gives an extra ten local natives, capped at 500 gardens a year, as long as one canopy tree is included, and participants get a sign for their fence. Land for Wildlife, a voluntary habitat program for private land, urban or rural, can supply 20 plants to eligible properties. A landscaper who knows these programs can help a client make the most of them, and a sentence saying so is the kind of local knowledge a client from Shoal Point or Mount Pleasant notices.
Weeds and the biosecurity obligation. The Mackay Regional Pest Management Group's 15 priority weeds for the Mackay Whitsunday region include parthenium, giant rat's tail grass, sicklepod, rubbervine, bellyache bush, Singapore daisy and mother of millions. Under the Biosecurity Act 2014 everyone has a general biosecurity obligation to take reasonable and practical steps to prevent or minimise a biosecurity risk, and council's pest officers take reports on 1300 622 529. If your crew moves soil, turf or green waste between properties, a short note on how you keep weeds from travelling with it is worth having.
Trees, and where the work is. Council keeps 2.4 metres of clearance above footpaths, leaves trees near powerlines to Ergon, and sends owners of private trees that encroach on council land a letter giving them 28 days to fix it. The council area runs from the northern beaches through the city suburbs to Walkerston, Marian, Mirani, Sarina and up to Eungella, with the Whitsunday and Isaac councils beyond. We're a web design team in Adelaide, and Mackay landscapers work with us by phone and email: you send job photos, your licence details if you have one and the suburbs you cover, and we send back a draft link to check between jobs.
