Website Design for Arborists and Tree Services

Websites for arborists, tree loppers and stump grinding operators that put your storm call-out number where a worried homeowner will see it, and let everyone else send photos of the tree for a quote.

What a tree service website needs

Tree work comes in two ways. After a storm, someone has a limb through the gutter or a tree across the driveway and wants a person on the phone straight away. The rest of the time, homeowners, strata managers and builders are planning: a gum too close to the house, a stump in the way of new turf, a report for a development application. Those people read further, compare a few operators and look hard at who is qualified and insured to be up the tree.

  • Storm and emergency work, set apart

If you take after-hours call-outs, a strip across the top of every page says so, with a tap-to-call number and the areas you'll attend. Below it, one honest line on when to call someone else: Triple Zero (000) if anyone's life is at risk, and in NSW the SES on 132 500 for storm help. Someone standing in the rain looking at a split trunk will appreciate being told straight.

  • A quote form built around photos

Plenty of tree jobs can be roughly priced from pictures. The form asks for two or three photos from a phone (the whole tree, the base and the access), the suburb, a rough height, whether it's near the house, a fence or power lines, and whether the client wants the wood and green waste taken away or the mulch left on site.

  • Stump grinding with its own section

People search for stump grinding by itself, often after felling a tree themselves or buying a house with old stumps in the yard. Give it a section or page of its own: how far below ground you grind, what happens to the grindings, whether surface roots are included, and the narrowest gate your grinder fits through.

  • Qualifications and memberships spelled out

Arboriculture Australia's registered categories are a good guide to what to list. A Registered Practicing Arborist holds an AQF Level 3 arboriculture qualification and a Registered Consulting Arborist holds AQF Level 5, each with minimum insurance and yearly training points. Registered members are listed in its Find an Arborist directory and receive member logos, which we place with a link to your listing. If you hold the ISA's Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), name it; it's valid for seven years.

  • Permits and approvals, in plain words

Clients often ask whether they need council approval before you touch a tree. The answer depends on the state, the council and the tree, so the site should say what you do about it: check each job, lodge the application for the client, or send them to council first. In NSW, the RFS's 10/50 scheme lets landholders in a designated entitlement area clear trees within 10 metres of a home without seeking approval, as long as they check the RFS online tool on the day and keep to the scheme's conditions.

  • Insurance and safety, stated

Strata managers, schools and builders ask for a public liability certificate of currency before they book, so a line saying it's available on request saves an email. List the climbing, rigging and elevating work platform training your crew holds, and say whether you work near power lines yourselves or bring in someone authorised for it.

  • Jobs shown before and after

Removals photograph well: the tree leaning over the roof, the rigging or crane, the cleared yard afterwards. Caption each job with the suburb and the problem. For pruning and crown lifts, before-and-after shots taken from the same spot show the difference far better than a close-up of a cut.

A tree service website we built

Western Sydney Stump Grinding & Tree Removal is our client in this trade: a family-owned business doing stump grinding, tree removal, trimming and emergency work. Its site shows how little a tree business needs to get started online.

Western Sydney Stump Grinding & Tree Removal

Trades & construction · Western & Greater Sydney

Covering Western and Greater Sydney, with 24/7 emergency work. We kept the site to a single page: two quote forms, so a visitor can ask for a price from either end of the page, tap-to-call throughout, a services section, customer reviews and the list of areas the business travels to.

“Nothing is ever a problem, will email back on a Saturday night if need be.”

Questions arborists ask us

Can customers send photos of the tree with their quote request?

Yes. The form accepts photos straight from a phone camera, along with the suburb and the questions you choose, such as height, access and whether power lines are close by. Everything arrives together in one enquiry, so you can often give a rough figure before you visit.

Should we put prices for tree removal on the site?

Removal prices are hard to publish because height, access, rigging and disposal change with every tree. A starting price for grinding a single stump, or your minimum call-out charge, is easier to give and screens out jobs too small to be worth the drive. It's your decision, and nothing goes live until you've approved the draft.

What should the site say about council permits?

Say what you do rather than trying to summarise the law for every council. For example, that you check whether a tree needs approval before quoting and can lodge the application. If you work in NSW, you can link to the RFS 10/50 vegetation clearing page (opens in a new tab) for clients in an entitlement area. If you want state rules on the page, send them in your own words with the official source, and we'll link to it.

Can our Arboriculture Australia membership go on the site?

Yes. Send us the member logo files from your media kit and your directory link. We place the logo in the footer and on your about section, linked to your listing, and name the category you hold so a client knows what it means. If your registration lapses, tell us and we'll take it down; that change is covered by the $30 monthly hosting.

Which package suits a tree service?

A crew doing removals, pruning and stump grinding in one region usually fits the one-page site at $399. That's the same size as our Western Sydney client's site. Add consulting reports or several regions and the 3-page site at $899 or the 8-page site at $1,499 gives each its own page.

Do you work with tree services outside Adelaide?

Yes. We're a web design team on Hutt St in Adelaide, South Australia, and we work with businesses around Australia by phone and email. Our clients so far are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD, and our tree service client is in Western Sydney.
