How Much Does a Website Cost in Mackay?

Starter websites offered to Mackay businesses are priced anywhere from $750 to $5,000, and an 8-page site from a Mackay designer is $2,990. Here's what sits behind that spread, what the sites cost to keep running, and what we charge.

Prices published for Mackay in 2026

More providers put prices on their Mackay pages than you might expect. The table lists what four Mackay-based businesses, a Brisbane studio and a Newcastle studio were publishing in November 2026, along with a marketplace's estimates for the city. None of the build prices says whether GST is included, so ask each provider before you put two figures side by side.

Why a starter site can cost $750 or $5,000

The cheapest and dearest starter packages in the table differ by more than six times, and both can be fair. The difference is in what the provider does around the page. The $5,000 starter from the Mackay agency comes with Google Business Profile set-up, analytics set-up and two rounds of revisions on a custom design. The Mackay and Whitsundays agency writes the words for you and prepares your photos. A cheaper package usually assumes you'll supply the words and photos and that the design follows a set layout.

So before you compare totals, work out who is doing each job:

  • Words. Are they writing the copy, editing what you send, or arranging what you supply? One Mackay designer lists text editing as an add-on, which tells you the base price assumes your words.
  • Photos. Stock photos and photo editing appear as extras on the same designer's list. If you have your own phone photos of jobs, vehicles or the team, you skip that cost.
  • Pages. Page caps run from one to unlimited. Count the pages you actually need before you pay for room you won't use.
  • Revisions. Two rounds is common. If you think you'll want to tweak wording several times, find out what a third round costs.

We arrange the words and photos you send; we don't write copy or take photos. In return, the price stays low and the number of changes stays open: you ask for as many as you like on the draft before you approve it. If you'd rather hand over the writing entirely, a provider that includes copywriting is worth the higher price.

Deposits, revision rounds and when you pay

How you pay matters almost as much as how much. One Mackay studio asks for a 50% deposit to begin and offers payment plans on request. The Mackay WordPress designer takes 50% upfront with the balance after launch, and the Mackay and Whitsundays agency takes half to start and half on launch. That's normal in the industry and protects the designer's time, but it means you've committed money before you've seen a design.

We work the other way round. There's no deposit: we build the draft first, you ask for changes until you're happy, and you pay once you approve it. If the draft isn't right for you and you decide not to go ahead, you owe nothing. For a Mackay business that has been burned by a half-finished site before, that removes most of the risk.

What a Mackay site costs to keep running

The build is a one-off; hosting and care are paid every year. Running costs published for Mackay vary as much as the builds do:

Published hosting and care fees for Mackay sites, November 2026
OptionPublished feePer year
Mackay studio, Essentials care plan$59 a month$708
The same studio, Growth care plan$99 a month$1,188
The same studio, Premium care plan$179 a month$2,148
Mackay and Whitsundays agency, hosting and care$780 a year plus GST$858 with GST
Newcastle studio, managed hostingFrom $50 a monthFrom $600
WebCraft Studio hosting$30 a month$360

Those plans cover different things, so read what's in each. Ours covers hosting, security monitoring, backups, email support and unlimited text and image changes on your existing pages. New pages or features are quoted before we start. There's no contract and you can cancel anytime. Add about $20 a year for a domain registered in your name. Over three years, a 3-page site with us comes to $899 plus $1,080 of hosting plus about $60 for the domain. Our guide on what website hosting should include has a checklist for comparing plans.

Mining services, cane and the wet season

Mackay is known as the gateway to the Bowen Basin coal reserves, and Wikipedia counts 34 operating coal mines there. Sugar is the other big industry, with Mackay Sugar producing about 850,000 tonnes of raw sugar a year. That mix shapes the sites local businesses need. A contractor or workshop selling to mine sites may well be looked up by a site supervisor or buyer who wants a plain page of services, equipment and the areas covered, plus a phone number that dials when tapped. That fits comfortably in our 3-page or 8-page package.

Tourism adds another layer. Eungella, Finch Hatton and the northern beaches from Bucasia to Shoal Point draw visitors, and operators there need dates, prices and a way to book. We build online booking and payment systems into a site and quote them per job, or we link a booking tool you already use.

The weather matters too. Mackay's wet season runs from about December to March, with hot, humid weather and heavy rain, and the February 2008 flood affected around 2,000 homes. For many businesses that means changed hours, closure notices or a note about storm work at short notice. On our hosting those edits are included: email us the new wording and we update the page.

Help from Mackay Regional Council

Mackay Regional Council endorsed a Small Business Action Plan on 22 April 2026, built with the Mackay Region Chamber of Commerce and local industry partners. It has 26 actions across seven areas, including better access to small business information, stronger procurement pathways and support for youth and start-up businesses, with delivery planned from July 2026 to June 2027. The council says more than 12,500 businesses operate in the region.

For digital questions, the federal Digital Solutions program offers free workshops and webinars and up to five hours of one-on-one advice for a small fee to sole traders and businesses with fewer than 20 full-time-equivalent staff; business.gov.au names BUSY Business as its Queensland provider. Either is a sensible place to work out what your site needs to do before you collect quotes. Check current sessions and any fees with them directly.

Working with us from Mackay

We don't have clients in Mackay yet. Our clients are in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, and the Queensland ones include M.J. Debney Plumbing & Gas, whose single-page site has six services, a 13-photo gallery that swipes on a phone and a protected contact form, and Queensland Dance & Performing Arts on Brisbane's Bayside, which has a 12-page site with a class timetable and online enrolment.

A Mackay project runs by phone and email from our Adelaide office. You send your words and photos, we send a draft link, and you reply with changes when it suits you, whether that's from the office or between site visits. Queensland stays on standard time all year, so Adelaide is half an hour ahead of Mackay from early October to early April and half an hour behind for the rest of the year. We reply within 24 hours.

Mackay website cost questions

How much does a website cost in Mackay?

Published prices for Mackay businesses start at $750 from a Brisbane studio and $990 from a Newcastle studio. Mackay-based providers publish $2,500 for up to 5 pages, $2,990 for up to 8 pages and $5,000 for a custom single page. A marketplace estimates $870–$4,350 for a 5–10 page site. Ours are $399, $899 or $1,499, with no GST added.

Is a Mackay-based designer worth paying more for?

It can be, if you want someone to visit your premises, write your words or prepare your photos. If you already have words and photos and are happy to work by phone and email, a remote team can build the same kind of site for less. Compare what each price includes rather than where the designer sits.

Can our site take bookings for tours or equipment hire?

Yes. We build online booking and payment systems into a site and quote them per job once we know how your bookings work. If you already use a booking tool, we can link it from every page instead.

Who updates the site when our hours change in the wet season?

We do. Text and image changes on your existing pages are included in the $30 monthly hosting, so you email us the new hours or notice and we change it. New pages or features are quoted first.

Do we need to pay anything upfront?

No. There's no deposit. We build the draft, you ask for as many changes as you like, and you pay once you approve it. If you don't go ahead, you owe nothing.

Do you have clients in Mackay?

Not yet. Our clients are in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, including a Queensland plumber and a dance school on Brisbane's Bayside. Everyone outside Adelaide works with us by phone and email, which is how a Mackay project would run.
