Website Design for Accountants on the Sunshine Coast

Websites for tax agents, BAS agents and accounting practices from Caloundra to Noosa and up into the hinterland. Text that's comfortable to read at any age, retirement and super services described within what your licence allows, and a clear first step for people who've just moved to the coast from interstate.

What a Sunshine Coast practice's website should cover

In the ABS's June 2024 estimates, 21.8% of people in the Sunshine Coast council area were 65 or older, and in Noosa the figure was 28.6%, compared with 13.3% in Brisbane. A practice here often looks after retirees and people close to retiring alongside its small business clients, and the website has to work for both.

  • Easy reading for every age

Generous text size, strong contrast, plain headings, buttons labelled in words and a phone number that can be tapped on every page. Someone in their late seventies reading on a tablet should find your services and number as quickly as a café owner checking on a phone.

  • Super and SMSF work, described exactly

ASIC separates the SMSF services an accountant can offer without an Australian financial services licence from those that need one. Your super and SMSF page should use your own description of what you do and on what basis; we set it out clearly and link to ASIC's information sheet rather than summarising it.

  • A welcome for new arrivals

People who've moved up from Sydney or Melbourne may arrive with a former home now rented out, property still held in another state, or a business to restructure. If that's work you know, a section headed for people new to the coast tells them you've seen it before.

  • Noosa named in its own right

Noosa Shire has been a separate council since 2014, and its towns, Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin, Cooroy and Pomona, are the names people type. If you see clients there, list the towns rather than relying on 'Sunshine Coast' to cover them.

  • The person behind the practice

A retiree handing over their affairs for years to come wants to know who will answer the phone. A short profile of each accountant with a recent photo, their memberships and the kind of clients they look after builds that trust before the first meeting.

  • Appointment options spelled out

Daytime appointments, home visits if you make them, drop-off for paperwork and a phone line answered by a person: say which of these you offer, and how to arrange each one, so nobody has to ring just to ask.

Accounting on the Sunshine Coast: retirees, newcomers and two councils

The regulatory basics. Registration and state taxes work the same here as in Brisbane: the Tax Practitioners Board registers tax and BAS agents, and the Queensland Revenue Office runs payroll tax, land tax and transfer duty. Our Brisbane accountants page covers both, and our Sydney page explains the APESB code of ethics rule on honest marketing that applies to members of CPA Australia, CA ANZ and the IPA.

Two councils and many centres. Sunshine Coast Council takes in Caloundra, Kawana, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Buderim, Nambour, Coolum and hinterland towns such as Maleny. Noosa Shire, re-established as its own council on 1 January 2014, covers Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin and the towns inland. Maroochydore is building a new city centre as a priority development area, and the council's City Hall has been there since December 2022. Name your own centre and the ones you draw clients from, and say whether people at the other end of the coast can work with you by phone or video.

An older population, and SMSF wording. The ABS put the median age at 42.9 in the Sunshine Coast council area and 51 in Noosa in June 2024, against 35.7 in Brisbane. If retirees are a large share of your clients, pensions, super and SMSFs will feature on your site. ASIC's Information Sheet 216 explains that the recognised accountants' exemption was repealed on 1 July 2016, so recommending that someone acquire or dispose of an SMSF interest is financial product advice that needs an AFS licence. Advice on establishing, operating, structuring or valuing an SMSF, and tax advice on an SMSF interest given under the conditions ASIC sets out, can be provided without one. If you hold a licence, or work with a licensed planner for that side, the page can say so plainly.

People who've moved from interstate. At the 2021 Census, 7.9% of Sunshine Coast residents aged five and over had lived in another state or territory five years earlier, and in Noosa it was 10.7%; most came from New South Wales or Victoria. A new arrival is choosing an accountant from scratch, sometimes with a home or investment property left behind, which can mean dealing with that state's revenue office as well as Queensland's. If you know that work, say so, and explain how a first appointment runs for someone who's never been to your office.

Holiday lets, farms and working with us. In Noosa, short-stay letting has needed council approval under a local law since February 2022, and the approval must be renewed every year. Inland, the council's investment office counts more than 900 agribusinesses in the region, with strawberries, macadamias, pineapples and tomatoes among its growth areas. If either group is part of your practice, give it a heading. We're an Adelaide team on Hutt St and work with practices outside South Australia by phone and email; you send the details, we send a draft, and you pay once you approve it.

Sites built for readers who want reassurance

Neither of these is an accounting firm, but both were designed for people who want to know who they're dealing with before they get in touch: a Melbourne doctor's coaching practice, and an aged care provider whose site is made to be easy to read. The review below comes from the accounting firm we built a site for.

Home page of the Dr Tabara Dione Coaching website

Dr Tabara Dione Coaching

Professional services · Melbourne

Confidential coaching for doctors, led by a Melbourne specialist anaesthetist. An about page sets out her credentials, and a discovery-call booking is linked from every page. A practice can take the same approach: introduce each accountant properly, then let a prospective client book a first call.

Home page of the Golden Years Aged Care Support website

Golden Years Aged Care Support

Home & care services · Northern Adelaide

In-home support for older people across Northern Adelaide. The six-page site explains nine services on one page, uses large readable text, has tap-to-call on every page and an enquiry form with a referral option for aged care providers. Those choices suit a practice with many retired clients, and the referral option works for referrals from planners and estate lawyers.

“Salem was fantastic to work with on our accounting firm’s website. From day one, he was professional, responsive…”

Questions from Sunshine Coast accountants

Can our website say we give SMSF advice?

Describe what you actually do. ASIC's Information Sheet 216 separates the SMSF services that need an Australian financial services licence from those that don't, so the page should use your own description of the service and your licence position; we lay it out and link to ASIC. If a licensed planner handles the advice side for your clients, the page can say that.

How do you make a site easier for older clients to read?

Larger text, clear fonts with strong contrast, short sections with plain headings, buttons labelled in words rather than icons, and your phone number on every page. We build those in from the start, at no extra cost, and you can ask for changes to any of them on the draft.

We're in Maroochydore but see clients in Noosa. Should the site mention it?

Yes. Noosa has been a separate council since 2014, so a line naming Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin and Cooroy, and saying whether you meet clients there or by phone, covers the searches people make by town name.

Do we need a separate page for people moving from interstate?

Not always; a section on the services page can do it. If new arrivals with property in NSW or Victoria are a real part of your work, name that work and explain how the first appointment runs. A dedicated page makes sense on the up-to-8-page package.

You're in Adelaide. Is working together straightforward?

Yes. We work with practices outside South Australia by phone and email, and our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. Queensland has no daylight saving, so from October to April Adelaide is half an hour ahead of the coast and for the rest of the year half an hour behind. We reply within 24 hours either way.

Thinking about a new site for your Sunshine Coast practice?

Send us your services, the clients you look after and the registrations and licences you hold. We'll quote a fixed price, build the draft for you to check, and you pay nothing until you approve it.
