Website Design for Accountants in Albury-Wodonga

Websites for Border tax agents, BAS agents and accounting practices. Clients on either bank of the Murray can see that you look after their state's taxes as well as the ATO's, which office is nearest, and how to check your registration before they call.

What a Border practice's website has to get right

Albury and Wodonga sit either side of the Murray and are often treated as one city, but tax isn't. Income tax and GST are federal, while payroll tax, land tax and duty depend on which side of the river the wages are paid or the land sits. A Border practice site should make clear that you handle both.

  • Both states named in the first screen

One line near the top, such as “Clients in NSW and Victoria, offices in Albury and Wodonga”, tells a reader from Lavington or Baranduda that they're in the right place. If you only have one office, say which side it's on and that you work with clients from the other.

  • Revenue NSW and the Victorian SRO, side by side

Payroll tax, land tax and transfer duty are run by Revenue NSW on one bank and the State Revenue Office on the other, with different rates, thresholds and forms. A section that names both offices and the work you do with each shows you aren't learning the other state's system on the client's file.

  • A page for employers with staff in both states

A business with a shop in Albury and a depot in Wodonga pays wages in two states, and each state works out its own threshold by its share of the wages. If you handle registrations, monthly returns and annual reconciliations on both sides, give employers a page of their own.

  • Property work for buyers comparing both banks

First home buyers here can look at houses in Thurgoona and West Wodonga in the same weekend, and the duty concessions differ. If you help buyers and investors with the tax side of a purchase, say so and link to each state's revenue office for the rules.

  • Towns across the wider region

Clients may come from Corowa, Holbrook and Culcairn on the NSW side, or Beechworth, Rutherglen, Tallangatta and Corryong in Victoria. Name the towns you visit or serve, and say how people further out work with you: phone, video, portal uploads and e-signing.

  • Your registration and memberships

TPB registration number and type with a link to your Register entry, the client information page the TPB expects, and your CPA, CA ANZ or IPA membership, shown using the artwork your body supplies. These look the same whichever state a client lives in.

Accounting on the Border: two state revenue offices, one client base

Federal registration, unchanged by the river. The Tax Practitioners Board registers tax and BAS agents nationally, so the TPB's rules don't change at the Murray. The registered tax practitioner symbol and the professional standards on advertising are covered on our Sydney accountants page, and the client information requirement on our Perth accountants page. Even CPA Australia treats the Border as one area: its Albury Wodonga branch committee sits under the New South Wales division and runs local events for members in postcodes on both sides, Wodonga's 3690 included.

Payroll tax works differently on each bank. In NSW, payroll tax for 2026-27 is 5.45% of wages above a $1,200,000 threshold, and an employer that also pays wages in another state gets only the NSW share of that threshold, worked out by the proportion of its Australian wages paid in NSW. Victoria's standard rate is 4.85% with a $1,000,000 threshold from 1 July 2025, which starts to shrink once Australian wages pass $3 million and is gone at $5 million. Victoria also has a regional employer rate of 1.2125%, for employers that pay at least 85% of their Victorian taxable wages to employees who do more than half of their Victorian work in regional Victoria, and Wodonga City Council is on the SRO's list of regional councils. A practice that sorts out these questions for Border employers has something specific to put on its business services page.

Property on either side. First home buyer concessions are set by each state. In NSW, for contracts from 1 July 2023, an eligible first home buyer pays no transfer duty on a home valued up to $800,000 and a concessional rate below $1 million. In Victoria the exemption applies to homes with a dutiable value up to $600,000, with a concession between $600,001 and $750,000. Land tax is also assessed by the state the land is in, under each state's own rules; our Melbourne accountants page explains the Victorian changes since 2024 that brought smaller landholdings into land tax. Name this work if you do it, and link to Revenue NSW and the SRO for the figures.

Councils and cross-border help. AlburyCity and the City of Wodonga sit at the centre, with Greater Hume and Federation councils on the NSW side and Indigo and Towong shires in Victoria. When an issue falls between the two state systems, the NSW Office of the Cross-Border Commissioner advocates for border communities and businesses on issues that cross state lines; on the Victorian side, the government appointed its first Cross Border Commissioner in 2018 to promote the interests of border communities.

Working with us. We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St and work with Border practices by phone and email, half an hour behind you all year. Our current clients include businesses in both New South Wales and Victoria, among them Resolve Forward in Sydney and Dr Tabara Dione Coaching in Melbourne, shown below.

Professional services sites from both sides of the border

Resolve Forward is a New South Wales practice and Dr Tabara Dione Coaching is in Victoria. Both sell professional services by appointment, and both sites show how a practice can explain its services and take a first booking. The review below is from an accounting firm we built a website for.

Home page of the Resolve Forward website

Resolve Forward

Professional services · Sydney

A Sydney practice in family law dispute resolution. Each of its six service pages answers its own questions, packages with set prices lead to online booking, and a five-step intake form gathers the background first. A Border practice could use separate intake questions for NSW and Victorian clients in the same way.

Dr Tabara Dione Coaching

Professional services · Melbourne

Confidential coaching for doctors, run by a Melbourne specialist anaesthetist. The site sets out the services, gives her credentials an about page of their own, and links online booking for a discovery call from every page. A practice can use the same pattern for a first meeting, with partners' qualifications on the about page.

“Salem was fantastic to work with on our accounting firm’s website. From day one, he was professional, responsive…”

Questions from Albury-Wodonga accountants

Our clients live on both sides of the border. Should the site split NSW and Victoria?

Split the state-based services, not the whole site. Income tax, BAS and bookkeeping read the same for everyone, so they sit on one page. Payroll tax, land tax and duty get a NSW section and a Victorian section, each linking to its own revenue office, so a reader can go straight to the one that applies to them.

Should our site mention Victoria's regional payroll tax rate?

If you advise Wodonga employers on it, a sentence saying you check eligibility for the regional rate is useful. We'd leave the detailed conditions to the SRO's own page and link to it, because rates and thresholds change, and an out-of-date figure on your site does more harm than none.

Can one website cover an Albury office and a Wodonga office?

Yes. Each office gets its own page with its address, state, hours, phone number and the people based there, and the contact page shows both side by side. If each office has its own Google Business Profile, each listing links to its own office page.

Should we name towns outside Albury and Wodonga?

Name the ones you actually serve, whether that's Corowa, Holbrook and Jindera or Beechworth, Yackandandah and Tallangatta, and say whether you visit or work with them remotely. A short, accurate list is more useful to a reader than a long list of every town within 100 km.

Do you work with businesses in both NSW and Victoria?

Yes. Our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD, and we work with everyone outside Adelaide by phone and email. You send your services, registration details and photos; we build a draft, you ask for changes, and you pay once you approve it. We reply within 24 hours.

Planning a website for your Border practice?

Tell us which side of the river your offices are on, the state taxes you handle and the towns you cover. We'll quote, build the draft, and you pay only once you've approved it.
