The Queensland rules don't change at the council line. Complaints about psychologists and counsellors go to the Office of the Health Ombudsman, counsellors and psychotherapists work under the Queensland code of conduct for health care workers, and WorkCover Queensland and Victim Assist Queensland are the two state schemes that pay private practitioners for therapy. Our Brisbane psychologists and counsellors page sets each out with links to the official guidance, so this section stays on Moreton Bay.
Brisbane North PHN commissioned the first three Medicare Mental Health Centres on Brisbane's northside, and two of them are in Moreton Bay. Strathpine, at 7/327 Gympie Road, opens on weekday afternoons from 1pm to 5pm; Caboolture, on Level 1 at 21 Pettigrew Street, opens weekdays from 8.30am to 4.30pm. Both opened on 22 August 2025 alongside a third centre at Lutwyche, and the three are operated between them by Communify, Neami National and Stride. They offer free support to people in distress, with no appointment, referral or treatment plan needed, from teams that include mental health clinicians and peer workers. The release announcing them (opens in a new tab) said further northside centres would open in Redcliffe, Chermside, The Gap and Everton Hills. Anyone unsure where to start can call Medicare Mental Health on 1800 595 212.
There are five headspace sites in the region. headspace Caboolture, on East Street, and headspace Bribie Island, on First Avenue at Bongaree and open Monday to Wednesday, are both run by Youturn and bulk bill their services at no cost to the young person or their family. headspace Redcliffe, on Oxley Avenue, and headspace Strathpine, on Gympie Road, are both run by Open Minds and offer telehealth appointments as well as sessions in person. Staying Deadly | headspace Deception Bay, run by the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health, has Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander care coordinators working alongside its clinicians. Funding for all five is administered by Brisbane North PHN, the network whose area runs from Indooroopilly to Redcliffe and up to Kilcoy, Bribie Island included, so a practice in Albany Creek or Strathpine sits in the same referral landscape as one in Chermside.
For a private site, that means two things. A visitor comparing options knows free help exists, so specific detail about your approach, fees and wait does more than general reassurance. And it's worth having one line, near the fees or the urgent-help note, pointing someone who can't afford sessions or can't wait to the walk-in centre nearest them, with its hours, since Strathpine opens only in the afternoon.
We're an Adelaide team and work with Moreton Bay practices by phone and email. We haven't built a psychology or counselling site yet. The two projects below include a Queensland client on Brisbane's Bayside and an in-home care provider whose enquiry form handles referrals from aged care providers.
