Website Design for Psychologists and Counsellors in Newcastle

Websites for psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens and the Upper Hunter, set out around what a Hunter client is weighing up: whether you work with problems like theirs, what you cost next to the free services nearby, and how long they'd wait to see you.

What a Hunter psychology or counselling website should cover

Someone in the Hunter looking for therapy has several possible starting points: their GP, the free Medicare Mental Health phone line or centres, a PHN-funded program, or a private practitioner they find by searching. A private practice site earns its place by being clear about what it offers and on what terms.

  • What you offer next to the free services

Your fee and the likely out-of-pocket cost after a Better Access rebate, whether you bulk bill anyone, the problems and therapies you work with, and whether you see people over months as well as for a short block. Set out plainly, that lets a person choose between you and a free service without feeling pushed.

  • A wait time that stays current

Whether you're taking new clients, roughly how long the wait is, and whether you keep a waitlist or a cancellation list. Changing that line as your books fill or open up is a text edit covered by the $30 monthly hosting, so it doesn't have to sit there out of date.

  • The right place name

Charlestown, Warners Bay, Belmont and Toronto are in Lake Macquarie, not the City of Newcastle, and Raymond Terrace belongs to Port Stephens. People search using the suburb they know, so your rooms page gives the suburb, the council area, the street and the parking, rather than a loose mention of Newcastle.

  • Telehealth for the Upper Hunter and further out

If you see clients by video, say so near the top and on the fees page, along with any difference in fee or rebate between video and in-person sessions. Someone in Singleton, Muswellbrook, Scone or Dungog can then tell at once whether the drive is a problem.

  • PHN-funded places, if you deliver them

If you see some clients under a program commissioned by the local PHN, the fees page says who may qualify and that these places begin with a GP referral and the program's central intake, not with your booking link, which stays for private and Better Access clients.

  • Bios that match what each person holds

A psychologist's bio matches their Ahpra registration and any area of practice endorsement. A counsellor or psychotherapist lists their ACA or PACFA membership; in NSW the state code of conduct says they must not misinform clients about themselves or their practice, so each bio claims only what the person actually holds.

  • Urgent help, with NSW and local options

A note on every page that the practice isn't a crisis service, pointing to 000, Lifeline on 13 11 14 and the NSW Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511, plus, for someone who isn't in crisis but can't get to a GP, the Medicare Mental Health phone service on 1800 595 212, which answers on weekdays from 8:30am to 5pm.

Psychology and counselling in the Hunter: what's local

The state rules are the same as in Sydney. Complaints about NSW psychologists are shared between the Psychology Council of NSW and the Health Care Complaints Commission; counsellors and psychotherapists come under the NSW code of conduct for non-registered practitioners and its display requirement; Victims Services approves counsellors for the state's Victims Support Scheme; and the workers compensation test for primary psychological injury claims narrowed for injuries notified from 1 July 2026. Our Sydney psychologists and counsellors page explains each of these, with links to the official guidance.

What is particular to the Hunter is the set of free and funded services a private practice works alongside. The Hunter New England and Central Coast PHN lists three Medicare Mental Health Centres in its region: two on the Central Coast, at Tuggerah and Gosford, and one in Muswellbrook, at 160 Bridge Street, which was officially opened in July 2024 and is run by the not-for-profit Social Futures. The PHN says Upper Hunter residents can use that free service, with no referral, in Muswellbrook, Singleton and Scone. None of the three is in Newcastle or Lake Macquarie. The same PHN funds psychological services for people facing financial hardship or other barriers to care: a GP usually refers, a central intake service allocates the referral, and for Greater Newcastle, the Hunter and the Manning the provider listed on the PHN's psychological services page (opens in a new tab) is Hunter Primary Care.

None of that replaces private practice, but it changes what a visitor is comparing. A person who knows free options exist wants to see quickly why they'd book with you: what you focus on, what you charge and what Medicare gives back, how long the wait is and whether you have evening or video sessions. A site that answers those questions plainly, and points people to the free options when those would suit them better, is an honest one to send a GP or a friend to.

Geography matters as well. At the 2021 Census, 213,845 people lived in the Lake Macquarie council area and 168,873 in the City of Newcastle, so a practice in Charlestown or Warners Bay loses nothing by saying Lake Macquarie, and one in East Maitland or Rutherford should say Maitland. A practitioner who sees Upper Hunter clients by video can name those towns too, alongside the suburb of their own rooms.

We're an Adelaide team and work with Hunter practitioners by phone and email. We haven't built a psychology or counselling site yet. Our nearest local client is Phoenix Housekeeping in Lake Macquarie, whose quote form includes a discreet call-back option; it's shown below with Dr Tabara Dione's coaching site.

Sites we've built where discretion matters

Neither is a therapy practice. Phoenix Housekeeping is a Hunter business whose work includes trauma and deceased estate cleaning, so some customers get in touch at a hard moment, and Dr Tabara Dione coaches doctors in confidence.

A Lake Macquarie cleaning business that also takes on trauma and deceased estate cleans. Its prices are published, it has suburb pages across its service area, and the quote form offers a discreet call-back option, which a counselling enquiry form can offer too.

Dr Tabara Dione Coaching

Professional services · Melbourne

One-to-one coaching for doctors from a Melbourne specialist anaesthetist. Visitors read about her background and the coaching itself, then book a discovery call online or send a message, much as a counsellor might offer a short introductory call before a first session.

“Rebuilt two websites for our businesses and saved us a fortune on hosting etc. Nothing is ever a problem, will email back on a Saturday night if need be.”

Questions Hunter psychologists and counsellors ask us

Should our site mention the free Medicare Mental Health Centres?

It can, in the urgent-help or other-options note. A line pointing to the Medicare Mental Health phone service on 1800 595 212, which can tell a caller about their nearest centre and other free or low-cost support, or to the Muswellbrook centre if you see Upper Hunter clients, tells someone who can't afford private sessions where they can go. Send us the wording you're comfortable with and we'll place it where it reads naturally, usually near the fees.

How do we show our wait time without it going stale?

We put it in one spot, usually near the top of the fees or contact page, as a short line you can change by emailing us. Text changes like that are covered by the $30 monthly hosting, and we reply within 24 hours, so the line can follow your books from week to week.

Our rooms are in Charlestown. Should the site say Newcastle or Lake Macquarie?

Both, each in its place. The address and rooms page say Charlestown, Lake Macquarie; the home page can say you see clients from across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, and by video if you offer it. Naming your actual suburb matches how people search without suggesting you're somewhere you're not.

We take PHN-funded referrals as well as private clients. How do we explain the difference?

On the fees page, in two short sections. Private and Better Access clients book through your normal link. PHN-funded places start with a referral, usually from a GP, and are allocated through the program's central intake, so the site says who might be eligible, suggests they talk to their GP, and links to the PHN's page (opens in a new tab) rather than restating its criteria.

Can we work with you from Newcastle when you're based in Adelaide?

Yes. Outside Adelaide everything runs by phone and email. Our team is at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, Adelaide, and our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD, including Phoenix Housekeeping in Lake Macquarie. You send your words, photos and practitioner details, we build the draft and send you a link, you ask for changes until it's right, and you pay once you approve it.

Ready to start your practice website in the Hunter?

Tell us who you see, where your rooms are, whether you offer telehealth and how long your wait is. We'll quote and build the draft, and you pay nothing until you approve it.

We reply within 24 hours. Prefer email? info@webcraftstudio.com.au
