Victoria's rules apply as written. Melton is part of Greater Melbourne, so everything on our Melbourne plumbers page applies here: plumbers are registered or licensed with the Building and Plumbing Commission as individuals, a licensed plumber's compliance certificate is needed for work worth more than $750 and for some gas and drainage work at any price, and the 2027 changes to gas in new and existing homes and the two-yearly gas safety checks in rentals cover Melton households too.
Growth, and who supplies the water. Using ABS figures released in March 2026, the City of Melton says it is the fastest-growing municipality in Australia, with growth of 5.8 per cent in 2024–25 and an estimated 231,567 residents at 30 June 2025. Its 31 suburbs include several that cross the council boundary: Hillside is shared with Brimbank; Eynesbury, Mount Cottrell and Truganina with Wyndham; and Parwan with Moorabool. Water and sewerage across the municipality come from Greater Western Water, formed on 1 July 2021 when City West Water and Western Water merged.
Gas in some streets, not in others. The Victorian Government announced in July 2023 that from 1 January 2024, planning permits for new homes and residential subdivisions would only connect to all-electric networks. In a council area where estates are released stage by stage, that means newer stages built without gas can sit beside older ones that have it. A plumbing site that separates gas work from electric hot water and heat pumps lets each customer find their part without reading the whole page.
Recycled water in a few estates. Greater Western Water publishes notices of the new estate stages it intends to declare serviced. In its August 2026 notice, most stages in the City of Melton are listed for water and sewer only; those listed with recycled water as well are stages of Eynesbury, Atherstone and Exford Waters. Greater Western Water inspects Class A recycled water plumbing, and plumbers book those inspections with it, through its Property Plus portal or its service delivery partner depending on the area. If you know that process, it's worth a line for builders and owners in those estates.
Rural blocks off the sewer. The City of Melton requires rural properties without a sewer connection to have an onsite wastewater system. A Permit to Install or Alter must be approved before any work begins, and before a building permit can be issued, and a Permit to Use must be issued before the system is used. Council recommends using an authorised plumber, says the site plan must be completed by the plumber installing the system, and says wastewater systems must be serviced quarterly and tested annually, with the maintenance depending on the type of system and the sludge usually cleared every three to five years. We're an Adelaide team and work with Melton plumbers by phone and email: you send your details and photos, check the draft on your phone, and pay once you approve it.
