The state rules. Melton is part of Greater Melbourne, so the rules on our Melbourne tradies page apply as written: builders and plumbers are registered with the Building and Plumbing Commission (the former VBA), electrical contractors with Energy Safe Victoria, and the Building Act requires a registered building practitioner's name and registration number in advertising for domestic building work. Your website counts as advertising, so the number goes on every page.
A council area growing fast. The City of Melton says it is the fastest-growing municipality in Australia, with population growth of 5.8 per cent in 2024–25 according to ABS figures. Its estimated population was 231,567 at 30 June 2025, and the council's forecast is 455,980 by 2046. Melton is also one of the seven councils where growth areas can be declared under the Planning and Environment Act. Growth like that means a steady supply of people looking for trades for the first time in a new area, and they find them by searching their suburb.
Thirty-one suburbs, some very new. The council lists 31 suburbs, from Aintree to Weir Views. Several of them, including Cobblebank and Aintree, were gazetted on 9 February 2017 as part of the council's plan for eleven new suburbs, and some suburbs cross the council boundary: Hillside is shared with Brimbank, Truganina, Eynesbury and Mount Cottrell with Wyndham, and Parwan with Moorabool. That's why we list your service area by suburb rather than by council. Cobblebank station opened in December 2019, and the Cobblebank Metropolitan Activity Centre is planned as a major centre for a local population of up to 160,000 people.
Services behind the new houses. Since 1 January 2024, planning permits for new homes and residential subdivisions in Victoria only allow connection to all-electric networks, so estates permitted under that rule are going up without gas, while earlier stages may still have it. Water and sewerage come from Greater Western Water, formed on 1 July 2021 from Western Water and City West Water, and the electricity network is Powercor's. When Powercor finished upgrading the Melton network in January 2023, it said the Melton zone substation supplied about 35,000 homes and businesses, around 9,000 more than at the end of 2018. The council also inspects properties for fire hazards and issues fire prevention notices to landowners who don't comply, which brings work for slashing and clean-up businesses each season.
How we work with Melton trades. We're an Adelaide team, and everything with Victorian clients happens by phone and email. You send your services, suburbs, registration number and photos; we build a draft you can check on your phone between jobs; you ask for changes until it's right, and you pay once you approve it.
