Website Design for Lawyers in Cairns

Websites for Cairns solicitors whose clients may live in Edmonton, on the Tablelands, in a Cape York community or on Thursday Island: a page for each area of law you practise, the courts you travel to, and a clear way to get advice without a trip into the city.

What a Cairns law firm's website needs

Cairns is the legal centre for a very large region. The Sheridan Street courthouse handles registry work for several Cape York community courts, family law has its own registry in the city, and many clients will never visit your office. The site needs to work for someone reading it on a phone with patchy reception hundreds of kilometres away.

  • Practice pages in plain words

Criminal, family, domestic violence, wills and estates, property, insurance and employment disputes: a page for each area you take on, written by you, saying what you do, what the first conversation involves and how fees work. Injury work, if you do it, follows Queensland's tighter advertising rules.

  • The courts you actually travel to

A page listing where your solicitors appear, from Cairns itself to Mareeba, Atherton, Innisfail, Mossman, Cooktown or community courts such as Aurukun and Kowanyama, with a line on how often you attend. We keep it easy to change when circuit dates or venues move.

  • Advice by phone or video, stated up front

If you take instructions by phone or video, or post documents for signing, say so on the home page. A client in Weipa or on the Torres Strait islands should know from the first screen that they don't need to fly to Cairns to start.

  • Light pages that load on a weak signal

We hand-code each site without page builders, so pages stay small. Text, phone number and enquiry form appear first; photos load after. That matters for readers outside town who may be on a slow mobile connection.

  • Family law with the local registry

The Federal Circuit and Family Court has a registry and courtrooms in the Commonwealth Government Centre on Grafton Street. A family law page that names it, explains the entrances and parking, and has a quick-exit button saves clients a worried phone call.

  • Insurance and storm disputes, if you act in them

Cairns sits in a cyclone region, and the flooding after Cyclone Jasper in December 2023 left many households and businesses with insurance claims. If you act in insurance disputes, a page in your words on how you help, what documents to gather and how you charge gives people a clear starting point.

Practising law in Cairns and the Far North

Queensland's rules, briefly. Cairns solicitors work under the same Queensland legislation and conduct rules as Brisbane firms, including the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act limits on what a firm's website can say about injury work and QLS's guidance on presenting specialist accreditation. Our Brisbane lawyers page explains them with links to the official sources; this section is about the Far North.

The Sheridan Street courthouse. Queensland Courts lists Cairns Magistrates Court on the ground floor of 5D Sheridan Street, with the Supreme Court, District Court and Planning and Environment Court registries on level 3 of the same building. Cairns is one of the places where Murri Court sits and one of six specialist domestic and family violence court locations in Queensland, with a funded Community Justice Group supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander court users. The Cairns registry also takes enquiries and filing for the Magistrates Courts at Coen, Kowanyama, Lockhart River and Pormpuraaw.

Courts across the region. Further out, there are Magistrates Courts at Mareeba (14 Hort Street, which also handles Georgetown), Innisfail (10 Edith Street, which also handles Yarrabah), Mossman (25-27 Front Street) and Cooktown (172 Charlotte Street, which also handles Hope Vale and Wujal Wujal). Atherton's court is currently listed at a temporary venue in Loder Street, with a temporary registry in Mabel Street. Thursday Island's court and registry on Douglas Street also handle the courts at Badu Island, Boigu Island and Bamaga. Venues and dates change, which is why we suggest a court page you can update by email: text changes on existing pages are covered by the $30 monthly hosting.

Family law and the region's people. The Federal Circuit and Family Court's Cairns registry is on level 3 of the Commonwealth Government Centre at 94-104 Grafton Street, with courtrooms on level 4 and entrances from Shields Lane, Lake Street and Grafton Street. The 2021 Census counted 166,943 people in the Cairns council area, 9.7% of them Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; Papua New Guinea was the third most common overseas birthplace after England and New Zealand. A firm that acts for clients from remote communities can say so plainly, along with how it handles appointments, interpreters and documents at a distance.

The profession, referrals and us. The Far North Queensland Law Association, one of QLS's district law associations, has about 160 members; membership can go on a solicitor's profile. For people you can't take on, Legal Aid Queensland and the Cairns Community Legal Centre on Grafton Street are worth a referral line. We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St and work with Cairns firms by phone and email. We haven't built a site for a Far North law firm; our legal-sector client is Resolve Forward in Sydney.

Sites we've built that suit a Cairns firm

Resolve Forward, a Sydney family dispute resolution practice, is our client in the legal field and takes bookings and intake online, much as a firm with remote clients would. M.J. Debney Plumbing & Gas is one of our Queensland clients, with a single page built around tap-to-call.

“He listened to my feedback and made no hesitations to revise and adjust my website until we were completely happy with it.”

Questions from Far North firms

Many of our clients live in Cape York communities. What should the site do differently?

Keep pages light so they load on a weak signal, put the phone number first, and say clearly that you take instructions by phone or video and can post documents. If you attend community courts such as Aurukun or Lockhart River, name them on your courts page so people know you go there.

Can our courts page list circuit dates?

It can, but dates change often. We usually suggest naming the courts and how regularly you attend, and linking to Queensland Courts for listings. If you do publish dates, email us the changes and we update them; text edits on existing pages are part of the monthly hosting.

Should we have a page about insurance claims after floods or cyclones?

If you act in those disputes, yes. You write what you do, the documents a client should keep and how you charge; we lay it out clearly. We don't make claims about outcomes, and the wording is yours.

Is it worth mentioning the Far North Queensland Law Association?

If your solicitors are members, a line on their profiles is a simple local signal. It is a professional association, not a regulator, so we'd place it beside admission details and any QLS accreditation rather than in the headline.

You're in Adelaide. How does it work for a Cairns firm?

By phone and email, which suits a region used to working at a distance. We're an Adelaide (South Australia) web design team working with businesses Australia-wide, with current clients in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. You send your words, photos and solicitor details, we send a draft link, and you pay only once you approve it. We reply within 24 hours.

Planning a website for your Cairns practice?

Tell us your areas of law, the courts you travel to and how you work with clients outside town. We'll quote, build the draft, and you pay only once you approve it.
