Website Design for GP Clinics in Sydney

Websites for Sydney general practices, from a two-doctor surgery to a group with rooms in several suburbs, built so a patient can see who bulk bills at which site, book the right GP in HotDoc or HealthEngine, and know where to go when you've closed for the night.

What a Sydney GP clinic website needs

Billing at Sydney general practices has shifted twice in two years: NSW tied payroll tax relief to bulk-billing rates in September 2024, and Medicare's bulk billing incentives widened to every eligible patient in November 2025. Patients notice, and the first thing many check on a clinic's site now is whether they'll pay a gap. The rest of the page has to work just as hard for the regular patient booking their usual doctor.

  • Billing stated site by site

If you run more than one Sydney location, each can bill differently, and the state's payroll tax test is also applied location by location. A billing panel on each location page says who is bulk billed there, which appointments carry a fee, and what a standard and long consult costs before and after the Medicare rebate. One vague line on the home page covering every site leads to awkward conversations at the front desk.

  • Matching your healthdirect listing

Practices in the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program have to advertise their participation in the practice and on healthdirect's National Health Services Directory. Patients compare that listing with your own site, so the wording on both should agree, and the site should change on the same day the listing does.

  • Each doctor's own Book button

HotDoc and HealthEngine can give every GP a separate booking link. We put it on that doctor's profile next to their days, languages and interests, so a patient who wants a female GP on Saturday mornings or a doctor who speaks Cantonese gets there in two taps instead of scrolling a whole clinic calendar.

  • A driver medicals page for over-75s

Transport for NSW writes to licence holders eight weeks before each birthday from age 75, asking for a yearly fitness-to-drive medical. From 85 there is also an on-road assessment every two years. A short page explaining what to bring, how long the appointment takes and what you charge saves reception the same call every week.

  • Workers compensation, explained once

Injured workers in NSW need a certificate of capacity, and the doctor who completes it can agree on the form to act as their nominated treating doctor. If your doctors take on that role, a page says so, lists what the patient should bring (claim number, employer and insurer details) and makes clear which GPs will see them.

  • Childcare and school immunisation records

NSW childcare services must see an approved Australian Immunisation Register form, usually the AIR history statement, before a child is enrolled. Parents often book a GP visit to catch up on vaccines first, so a vaccination page that names the AIR statement, explains catch-up schedules and links to Services Australia answers the question they actually arrive with.

  • Closed-hours directions for your area

Rather than a generic after-hours paragraph, name the nearest services to your own address: your home-visit provider if you use one, the closest Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, the healthdirect line and 000. A Manly practice and a Liverpool practice will list completely different places.

General practice in Sydney: billing, licences and urgent care

The advertising side doesn't change at the border. Doctors are registered nationally through Ahpra and the Medical Board of Australia, so the rules on testimonials, titles and claims set out on our main GP clinics page apply in Sydney too. What does differ is complaints: in NSW they aren't managed by Ahpra. The Medical Council of New South Wales and the Health Care Complaints Commission consult on every complaint about a doctor and agree which of them handles it. Our Sydney allied health page covers that system in more detail.

Payroll tax is a NSW issue that sits behind many clinics' billing decisions. Under Revenue NSW's practice note CPN 036, a medical centre can claim a rebate of payroll tax on contractor GP wages paid from 4 September 2024 if at least 80% of the GP services at a Metropolitan Sydney location are bulk billed, against 70% for centres elsewhere in the state. The test counts services, not patients, and it runs separately for each location. We aren't tax advisers and the website doesn't need to mention any of this, but it does explain why two of a group's Sydney sites can end up with different billing, and why the site should state billing for each one rather than for the group.

On top of that sits the national change. Since 1 November 2025, Medicare's bulk billing incentives have applied to every Medicare-eligible patient rather than only children under 16 and concession card holders. Practices that join the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program must bulk bill all eligible services for all eligible patients, be registered for MyMedicare, and advertise their participation in the practice and on healthdirect's National Health Services Directory. A website is a natural third place for that message, as long as it matches the other two. If you only bulk bill some patients, the site needs to be just as clear about who pays and how much.

Urgent care options in Sydney are local too. Northern Sydney alone has three Medicare Urgent Care Clinics, at Brookvale, Chatswood and Top Ryde, all bulk billed walk-in services for urgent but non-emergency care. Patients search by suburb and by need (a GP in Parramatta open Sunday, a bulk billing doctor near Central, a GP in Castle Hill taking new patients), so a location page should name the suburb, the street, the nearest station and parking, and your closed-hours list should point to the clinics nearest that address.

We're an Adelaide team and work with Sydney practices by phone and email. We haven't built a GP clinic site yet, so the work below is the nearest match in how it functions, not in its industry.

Questions from Sydney practices

We've joined the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program. What should the website say?

That you bulk bill all eligible services for every Medicare-eligible patient, in the same words your healthdirect listing uses, plus a short note on anything Medicare doesn't cover, such as some medicals or forms. The Department of Health's program guidance sets out the requirements; we lay out the wording you approve and change it the same day your listing changes.

Our Parramatta site bulk bills everyone but our CBD site charges a gap. Is that a problem for one website?

No, as long as each location has its own page with its own billing panel, and the booking button on that page opens the right location in HotDoc or HealthEngine. What causes trouble is one billing statement for the whole group that's only true at one site.

Can patients book driver medicals or workers comp appointments online?

Usually yes, if your booking system lets you create those appointment types. We link each page to the matching appointment type and list what to bring. Some clinics prefer these booked by phone because they need a longer slot; the page can say that instead, with a tap-to-call button.

Can we show our Google reviews on the site?

Reviews about clinical care count as testimonials under the National Law, so we leave review widgets off. Our guide to Ahpra's advertising rules for websites explains what's allowed, and your medical defence organisation can help with anything borderline.

You're in Adelaide. How does a Sydney practice work with you?

By phone and email. You send your practice manager's notes, doctor bios, billing details and booking links; we build the full draft and send it to you, you ask for changes until it's right, and you pay once you've approved it. We reply within 24 hours.

Planning a new site for your Sydney practice?

Tell us your locations, how each one bills, which booking system you use and which GPs see driver medicals or injured workers. We'll quote, build the draft and you pay nothing until you've approved it.
