What a Website Costs in Sydney in 2026

Published Sydney prices for a small business website run from a few hundred dollars for a template to $20,000 and more at an agency. Here's what pushes Sydney quotes up, what each kind of provider charges, and where our fixed prices sit.

The short answer for Sydney

For a typical small business site of five to ten pages, one published Sydney cost guide gives a going rate of $2,000–$6,000, and expects Sydney quotes to sit in the upper half of each price band. A Sydney studio's 2026 roundup of published prices puts freelancers at $2,500–$6,000 and agencies at $4,000 to $20,000 or more, with template builds by semi-professional designers at about $400–$900.

Our hand-coded sites cost $399 for one page, $899 for up to three pages and $1,499 for up to eight. No GST is added, and nothing is paid until you approve the draft.

The spread is so wide because “a website” covers very different jobs. A tiler in Penrith who needs a phone number, a list of services and a quote form is buying something quite different from a CBD firm that wants strategy workshops, a copywriter, a photoshoot and a link into its CRM. Work out which of those you're buying before you compare prices.

Why Sydney quotes run above the national average

Most of a website's cost is people's time, so the hourly rate does most of the work. The same guide puts Sydney agency rates at $120–$250 an hour, against nearer $80–$150 for agencies nationally. Ten hours at the Sydney agency rate comes to $1,200–$2,500 before anything else is added.

Wages explain part of it. In the ABS figures for May 2026, full-time adults in New South Wales averaged $2,108.80 a week in ordinary time earnings, above the national $2,083.70 and well above South Australia's $1,970.20. A studio paying Sydney salaries, and often Sydney rent, has to recover both through its rates.

Other reasons have less to do with Sydney itself:

  • More people on the job. Larger agencies add account managers, project managers and strategists to the designer and developer, and each of them bills time.
  • Bundled services. Plenty of Sydney quotes include copywriting, photography, SEO set-up or a discovery workshop. These are real services and some businesses need them, but each one adds hours to the quote.
  • GST. A business with GST turnover of $75,000 or more has to register and charge 10% GST. If a quote says “+ GST”, a $4,000 build becomes $4,400 on the invoice.
  • Platform costs. Sites built on WordPress themes or page builders often come with paid plugins and licences that renew every year.

What each kind of Sydney provider charges

These are 2026 figures published by Sydney price guides and studios. They're ranges, not quotes, and most don't say whether GST is included, so ask.

Published Sydney website prices, 2026
Who builds itPublished rangeWhat the range describes
Semi-professional designer, template build$400–$900A ready-made template filled with your details
Freelancer$2,500–$6,000One person designing and building the site
Studio, brochure site of 4–6 pages$2,800–$5,000A small site describing the business and its services
Studio or agency, 5–8 pages$3,500–$7,000A fuller small business site
Custom build$6,000–$15,000Custom design, a content management system, content structure and speed work
Larger integrated site$15,000–$40,000Bookings, memberships or CRM connections across many sections
WebCraft Studio$399, $899 or $1,499A hand-coded site of one page, up to 3 pages or up to 8 pages, built from the words and photos you supply

The jump from one row to the next is mostly hours and headcount. A freelancer at the low end can do excellent work, and an agency's higher price pays for planning, project management and extra services. Neither price tells you on its own whether the site will be any good, so ask to see sites each provider has built and try them on your phone.

When a Sydney agency is worth the money

We'd rather you spend the right amount than spend it with us. A Sydney agency is the better choice if:

  • you need someone to write your words or photograph your business, neither of which we do;
  • you want workshops in your own office with the people building the site;
  • the website is one part of a larger project, such as linking a CRM or membership system across the business, and you want one firm managing all of it;
  • you want the same firm to run your SEO and paid advertising every month.

If you can supply your own words and photos, though, a large share of an agency quote pays for work you won't use. That's the gap our prices sit in.

Deposits versus paying on approval

Quotes also differ in when you pay. Some providers take payment in stages: one Sydney studio's published terms ask for 40% at kick-off, 30% at design approval and 30% at launch, which means 70% is paid before the site goes live. That's a fair arrangement for a provider carrying weeks of work, and many good studios use something like it.

We do it the other way round. There's no deposit. We build the draft, you ask for as many changes as you like, and you pay once you approve it. If you decide not to go ahead, you owe nothing. For an owner who has paid for a half-finished site before, that changes the risk more than the price does.

What a Sydney website costs to run each year

The build is paid once; running costs keep coming. The Sydney roundup lists managed hosting from a local studio at $40–$150 a month, agency maintenance plans at $100–$500 a month, small business SEO retainers at $400–$1,500 a month and a .com.au domain at $20–$50 a year. Over three years, a mid-range hosting and maintenance plan can cost more than the build did.

For sites we build, hosting is $30 a month after launch, with no contract. It includes security monitoring, backups, email support and unlimited text and image changes on your existing pages, so a new price list or a swapped photo doesn't turn into an hourly bill. We register your domain in your name for about $20 a year. We don't sell hosting on its own, and we don't sell SEO retainers or run ads.

So the first year of an eight-page site with us is $1,499 to build, $360 of hosting and about $20 for the domain: roughly $1,879, then about $380 a year after that.

Working with us from Sydney

We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, and we work with Sydney businesses by phone and email. There are no Sydney meetings to fit around your week: you send your words and photos, we send a draft link you can open on your phone, and you tell us what to change. New South Wales and South Australia start and end daylight saving on the same days, so Sydney is half an hour ahead of us all year.

Two of the sites in our portfolio are for Sydney businesses. Western Sydney Stump Grinding has a single-page site with two quote forms and tap-to-call, and it has landed at least 62 jobs, about $46,500 of work (read the case study). Resolve Forward, a family law dispute resolution practice in Sydney, has six service pages, priced packages linked to online booking and a five-step intake form. Their Google review says: “He was incredibly hands-on, always available to answer questions, and made every requested change promptly and without hesitation.”

Free help in NSW before you ask for quotes

If you're not sure yet what the site needs to do, the NSW Government's Small Business Advisory Program, run through the Service NSW Business Bureau, offers business owners up to four hours of free one-on-one sessions by phone, online or in person. An hour with an adviser about who your customers are and how they find you is a good way to turn a vague idea into a brief you can send to three providers and get comparable answers back.

How to compare Sydney quotes fairly

Send every provider the same brief, then check each quote against these questions:

  1. Is the price with or without GST?
  2. How many pages are included, and what goes on each one?
  3. Who writes the words, and who supplies the photos?
  4. How much do you pay before you see the finished site?
  5. What does hosting cost after the first year, and what does it cover?
  6. Are changes after launch included, or billed by the hour?
  7. Is the domain in your name, and can you move the site if you leave?
  8. How long will the build take once your content is in?

The longer version is in our guide to choosing a web design company, and the costs that hide inside cheap deals are in the hidden costs of a cheap website.

Sydney website cost questions

How much does a small business website cost in Sydney?

Published 2026 Sydney figures put a five-to-ten-page site at about $2,000–$6,000, freelancers at $2,500–$6,000 and agencies at $4,000 to $20,000 or more, with template builds from around $400. Our sites are $399, $899 or $1,499 depending on the number of pages, with no GST added.

Why are your prices so far below Sydney agency quotes?

We don't write copy, run photoshoots or sell SEO retainers, so none of that sits in the price. We hand-code each site, so there are no theme or plugin licences to pass on, and we work by phone and email from Adelaide rather than paying Sydney rent. Our prices are the same in every city.

Is it worth paying more for a web designer based in Sydney?

It can be, if meeting in person matters to you. Otherwise, most of a website project happens by email and on screen, whoever you hire. Our Sydney clients send their words and photos, check a draft link on their phone and ask for changes by phone or email.

Does a Sydney website quote include GST?

Check each one. Businesses with GST turnover of $75,000 or more must register and charge 10% GST, so many quotes say “+ GST”. WebCraft Studio isn't registered for GST, so nothing is added to our prices.

What does an online store cost in Sydney?

The Sydney roundup of published prices puts an online shop at $8,000 to $25,000 or more. Our hand-coded stores are $799 for up to 25 products with one payment gateway, or $1,999 for unlimited products, multiple payment options, customer accounts and advanced shipping. There's more in our custom store vs Shopify guide.

Can you add online bookings for a Sydney clinic or salon?

Yes. We build online booking and payment systems into a site and quote them per job, or we link the booking tool you already use, such as HotDoc, Cliniko, Fresha or Calendly.
