Website Design for Cake Makers and Bakeries

Websites for custom cake makers, home bakers and neighbourhood bakeries that show your cakes by occasion, take orders with the date, servings and a reference photo, and say exactly when and where to collect.

What a cake maker's or bakery's website needs

A custom cake is ordered for a date that can't move: a birthday party, a wedding, a christening. The customer looks through your gallery to see if your style fits, hunts for a rough price by size, then wants to know whether you can still take that weekend. A bakery's customers want simpler things: what's on the shelves today, the opening hours, and whether they can pre-order for Easter or Christmas.

  • A gallery sorted by occasion

Wedding cakes, kids' birthdays, cupcakes and decorated cookies, each in its own filtered group, with the servings and flavours noted under each photo. Someone planning a first birthday shouldn't have to scroll past forty wedding tiers to find one. We use your own photos and compress them so the gallery loads quickly on mobile data.

  • An order form built around the date

Pickup or delivery date first, then servings or size, flavour and filling, colours, the message to pipe on, allergies and a budget range. A file upload lets customers attach a reference picture or the party invitation to match. If custom work needs, say, two weeks' notice, the form can refuse earlier dates and point people to your ready-made range instead.

  • Starting prices by size

A short table of starting prices by tin size, tiers or servings, followed by what adds to the cost: sugar flowers, figurines, extra tiers, delivery and set-up. Customers who can see where prices begin tend to send requests that already match their budget, and the ones who can't stretch that far find out before they write.

  • Pickup and delivery, spelled out

Collection days and time windows, the suburb you bake in, delivery zones and fees, and venue set-up for wedding cakes. FSANZ gives foods containing egg and dairy as examples of potentially hazardous food, which must be kept at 5°C or colder, or 60°C or hotter, including in transport, so the delivery page can explain how cream and custard cakes travel and remind customers to refrigerate them on arrival.

  • Allergens and gluten-free wording

For cakes sold without a label, allergen details must be displayed or given when a customer asks, and packaged products that need a label must use the plain English allergen format that began on 25 February 2024. We list the dietary options you can make, leave out terms like “gluten friendly”, which Coeliac Australia says the Food Standards Code doesn't permit, and note whether your kitchen handles nuts if you choose to.

  • The daily range and seasonal pre-orders

For bakeries: opening hours, what comes out of the oven each day, when popular lines usually run out, and a pre-order page for hot cross buns, Christmas puddings or a weekly sourdough. Wholesale enquiries from cafes and restaurants get their own short form, so they don't end up among the birthday cake orders.

Our work, and the parts a cake site borrows

We haven't built a site for a bakery or cake maker yet, and we won't present another client as one. Two client sites show the features a cake business uses most: the Simple Engineers quote form takes photo and file uploads, and Queensland Dance & Performing Arts has a photo gallery visitors can filter, the way a cake gallery separates weddings from birthdays.

Home page of the Simple Engineers website

Simple Engineers

Professional services · Adelaide

Adelaide structural engineers, nothing to do with cakes. Their quote form shows an estimated fee range and lets customers attach up to five photos, plans or documents. On a cake order form, those uploads become the reference picture, the party invitation or the colour sample a customer wants matched.

Home page of the Queensland Dance & Performing Arts website

Queensland Dance & Performing Arts

Community, creative & tourism · Thorneside, Brisbane's Bayside

A dance school at Thorneside on Brisbane's Bayside. Its 12-page site has a filterable photo gallery, a weekly class timetable, FAQs and an online enrolment form. The same filterable gallery suits a cake portfolio split into weddings, birthdays, cupcakes and cookies.

“They were very helpful and envisioned exactly what I was wanting for my website.”

Questions cake makers and bakers ask us

Can customers order and pay online?

Yes, in two ways. A fixed range, such as cupcake boxes or celebration cakes in set sizes and flavours, can run as an online store: $799 covers up to 25 products with one payment gateway. Custom cakes suit an order form instead, and if you'd like a deposit taken once you confirm the design, we build that payment step into the site, quoted per job. If your order terms still mention a card fee, check them against the Reserve Bank's surcharging changes (opens in a new tab), which took effect for eftpos, Mastercard and Visa cards on 1 October 2026.

We bake from home. What should the website say?

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (opens in a new tab) says home-based food businesses, including those selling online, must notify their local council before they start, and the food safety standards apply however small the business. On the site we show your suburb rather than your street address, and the pickup address goes to customers once an order is confirmed. If you'd like your council registration mentioned, we add it in your words.

How do we stop last-minute orders?

Put your lead times in three places: beside the gallery, at the top of the order form and in the form's date picker, which can block dates sooner than your notice period. Then say what you can manage at short notice, such as a set flavour list or the cabinet range, so a customer who needs a cake this Saturday still has somewhere to go.

Can couples book a wedding cake tasting online?

Yes. A tasting can be booked through a scheduling tool you already use, such as Calendly, or we build booking into your site, quoted per job. The tasting page says how many flavours are included, whether the fee comes off the cake if they go ahead, and how far before the wedding couples should book.

Which package suits a cake business?

A home baker with a gallery and a handful of sizes can start on the one-page site at $399. Most cake makers are better served by the 3-page site at $899: the gallery and ordering details each get a full page. Bakeries with a daily range, wholesale customers and seasonal pre-orders fit the 8-page site at $1,499. If you'd rather sell set products online, our online stores start at $799.

Do you work with bakeries outside South Australia?

Yes. We're a web design team in Adelaide, at Ste 3/110 Hutt St, working with businesses across Australia by phone and email; our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. Send us your photos, price list and pickup details, and you'll see the full draft before paying anything.

Ready to start your cake or bakery website?

Send us your favourite cake photos, your starting prices and your pickup or delivery details. We'll quote it, build the draft, and you pay only once you've approved it.

We reply within 24 hours. Prefer email? info@webcraftstudio.com.au
