Canberra website prices, from $475 to $12,000 and up
We checked what Canberra providers published in October 2026, alongside the Canberra pages of a national cost-guide site and an online marketplace. The spread is wide because the packages are built on different assumptions about who writes the words, who hosts the site and how much design work is involved.
| Option | Published price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Canberra studio, starter | From $5,500, GST included | Typically 5–7 pages, custom design, written website content, search set-up and 12 months of hosting |
| The same studio, business package | From $8,800 | Usually 10–15 pages |
| The same studio, growth package | From $12,000 | Often 20 pages or more |
| Another Canberra agency | From $5,000, GST included | Price depends on pages, features and whether copywriting or photography is included |
| Designer serving Queanbeyan, Bungendore and Canberra, single page | $475 | Contact form, map and business email set-up; no search set-up; hosting, domain and SSL extra |
| The same designer, business site | From $950 | Blog, galleries and on-page search work; hosting, domain and SSL extra; maintenance $75 an hour |
| Canberra subscription service | $147 a month, no build fee | Design, hosting, backups and content changes; six-month minimum term |
| National cost guide, small business site | $2,000–$6,000 | 5–10 pages on an established platform |
| National cost guide, custom build | $6,000–$15,000 | Custom design, a content management system and speed work |
| Marketplace estimate, small business site | $1,200–$6,000 | 5–10 pages, basic search set-up |
| WebCraft Studio | $399, $899 or $1,499 | One page, up to 3 or up to 8 pages, coded by hand, no GST added |
Two of the providers say their prices include GST. The others, and both comparison sites, don't say either way, so ask before you put figures side by side.
Why the starting prices are so far apart
A $475 page and a $5,500 package aren't the same product at different margins. The studio package includes written content and a year of hosting, so you're buying a copywriter and a host along with the build. The $475 and $950 builds exclude hosting, a domain and an SSL certificate, and maintenance is charged at $75 an hour. Put all of that in before comparing.
A fair way to line quotes up is to ask each provider for the same three numbers: the build price, the cost of the first year, and the cost of each year after. Then note who supplies the words. With us the build is $399, $899 or $1,499, hosting is $30 a month after launch, and the domain is about $20 a year in your name. We don't write copy: you send the words, and we arrange them into pages. For a consultancy that already has a capability statement, or a practice with fees and service descriptions on file, that material is usually most of the way there.
Accessibility and government-facing work
The national cost guide describes Canberra's web market as institutional, with government suppliers, associations and firms serving the public sector prominent among the buyers. Its Canberra page says local providers price accessibility as explicit scope, and that it can push a government-facing brief into the $6,000–$15,000 band or higher. It calls accessibility procurement hygiene in Canberra, and says buyers notice whether a supplier meets the standards they have to meet themselves.
The standard behind it is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. WCAG 2.2, the current W3C version, has three conformance levels: A, AA and AAA. Federal agencies work to the Digital Service Standard, which asks them to meet the Disability Discrimination Act and the latest WCAG, and the Prime Minister's website, for example, says it aims to conform with WCAG 2.2 at level AA. That standard is written for agencies' own services, but a tender or contract can ask a supplier to meet a WCAG level too.
If yours does, write the requirement into your brief and ask every provider, including us, to say in writing which level they build and test to, how they test, and whether a written conformance report is in the price. An independent audit is specialist work, and if your contract needs one, budget for it separately. The cost guide also suggests asking whether accessibility retesting is part of any support plan, which matters if your pages change often.
Paying monthly instead: the three-year sums
A subscription spreads the cost. The Canberra service at $147 a month has no build fee and a six-month minimum, after which it runs month to month; it covers design, hosting, backups, security monitoring and content changes. That suits a business that would rather not find a lump sum at the start. Here's how it adds up over three years next to our prices:
| Item | Monthly plan | Our one page | Our up to 3 pages | Our up to 8 pages |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Build | $0 | $399 | $899 | $1,499 |
| 36 months of fees | $5,292 | $1,080 | $1,080 | $1,080 |
| Domain, about $20 a year | Not stated | $60 | $60 | $60 |
| Three years | $5,292 | About $1,539 | About $2,039 | About $2,639 |
The subscription page doesn't say whether GST is added, or whether you keep the site's files and design if you cancel; it says only that you own your domain. Ask both questions before signing any monthly plan. With us, the design and files are yours once the site is paid for, our $30 hosting has no contract, and if you leave we give you a copy of the files. Our guide to monthly plans versus paying upfront goes through the trade-offs in more detail.
The country's highest earnings, but average web prices
In May 2026 the ABS put full-time adult ordinary time earnings in the ACT at $2,290.20 a week, the highest of any state or territory and about 10% above the national $2,083.70. You might expect web design to cost more in Canberra as a result. The comparison sites don't show it. The marketplace says Canberra rates sit around $1,000, the same as its national average, and the cost guide's Canberra bands are the same figures it gives for Melbourne.
In practice, what moves a Canberra quote is the brief, not the postcode: written content, accessibility testing, integrations and the number of pages. That's also why our price is the same for a Belconnen cafe, a Kingston consultancy or a Queanbeyan trade.
When a Canberra studio is the better buy
A higher local quote is the right one in plenty of cases. Choose a studio that offers the extra work if:
- you need the words written for you, which the $5,500 studio package includes and we don't offer;
- you want professional photography of your team or premises, which we don't take on;
- a contract requires an independent accessibility audit or a formal conformance report;
- the site has to connect member logins, a CRM or several systems, which the cost guide prices at $15,000–$40,000 for an integrated site;
- you want face-to-face workshops in Canberra, or ongoing SEO and advertising managed for you.
For a trade, clinic, cafe or small consultancy that needs a clear site setting out its services, credentials and contact details, most of that goes beyond the job.
Free digital advice in the ACT
Before spending anything, the federal Digital Solutions program is worth a look. It runs free workshops, webinars and tutorials on topics such as social media, selling online, business software, AI and cyber security, and offers up to five hours of one-on-one advice for a small fee. It's for sole traders and businesses with fewer than 20 full-time-equivalent staff, and business.gov.au names the Canberra Innovation Network as the ACT provider. Check with them for current sessions and fees. Working out what the site must do, and for whom, makes quotes far easier to compare.
Working with us from Canberra
To be upfront, we don't have clients in the ACT yet. Our current clients are in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. Two of them show the kind of site professional firms in Canberra often need. Resolve Forward, a family law dispute resolution practice in Sydney, has six service pages, priced packages linked to online booking and a five-step intake form. Simple Engineers, structural engineers in Adelaide, have a quote form that shows fee ranges and takes file uploads. Both are in our portfolio.
Everything runs by phone and email from Ste 3/110 Hutt St, Adelaide. Canberra and Adelaide change their clocks on the same days, so Canberra is half an hour ahead all year. You get a draft link to check when it suits you and send changes until you're happy. Resolve Forward wrote in their Google review that we “made every requested change promptly and without hesitation.” You pay once you approve the draft, and owe nothing if you don't go ahead.

Canberra website cost questions
How much does a website cost in Canberra?
Published Canberra prices run from $475 for a single page with hosting extra, through $2,000–$6,000 for a typical 5–10 page small business site, to studio packages from $5,000, or from $5,500 with written content and a year of hosting. Ours are $399, $899 or $1,499 by page count, with no GST added.
Why do some Canberra studios start at $5,000 while others charge under $1,000?
They include different things. One studio's $5,500 package covers written content and a year of hosting; the cheapest builds leave out hosting, the domain and the SSL certificate, and charge maintenance by the hour. Compare the first-year total and who writes the words, not just the build price.
We sell to government agencies. Does that change what a website costs?
It can. A national cost guide says Canberra providers price accessibility as separate scope, which can lift a government-facing brief into the $6,000–$15,000 band or higher. If a tender or contract names a WCAG level, put it in your brief and ask each provider, including us, what testing the price covers.
Is a monthly website plan cheaper than paying upfront?
Over the first few months, yes; over three years, not in the case we checked. A $147-a-month Canberra plan comes to $5,292 over three years, against about $2,039 for our up-to-3-page site plus $30 monthly hosting and a domain. Check the minimum term and whether you keep the site if you leave.
Do you charge more for Queanbeyan or the NSW side of the border?
No. Our prices are the same in Queanbeyan, Canberra and anywhere else in Australia: $399 for one page, $899 for up to three and $1,499 for up to eight.
Do you have clients in Canberra?
Not yet. Our current clients are in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. Everyone outside Adelaide works with us by phone and email, which is how a Canberra project would run.
