Website Design for Tutors and Tutoring Centres

Websites for private tutors, online tutors and tutoring centres that tell a parent within a minute which subjects and year levels you teach, how lessons run, what a term costs and how to book a first session.

What a tutoring website needs to answer

Parents choosing a tutor are handing over an hour a week with their child, and usually arrive with one narrow question: Year 9 maths, help with an English essay, or a push before the senior exams. They want to see straight away whether you cover it, whether lessons are online, at home or at a centre, what it costs and who will be in the room.

  • Subjects and year levels, listed the way parents search

Maths, English, science and languages broken down by year level, plus the senior certificate you prepare students for: the HSC in NSW, the VCE in Victoria, the QCE in Queensland, SACE in South Australia or WACE in Western Australia. If you also run selective school or scholarship test preparation, NAPLAN practice or first-year university help, each gets a line of its own so a parent searching for it lands in the right place.

  • Child-safety screening stated plainly

Paid tutoring of children is generally child-related work: NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia require a Working with Children Check, and Queensland requires a blue card, or an exemption card for a registered teacher who tutors privately. NSW's Office of the Children's Guardian tells parents to check a tutor's clearance online, so the site says each tutor holds a current check and that you'll give families the details to verify it. Members of the Australian Tutoring Association, which requires a valid check and a police check, can say so alongside.

  • A trial lesson or assessment that's easy to book

If you start new students with a trial lesson or a short assessment, a button on every page opens your booking tool, or a request form asks for the year level, subject, school and the afternoons that suit, so you can match a tutor before you ring back. If you'd like term enrolments and payments taken on your own site, we can build that in; it's quoted per job.

  • Term fees, missed lessons and make-ups

Parents weigh the cost per lesson against the cost per term, so set out lesson length, one-on-one and small-group rates, whether fees are billed by term or by session, and what happens when a student is sick or a lesson is cancelled. Writing the policy down on the site gives you something to point to when it comes up mid-term.

  • Online lessons across time zones

Online tutors often teach families in other states. Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory don't use daylight saving, while NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT do, so a 4pm lesson shifts for some families every October and April. We label lesson times with the time zone, or use a booking tool that converts slots to the visitor's local time.

  • Results and tutor profiles you can stand behind

A centre may want to show ATARs, exam marks or selective school offers. Under the Australian Consumer Law a claim can't mislead, so results need to be genuine and described accurately, and a few standout marks shouldn't read as typical. Name a student or their mark only with their permission and a parent's. Tutor profiles do similar work more quietly: qualifications, subjects taught, years tutoring and, where it applies, teacher registration.

Education and enrolment sites we've built

We haven't built a site for a tutor or a tutoring centre yet. The nearest match is a Brisbane dance school, which, like a tutoring business, runs weekly classes for children from age 6, publishes its class times and takes enrolments online. For booking a first session, a Melbourne coaching practice shows how a booking link can sit on every page.

Home page of the Queensland Dance & Performing Arts website

Queensland Dance & Performing Arts

Community, creative & tourism · Thorneside, Brisbane's Bayside

Queensland Dance & Performing Arts teaches ballet, contemporary and circus arts to children from age 6 in Thorneside, along with adult ballet and a full-time diploma. Families can read up on each program, check class times in the weekly timetable, look through the FAQs and enrol online: the same pieces a tutoring centre needs for subjects, class times and term enrolments.

Home page of the Dr Tabara Dione Coaching website

Dr Tabara Dione Coaching

Professional services · Melbourne

One-on-one coaching for doctors, run by a Melbourne specialist anaesthetist. A discovery-call booking link is reachable from every page, which is how a tutor's trial-lesson button would work, and her about page lays out credentials the way a tutor profile would.

“From day one he was very professional and patient when making my website.”

Questions tutors ask us

Can parents book a trial lesson through the website?

Yes. If you already use a booking tool, every page gets a button that opens it, so your calendar stays in one place. If you'd rather take enrolments or term payments on your own site, we can build that too. Booking and payment work is quoted per job, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

Should we publish our Working with Children Check numbers?

That's your decision. You can list each tutor's check beside their profile, or state that every tutor who teaches children holds a current check and give parents the number when they enquire. Either way, the statement has to stay true: when a tutor joins or renews, send us the update, which counts as a text change under the $30 monthly hosting. Your state's screening agency is the place to confirm what you need.

Can we show student results and testimonials?

Yes, if they're genuine and you have permission from the student and, for anyone under 18, a parent. The ACCC's advertising and promotions guidance (opens in a new tab) explains that a business must not make false or misleading claims, and that applies to a results page as much as an ad. We lay out the results and testimonials you send exactly as given; we don't write or reword them.

Which package suits a tutoring business?

A solo tutor with one or two subjects fits the one-page site at $399. Most tutors and small centres suit the 3-page site at $899: home, subjects, and fees and policies. Centres with several tutors, exam programs or locations are better on the 8-page site at $1,499. A site that size takes 2–3 weeks once we have your words and photos.

Do we need photos of students?

No. Photos of children should only go up with a parent's permission, and a site works well with photos of your tutors, your rooms and the resources you use. We don't take photos, so we arrange the ones you send, cropped and sized so the pages load quickly on a phone.

Do you work with tutors outside Adelaide?

Yes. We're a web design team on Hutt St in Adelaide, South Australia, working with businesses Australia-wide by phone and email. Our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD, and a tutor in Perth or Hobart would work with us the same way.

Ready to start your tutoring website?

Send us your subject list, year levels, fees and how families book with you now. We'll quote it and build the draft, and you pay only once you've approved it.

We reply within 24 hours. Prefer email? info@webcraftstudio.com.au
