Website Design for Restaurants on the Gold Coast

For restaurants on Tedder Avenue in Main Beach, around the convention centre in Broadbeach, along James Street in Burleigh and through Southport's Chinatown, down to Coolangatta on the border: a site that takes the booking, gives conference groups and holiday crowds what they need to choose you, and sets out drinks and takeaway wine under Queensland's rules rather than the ones that apply across the line in Tweed Heads.

What a Gold Coast restaurant website has to cover

On one Saturday a Gold Coast restaurant site might be opened by an organiser booking dinner for forty conference delegates, a Sydney family staying in Surfers Paradise for the school holidays, and locals weighing up Burleigh against Nobby Beach. Most visitors won't know your street, plenty will arrive by tram or on foot, and some will be reading the hours on a NSW clock.

  • Group dinners for the convention centre

The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on the Gold Coast Highway at Broadbeach caters for up to 6,000 people. When a conference is in town, organisers and delegates go looking for somewhere nearby that can seat a group. A groups page that gives your largest table, set menus priced per head, the walk from the centre in minutes, and whether you can invoice a company gets that enquiry off to a proper start.

  • Queensland rules, even next door to NSW

Coolangatta and Tweed Heads sit either side of the state border, and their liquor laws differ. A Queensland restaurant holding the takeaway condition can sell up to 1.5 litres of wine per transaction, wine only, between 10am and 10pm. Over the border, a NSW Takeaway Sales Authorisation allows one sealed 750ml bottle of wine, up to six sealed containers of beer, cider or premix, or four house-made cocktails per order. A group with a venue on each side needs each venue's ordering page to follow its own state.

  • The nearest tram station, now further south

Since 9 August 2026 the G:link has carried passengers south from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads, with eight new stations including Mermaid Beach, Nobby Beach and Miami, so restaurants in those suburbs may now have a tram stop close by. Further north, Southport station stands at Chinatown's northern entrance, on the corner of Nerang and Davenport Streets. Name your station and the walk on the contact page, so a dinner booking doesn't hinge on finding a park.

  • No ID scan at the door, if that's true for you

Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach are both safe night precincts, where venues with permanent approval to trade past midnight must run networked ID scanners at each entry. Restaurants on a meals licence are exempt unless a licence condition says otherwise. A visitor who was scanned into a club the night before may expect the same at your door, so one sentence on the site settles it.

  • Footpath tables, and whether drinks go out there

Tables on a public footpath need City of Gold Coast's roadside dining permit, and pouring wine at them is a separate step: adding a footpath dining area to your licensed area takes an application to OLGR. If the outside tables are food only, or close earlier than the dining room, say so on the booking page, so a couple asking for an outdoor table at 8pm on a warm night knows what to expect.

  • The strip you're on, by name

Holiday-makers search by the suburb they're staying in. Main Beach centres on Tedder Avenue with its restaurants, cafes and boutiques; Burleigh's beach area centres on James Street; Chinatown in Southport, around Davenport and Young Streets, has Korean, Indonesian, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese restaurants alongside Chinese ones. Put the street and suburb in the page title, the opening line and your Google Business Profile, not just "Gold Coast".

Running a restaurant on the Gold Coast: liquor rules, precincts, conference trade and the border

Queensland's liquor rules for restaurants are explained on our Brisbane restaurants page, and they apply in Surfers Paradise exactly as they do in the Valley. In short: a restaurant on a meals licence may publish its normal drink prices online, but section 142ZZC of the Liquor Act keeps advertised happy hours, two-for-one deals and all-you-can-drink offers off websites and social media; each adult diner can leave with one opened and one unopened bottle of wine; and wine with takeaway meals needs its own licence condition. OLGR doesn't regulate BYO at restaurants, but Business Queensland (opens in a new tab) notes that some councils need to be told and may endorse it on your food licence, so check with City of Gold Coast before the site invites guests to bring a bottle.

Late nights and one-off events go through the liquor regulator. Surfers Paradise CBD and Broadbeach CBD are two of Queensland's 15 safe night precincts (opens in a new tab), where licensees can apply to trade until 3am; outside them, 2am is the limit. ID scanning (opens in a new tab) applies to precinct venues approved to trade past midnight permanently, and subsidiary on-premises (meals) licensees are on the exempt list unless their licence says otherwise. For a one-off event, a licensee can apply to temporarily extend its licensed area (opens in a new tab), which Business Queensland illustrates with extra patrons for New Year's Eve or a community festival, and a late-night extension (opens in a new tab) between midnight and 5am is available for a special occasion that someone other than the licensee wants to hold at the venue, on up to six dates a calendar year and one day a month, applying at least 21 days ahead. On a big weekend, such as the Supercars' Gold Coast 500 (opens in a new tab) on the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit, put any change to your hours, a set menu or a minimum spend on the site and in your Google Business Profile once it's confirmed.

Broadbeach draws a business crowd as well as holiday-makers. The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (opens in a new tab), at 2684–2690 Gold Coast Highway, holds up to 6,000 people and is joined to The Star Gold Coast by a covered walkway, and Broadbeach South station links trams with buses. The Queensland Government's Stage 3 extension (opens in a new tab) added 6.7 km of track and eight stations between Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads, among them Mermaid Beach, Nobby Beach and Miami. Further north, the City of Gold Coast led the streetscape works for Chinatown (opens in a new tab) in Southport, finished in 2014, with Paifang gateways completing the precinct in 2018. Main Beach (opens in a new tab) and Burleigh Heads (opens in a new tab) each centre on a street of cafes and restaurants, Tedder Avenue and James Street. Diners reach each of these places from a different direction, which is why a restaurant's directions need more than a street address.

At the southern end, Coolangatta meets Tweed Heads. The NSW Government (opens in a new tab) confirms Queensland doesn't use daylight saving, and NSW clocks run an hour ahead from 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027; our Gold Coast cafes page covers the effect on opening hours. For a restaurant it matters when someone across the border books a 6.30 table, so write Queensland time beside the hours and on the booking page. Liquor law changes at the border too. Under NSW rules a BYO restaurant needs no liquor licence (opens in a new tab), and a licensed one sells takeaway liquor (opens in a new tab) under a NSW authorisation rather than a Queensland condition. The Sydney restaurants page sets out the NSW side in full.

We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St and work with Gold Coast businesses by phone and email, with nobody based on the coast. No restaurant is among our clients yet. In Queensland we've built for M.J. Debney Plumbing & Gas and for Queensland Dance & Performing Arts on Brisbane's bayside. You send menus, the drinks list, photos and your booking link, we turn them into a draft you can check on your phone, and you pay once you approve it.

The closest examples we have

Neither is a restaurant. M.J. Debney Plumbing & Gas is a Queensland client whose single page shows how much a phone-first site can carry. Cape Fishing Charters, a tourism business in South Australia, takes booking and gift voucher requests from visitors who plan their day before they arrive, the way Gold Coast holiday-makers plan where they'll eat.

Trades & construction · Queensland

A licensed Queensland plumber and gas fitter. One page carries a six-service overview, a 13-photo gallery that swipes on a phone, testimonials, a protected contact form and tap-to-call. For a small restaurant, that page would hold the menu, photos of the room and the plates, reviews and one tap to ring for a table.

Questions from Gold Coast restaurant owners

We have restaurants in Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. Can one website cover both?

Yes. Each venue gets its own page with its own hours, menus and booking link, and the drinks details follow each state's law: the Queensland takeaway condition, wine only and 1.5 litres per transaction, for Coolangatta, and a NSW Takeaway Sales Authorisation for Tweed Heads. During NSW daylight saving, label the Coolangatta hours as Queensland time and the Tweed Heads hours as NSW time, so nobody turns up an hour early or late.

Can conference delegates book a group table through our site?

Yes. Your reservation system can keep handling smaller tables, and a groups form can collect the date, numbers, budget per head and dietary needs for larger ones, so you can reply with a set menu and terms. If you'd like deposits taken online, we can link the tool you already use or build booking and payment into the site, quoted for the job.

Can we advertise a sunset drinks special for holiday-makers?

An advertised discount on drinks is what Queensland's Liquor Act rules out: licensees can't advertise free drinks, multiple quantities or promotions suggesting drinks are cheaper than usual, and electronic advertising counts. A meals-licensed restaurant can publish its normal drinks list with prices, beside a photo of the view. The detail is on our Brisbane restaurants page; check Business Queensland's guidance (opens in a new tab) before an offer goes online.

We serve wine at our footpath tables in Burleigh. What should the site say?

Whether drinks can be served outside, and until what time. Tables on public land need City of Gold Coast's roadside dining permit, and serving liquor there needs the footpath area included in your licensed area, which takes an application to OLGR. Once both are in place, the booking page can offer outdoor tables with drinks; until then, describe the outside tables as they are.

Our restaurant is in Southport's Chinatown. What helps visitors find us?

Name Southport light rail station, at the precinct's northern entrance on Nerang and Davenport Streets, and give the walk in minutes. Use Chinatown, Southport and your street together in the page title and your Google listing, so someone searching from a hotel room in Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach can see exactly where you are and how to get there.

How does an Adelaide team work with a Gold Coast restaurant?

By phone and email. We're an Adelaide web design team with current clients in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. One call covers menus, groups and your licence; you email the words and photos; we send a draft to review between services, change it as often as you ask, and you pay once you approve it. Most sites are live within 5–10 days of us getting your words and photos; bigger sites (up to 8 pages) take 2–3 weeks.

Ready to start your Gold Coast restaurant website?

Tell us your suburb, send your menus and drinks list, a few photos and your booking link, and let us know what kind of liquor licence you hold. We'll quote and build the draft, and you owe nothing until you approve it.
