The City of Gold Coast is the second most populous council area in Queensland, after Brisbane, and is split into 14 divisions. Logan sits to its north, the Scenic Rim to the west and Tweed Shire, in New South Wales, to the south. Unlike Brisbane, where Urban Utilities runs water and sewerage, the Gold Coast council provides those services itself.
Plumbing, drainage and gas fitting all need a QBCC licence at any value. Endorsements cover specialist work such as backflow prevention, thermostatic mixing valves, solar and heat pump hot water installation and fire protection, and customers can check a plumber’s licence on the QBCC’s online register. Gas fitters also need a separate occupational licence for gas work from the Chief Gas Examiner through Resources Safety and Health Queensland. For advertising, the QBCC wants the name your licence is held under, the licence number and a statement that you’re licensed under the QBCC Act, and it counts websites and social media pages just as it counts the side of your van. The QBCC logo can’t be used.
Backflow testing follows Queensland’s plumbing laws rather than a Gold Coast rule. Testable backflow prevention devices are registered with the local council, and the owner has to have each one inspected or tested at least once a year by a licensee holding the backflow endorsement, who then reports the results to council. Given the apartment towers and commercial buildings along the coast, a backflow section written for building managers and business owners is worth adding if you hold the endorsement.
The border is the Gold Coast’s own complication. Tweed Heads, Coolangatta’s twin town, is in New South Wales, which runs its own trade licensing through Building Commission NSW. Before your site offers plumbing in Tweed Heads or Banora Point, check with Building Commission NSW what you’d need to work there; until then, we leave those suburbs off. If you do work both sides, state your hours in Queensland time, because NSW runs daylight saving from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April and Queensland doesn’t.
We’re an Adelaide web design team at Hutt St, working with Queensland businesses by phone and email. You send your services, the suburbs you cover and your licence details, we send a draft link you can check on your phone, and you ask for changes the same way. You pay nothing until you approve it.
