How Much Does a Website Cost in Wollongong?
An Illawarra web designer publishes $950 for a site of up to five pages and $1,950 with a booking system, while a national cost guide says most Wollongong small businesses pay $2,000–$6,000. Here's why the figures sit so far apart, what the pull of Sydney does to local quotes, and what we charge.

Wollongong website prices, as published in October 2026
We looked at what the web businesses selling to Wollongong owners show before you ask for a quote. One Illawarra designer lists three packages on its site. A Wollongong-based studio quotes every job individually. A Newcastle studio has a page for Wollongong clients, and an online marketplace and a national cost guide both publish Wollongong estimates. This is how the numbers stood in October 2026:
| Option | Published price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Illawarra designer, basic site | From $950 | A static site of up to 5 pages, with no booking system or store; hosting and domain fees extra |
| The same designer, standard site | From $1,950 | Up to 9 pages with interactive features, a booking system and a blog |
| The same designer, premium site | From $2,950 | 10 or more pages with an online store, ticketing and booking |
| Wollongong-based studio | Quote only | An itemised quote before work starts, with payment plans available |
| Newcastle studio with a Wollongong page | Websites from $990; managed hosting from $50 a month | Says Wollongong clients pay its Newcastle prices |
| Marketplace estimate, landing page | $600–$3,600 | A single page built to win enquiries |
| Marketplace estimate, small business site | $1,440–$7,200 | 5 to 10 pages, basic search set-up, mobile-friendly |
| Marketplace estimate, custom site | $6,000–$18,000 | 10 to 20 pages of custom design, with copywriting |
| National cost guide, typical Wollongong small business | $2,000–$6,000 | 5 to 10 pages on an established platform |
| National cost guide, integrated site | $15,000–$40,000 | Bookings, member areas and CRM connections |
| WebCraft Studio | $399, $899 or $1,499 | One page, up to 3 or up to 8 pages, coded by hand, no GST added |
None of the Illawarra prices says whether GST is in or out, so ask before you compare. If a GST-registered provider shows its price before tax, a $1,950 package costs $2,145 to a business that isn't registered and so can't claim the GST back. We aren't registered for GST, so nothing is added to ours.
Sydney prices, Illawarra prices
Wollongong is about 85 km south of Sydney, and around 20,000 people travel from the city to Sydney jobs each day by road and rail. Web design moves along the same corridor: Illawarra owners collect quotes from Sydney studios, and Sydney studios pitch for Illawarra work.
The two published estimates read that differently. The marketplace puts the typical Wollongong web design rate at about $1,200, above its $1,000 national figure, and every band on its Wollongong page matches its Sydney page exactly, which suggests the estimates aren't drawn from Wollongong quotes in particular. The cost guide argues the other way. It says Sydney is close enough that metro quotes are always in play, that local providers price knowing it, and that Illawarra quotes cluster lower as a result, although the bands it prints are its national ones.
The one local price list we found supports the cost guide. $950 for up to five pages sits below the bottom of both estimates for a site of that size. If a Sydney studio quotes well above a local designer for the same number of pages, ask what the difference buys. Written content, photography, a content management system you'll edit yourself or a planning workshop can each be worth the money. A Sydney postcode on the invoice isn't.
From steel suppliers to start-ups: what lifts a Wollongong quote
The cost guide's Wollongong page ties the spread in prices to the kind of business asking. Health, hospitality and local services generally fit its standard bands. Industrial and engineering firms often need capability sites with project pages and credentials a buyer can check, which moves them into its $6,000–$15,000 custom tier. Tech and research ventures linked to the university may need technical writing, diagrams and downloadable papers. Its Wollongong examples show the range:
- a gym or studio open-day page, with offer copy, a sign-up form and ad tracking: $800–$3,000;
- a research venture's product, team and partner pages: $6,000–$15,000;
- the same venture with demo bookings or an investor area connected to a CRM: $15,000–$40,000.
The guide lists what pushes a figure up: project pages, technical content, photography and connected systems. Supplying approved words and images, and sending the same written brief to every studio, pulls it back down and makes the quotes comparable.
Firms that supply the BlueScope steelworks and the port at Port Kembla, such as fabricators, electrical contractors and transport companies, mostly need a site that shows what they do, the certifications they hold and jobs they've finished. With us that fits in up to 8 pages for $1,499, as long as the technical detail comes from you, because we arrange your content rather than write it. Simple Engineers, an Adelaide structural engineering client, has four service pages, 16 articles and a quote form that shows fee ranges and accepts file uploads.
The booking line in an Illawarra quote
Booking is where Wollongong quotes differ most. The Illawarra designer leaves it out of its $950 basic site and includes a booking system from its $1,950 standard site. The cost guide counts bookings among the features of its $15,000–$40,000 integrated tier. Both can be right, because a form that requests an appointment and a system that takes payment, sends reminders and talks to practice software are very different pieces of work.
Before comparing two quotes that both mention booking, ask each provider:
- whether the booking tool has its own monthly subscription, and who pays it;
- whether customers can pay when they book, and what each transaction costs you;
- whether you can take your bookings and customer list with you if you change provider.
We handle booking in one of two ways. If you already use HotDoc, Cliniko, Fresha, Calendly or OpenTable, we link it from every page, whichever package you choose. If you want booking and payment built into the site itself, we quote that per job once we know how your appointments, classes or sessions work. Resolve Forward, a Sydney mediation practice, has priced packages on its site that lead straight to online booking.
Hosting and changes: three years of a five-page site
Running costs vary as much as build prices. The Illawarra designer estimates domain, hosting and maintenance at $10–$50 a month and charges for maintenance as a one-off job each time, with no retainer. The Wollongong-based studio prices hosting by the size and traffic of the site and includes backups, SSL and support in every plan. The Newcastle studio's managed hosting starts at $50 a month. Nationally, the cost guide puts care plans at $50–$300 a month and hourly work at $80–$250.
| Option | Build | 36 months running | Three-year total | Changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Illawarra designer, basic | $950 | $360–$1,800, including the domain | $1,310–$2,750 | Charged per job |
| Newcastle studio | From $990 | From $1,800 | From $2,790 | Not stated |
| WebCraft Studio, up to 8 pages | $1,499 | $1,080, plus about $60 for the domain | $2,639 | Text and image changes on existing pages included |
Read it fairly. If your site will rarely change, the Illawarra designer's basic package can cost less over three years than our eight-page site, and that's a sensible choice for a business whose details stay put. If you change prices, staff, menus, timetables or photos often, per-job charges add up, while our $30 a month includes unlimited text and image changes on your existing pages. New pages or features are quoted first, there's no contract and you can cancel anytime. If three pages will do, our site is $899, or $1,979 over three years before the domain.
When an Illawarra provider is the better choice
A local designer, or a bigger Sydney agency, can be the better buy. Consider one if:
- you want to sit down with your designer in person, which we can't offer, since every project we run outside Adelaide is handled by phone and email;
- you sell tickets to events and want ticketing in a package from day one, as the local premium site lists;
- you want the words written for you, as the marketplace's custom band includes, because the words on our sites come from you;
- you want the same firm to run your SEO or advertising every month after launch.
For most trades, clinics, gyms, cafes and local services between Thirroul and Dapto, none of that is needed. A quick site that lists your services and suburbs, shows real photos of your work and makes it easy to call or ask for a quote does the job.
Working with us from Wollongong
We're an Adelaide team at Ste 3/110 Hutt St and work with Illawarra businesses by phone and email. We don't have a client in the Illawarra yet. Our New South Wales clients include Tomi's Bobcat and Excavation in South Pambula, further down the coast, whose one-page site has a swipeable 42-photo gallery and a contact form, and Phoenix Housekeeping in Lake Macquarie. Michael Debney, a Queensland plumber and gas fitter we built a one-page site for, wrote in his Google review: “They created the site very promptly and cost efficient.”
The process is the same for every client outside Adelaide. You email your words and photos, we send a link to a working draft, and you ask for changes until it's right. Most sites are live within 5–10 days of us getting your words and photos; bigger sites (up to 8 pages) take 2–3 weeks. You pay once you approve the draft, and if you decide not to go ahead, you owe nothing. If you don't have a logo, we'll help with one at no charge.

Wollongong website cost questions
How much does a website cost in Wollongong?
Published Illawarra prices start at $950 for up to five pages, plus hosting and domain fees. A national cost guide says most Wollongong small businesses pay $2,000–$6,000, and an online marketplace estimates $1,440–$7,200 for 5 to 10 pages. Ours are $399, $899 or $1,499 by page count, with no GST added.
Are Sydney web designers dearer than Wollongong ones?
Often, though not always. A national cost guide says Illawarra quotes tend to sit lower because Sydney quotes are always in play, while one marketplace uses identical estimates for both cities. Compare quotes for the same pages and ask what any gap covers. We charge the same in Wollongong as in Sydney.
Does online booking add to the price?
It depends on the provider and on what the booking has to do. One Illawarra designer includes a booking system from its $1,950 package, and a national cost guide puts sites with bookings in its $15,000–$40,000 tier. We can link a booking tool you already use from any of our packages, or quote booking and payments built into the site per job.
What does a Wollongong website cost to run after launch?
With us, $30 a month covers hosting, security monitoring, backups, email support and unlimited text and image changes on your existing pages, plus about $20 a year for the domain. One Illawarra designer estimates $10–$50 a month and charges maintenance per job, and a Newcastle studio's hosting starts at $50 a month.
We supply the steelworks. Is a $1,499 site enough?
For most suppliers, yes. Up to 8 pages covers your services, capabilities, certifications, project examples and a quote form that accepts drawings. You supply the technical detail and photos, and we arrange them into the pages. If you need tender responses or capability statements written for you, a larger agency is the better fit.
Do we pay a deposit?
No. We build the draft first, you ask for as many changes as you like, and you pay once you approve it. The national cost guide says a 30–50% deposit with staged payments is usual in Australian web design, so check the payment terms on any other quote you get.
