Website Design for Tradies in Wollongong

Websites for sparkies, plumbers, builders and other trades working the Illawarra, from Helensburgh and the northern suburbs down through Dapto to Shellharbour and Kiama. Your NSW licence details, the areas you cover and one-tap calling, on a site that opens quickly on a phone.

What an Illawarra tradie's website has to cover

The Illawarra is a long, narrow run of suburbs squeezed between the escarpment and the sea, so one of the first things a homeowner wants to know is whether you come as far as their end of it. After that they want proof you're licensed, signs you've done their kind of job before, and a number they don't have to hunt for.

  • Your licence number, with the right category

NSW's building advertising rules cover internet advertising, so your website counts. If you advertise residential building work over the Home Building Act's dollar threshold, or electrical, plumbing, draining, gasfitting or air-conditioning and refrigeration work of any value, the licensee's name (or your registered business name) and the contractor licence number need to appear, with the correct category of work. We put those details in the footer of every page and again beside the quote form.

  • Areas listed north to south

Instead of "Wollongong and surrounds", we set out the areas you cover in the order they sit on the map: the northern suburbs from Helensburgh through Austinmer and Bulli, central Wollongong, the suburbs around Lake Illawarra and Dapto, then Shellharbour and Kiama. A customer finds their patch in a couple of seconds, and you stop fielding calls from places you don't go.

  • A section for new owners around West Dapto

The NSW Government describes West Dapto as one of the state's fastest-growing residential areas outside Sydney, and its first two stages are still being built out. If you do the work new owners need early, such as fencing, landscaping, driveways, solar, air-conditioning or security screens, a short section written for them picks up enquiries that a general services list misses.

  • Bigger jobs up the coast, kept separate

Plenty of Illawarra trades will drive north for a large job but not for a dripping tap. If that's you, the site lists your everyday area first, then says in one line which larger jobs you'll travel for. People outside your usual patch know where they stand before they pick up the phone.

  • One tap from search to your phone

Many people who find you will be on a phone, some of them straight from Google Maps. Your number sits at the top of every page as a button, and the quote form asks only for name, phone, suburb and a line about the job, with room for a photo, so it can be sent from the driveway.

  • After-hours rules in writing

If you take after-hours or weekend calls, say when, and what costs extra, even in one sentence. If you don't, say that too. It heads off the 9pm call from someone expecting an emergency rate you don't offer, and reassures the customers you do want to hear from.

Licensing, councils and growth areas: what's different in the Illawarra

Building and trade licences in NSW are managed by Building Commission NSW, and the advertising rules come from the Home Building Act 1989. You can't advertise residential building work above the Act's dollar threshold, or specialist work (electrical wiring, plumbing, draining, gasfitting, and air-conditioning and refrigeration) of any value, without a current contractor licence, and the licensee's name and licence number must appear in all advertising. A registered business name can be shown instead of the licensee's name. The NSW Government's guidance lists the internet among the media these rules cover, and asks for the licence number with the correct category of work and a business phone number. Customers can look you up on the Service NSW licence check by name, licence number or licence type, so we use exactly the name and number the register shows.

Wollongong City Council's area is a narrow coastal strip running from Helensburgh in the north to Windang and Haywards Bay in the south, with the escarpment as its western edge. Shellharbour and Kiama are separate councils, and together with Shoalhaven and Wollongong they make up the Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation. Because one council covers the whole run from Helensburgh to Windang, "Wollongong" on its own doesn't tell a customer much about where you'll go. Your service-area section should name the suburbs, group them by stretch of coast, and be clear about where you stop.

West Dapto is an urban release area that the NSW Government calls one of the state's fastest-growing residential areas outside Sydney. Its first two stages were rezoned in 2010 and are still under development. In March 2024 most of stage three was rezoned for up to 2,275 homes, and in December 2024 the remaining part, the Cleveland Road precinct, was rezoned for 225 more. New houses keep needing trades well after handover, from landscaping and fencing to extra power points and air-conditioning. If that's work you want, name West Dapto on your site and show a job or two from the new estates.

We're an Adelaide team, and everything with Illawarra clients happens by phone and email. You send your services, suburbs, licence details and photos. We build a draft you can open on your phone and show whoever you like, you ask for changes until it's right, and you pay once you approve it. Our NSW trade clients include Western Sydney Stump Grinding and Tomi's Bobcat and Excavation in the Bega Valley, so we've built for NSW trades whose service areas stretch a long way before.

NSW trade websites we've built

Two NSW trade sites: a tree service in Western Sydney and an excavation business in the Bega Valley. Both serve customers spread over a wide area, and both put calling or quoting one tap away on a phone.

Home page of the Western Sydney Stump Grinding & Tree Removal website

Western Sydney Stump Grinding & Tree Removal

Trades & construction · Western & Greater Sydney

A family-owned tree service covering Western and Greater Sydney, including 24/7 emergency jobs. We built one page with two quote forms, tap-to-call throughout, customer reviews and a plain list of the areas it services. It's the site behind the results in the case study below.

Home page of the Tomi's Bobcat and Excavation website

Tomi's Bobcat and Excavation

Trades & construction · South Pambula & Bega Valley

Bobcat and excavator operators doing structural landscaping, licensed pool building and earthworks across the Bega Valley. We built a one-page site with three service sections, a 42-photo gallery that swipes on a phone, a testimonial carousel and a contact form with a thank-you page.

“From day one he was very professional and patient when making my website. I have so many clients coming through from it, truly amazing.”

Questions Illawarra tradies ask us

Do you build websites for Wollongong tradies when you're based in Adelaide?

Yes. We're a web design team in Adelaide, South Australia, and we work with businesses Australia-wide by phone and email; current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD. We don't visit job sites or meet in person. You send the details and photos, we send a draft link you can check on your phone, and you pay only once you approve it. We reply within 24 hours.

What does NSW law say a tradie's website has to show?

If you advertise residential building work, or specialist work such as electrical, plumbing, draining, gasfitting or air-conditioning, NSW requires the licensee's name (or a registered business name) and the contractor licence number in the advertisement, and your website counts. The NSW Government's guidance also asks for the correct licence category and a business phone number. We copy the details exactly as they appear on the Service NSW licence check.

We work Wollongong and Shellharbour but rarely go to Kiama. How should the site handle that?

List the suburbs you cover for everyday jobs, grouped by stretch of coast, then add a line such as "Kiama for larger jobs only" if that's how you work. It beats a vague "Illawarra-wide" claim that brings in calls you'll only turn down. Changing the list later is a text change on an existing page, covered by the $30 monthly hosting.

Is it worth having a section about West Dapto?

If you do work new homeowners need, yes. The NSW Government describes West Dapto as one of the fastest-growing residential areas in NSW outside Sydney, and stage three was rezoned in 2024 for about 2,500 more homes. A short section that names it, with a photo of a job in one of the new estates, tells those owners you already work nearby. On a 3-page or 8-page site it can have a page of its own.

Should the site mention jobs in Sydney's south?

Only if you want them. If you'll head north for bigger work, say which jobs and roughly how far, separately from your everyday area. That's a question of whether the drive suits you, and the site should say so plainly to save both sides a wasted call.
