How Much Does a Website Cost in Ballarat?

A Ballarat-based provider publishes $1,000 for five pages and $3,000 for ten with a shop, and a marketplace puts Ballarat rates about a fifth under the national figure. Here's what the published prices cover, what you pay once the included support runs out, and where our fixed prices sit.

Ballarat website prices, as published in October 2026

Only a handful of the web businesses that take on Ballarat work show a price before you ask for a quote. The table puts together the ones we could check: a provider based in Ballarat, a Newcastle studio with a page for Ballarat businesses, an online marketplace's Ballarat estimates and, because the national cost-guide site we use for other cities has no Ballarat page, its Melbourne figure for comparison. None of the Ballarat figures says whether GST is included.

The marketplace describes its figures as estimates built from regional averages, so treat them as a guide to the spread rather than a quote. The provider prices are starting points; the final figure depends on what's in your brief.

Is a Ballarat website cheaper than a Melbourne one?

On the published numbers, a little. The marketplace says web design rates in Ballarat run at around $800, against $1,000 nationally, and every project price band it lists for Ballarat is four-fifths of the matching band on its Canberra page, where it says rates align closely with the national average. Its Ballarat small business range of $960 to $4,800 compares with $1,200 to $6,000 there.

The gap shows most at the cheap end. The Ballarat-based starter at $1,000 for five pages is half the bottom of the cost guide's $2,000–$6,000 Melbourne band for a site of that size. Higher up, the difference is less clear. The Newcastle studio says it charges Ballarat businesses exactly what it charges at home, which suggests that providers selling from elsewhere price by the job rather than by the client's town.

Plenty of Ballarat owners will collect a Melbourne quote as well as a local one. If the Melbourne figure is higher for the same page count, ask what the difference pays for. It may be written content, photography, a strategy workshop or a content management system, and any of those can be worth paying for. If it's none of them, you're paying for the postcode.

What you pay once the support period runs out

The Ballarat-based packages include 30 or 90 days of support, and neither lists hosting. That's typical of a build price: it covers launch and a window of fixes, and after that someone has to host the site, back it up, keep it secure and make your changes. The marketplace's Ballarat page gives these ranges for that upkeep:

Running costs after launch: Ballarat estimates and our terms
ItemMarketplace estimate for BallaratWith us
Hosting$20–$120 a month$30 a month, which also covers the rows below
Basic maintenance: updates, security patches, backups$50–$400 a monthSecurity monitoring and backups included in the $30
Text and image changesNot priced; usually per hour or per planUnlimited on existing pages, included in the $30
Domain name$25–$80 a yearAbout $20 a year, registered in your name

The same page lists ongoing maintenance as high as $1,000 a month among its hidden costs, and the Newcastle studio's managed hosting starts at $50 a month. Ask every provider what the site costs in month four, not just on day one. With us, new pages or new features are quoted before we start them, there's no contract and you can cancel anytime. Lockyer Valley Batteries put the hosting side of it plainly in a Google review: “Rebuilt two websites for our businesses and saved us a fortune on hosting etc.”

Words and photos: the costs nobody puts in the package

Two costs often sit outside a Ballarat quote. The marketplace says some designers charge $120 to $300 a page for copywriting, and puts stock photos at $25 to $120 an image. Its custom band includes copywriting, which is part of why that band starts at $4,000. On an eight-page site, bought-in copy at those rates comes to $960–$2,400, and the top of that range is more than our whole build at that size.

We don't write copy or take photos. You send your words and photos, and we arrange and format them into the pages, fix the layout around them and make them read well on a phone. Most owners have more material than they think: the services list from a quote template, the answers they give on the phone every week, a few lines about how long they've been working around Ballarat. Phone photos of finished jobs, your van, your shopfront on Sturt Street or your team at work are better than stock images of strangers.

If writing is the part you dread, a provider whose price includes copy may be the better deal for you, even at a higher figure. Compare the total, not the build price on its own. If you don't have a logo yet, we'll help with one at no charge.

Matching the size of the site to the business

Our price depends on the number of pages and nothing else, so the useful question is how many pages your business needs:

  • One page, $399. Suits a sole trader or a new business: what you do, the suburbs you cover from Wendouree and Alfredton to Sebastopol and Delacombe, photos, reviews, an enquiry form and tap-to-call.
  • Up to 3 pages, $899. A clinic, cafe or salon: a home page, a services or practitioners page, and contact details with hours and a map. If you already book through HotDoc, Cliniko or Fresha, we link it from every page.
  • Up to 8 pages, $1,499. A trade or service covering the city and the towns around it, such as Creswick, Buninyong and Daylesford, with a page for each area or service so people searching from those towns find a page about them.

Selling online is priced separately: $799 for a store of up to 25 products with one payment gateway and basic order management, or $1,999 for unlimited products, several payment options, customer accounts and advanced shipping. If customers need to pick a time and pay as they book, we build online booking and payment systems into the site and quote them per job once we know how your bookings work.

Free help in Ballarat before you brief anyone

The City of Ballarat runs a Business Concierge Service, which business.gov.au lists as free. Its listing says the service guides people through starting, expanding or buying a business, and the council's Economic Development Team takes calls on 03 5320 5500. If you're opening premises or taking on staff, knowing the order things need to happen in also tells you when the website has to be ready.

For the digital side, the federal Digital Solutions program offers free workshops and webinars on topics such as selling online, social media and cyber security, plus up to five hours of one-on-one advice for a small fee. It's open to sole traders and businesses with fewer than 20 full-time-equivalent staff, and business.gov.au names the Melbourne Innovation Centre as the Victorian provider. Check current sessions and fees with them. An hour spent working out what your site needs to do makes every quote easier to compare.

Working with us from Ballarat

We don't have clients in Ballarat yet. The Victorian client in our portfolio is Dr Tabara Dione Coaching in Melbourne, a coaching practice for doctors, whose site has a services overview, an about page covering her credentials, a contact form and online booking for a discovery call linked from every page. You can open it, and our other client sites, from our portfolio.

A Ballarat project runs the same way as every project outside Adelaide: you email your words and photos, we send a link to a working draft, and you ask for changes by phone or email until it's right. Most sites are live within 5–10 days of us getting your words and photos; bigger sites (up to 8 pages) take 2–3 weeks. You pay only once you've approved the draft. If you decide not to go ahead, you owe nothing.

Ballarat website cost questions

What does a small business website cost in Ballarat?

A Ballarat-based provider publishes $1,000 for five pages and $3,000 for up to ten pages with e-commerce. A marketplace estimates $960 to $4,800 for a 5–10 page small business site in Ballarat and $4,000 to $12,000 for a custom site with copywriting. Ours are $399, $899 or $1,499 by page count, with no GST added.

Should we use a Ballarat web designer or a Melbourne one?

Either can work, since most of a website project happens by email and on screen. Published Ballarat prices start lower than Melbourne's, so if a Melbourne quote is higher for the same number of pages, ask what the extra covers. We're in Adelaide and charge the same in Ballarat as in Melbourne or anywhere else.

What happens after the 30 or 90 days of support in some packages?

Usually you move to a hosting or maintenance plan, or pay by the hour for changes. Ask for those prices before you sign. With us, hosting is $30 a month after launch and covers security monitoring, backups, email support and unlimited text and image changes on your existing pages, with no contract.

We don't have a logo or any website copy yet. Can we still start?

Yes. We'll help with a logo at no charge. The words need to come from you, because we don't write copy, but they can be rough: a list of services, the areas you cover and how people contact you is enough to start, and we shape it into pages.

Can patients book online through a Ballarat clinic's site?

Yes. If you already use a booking tool such as HotDoc, Cliniko or Fresha, we link it from your pages. If you want booking and payment built into the site itself, we quote it per job once we know how your appointments work.

Do you have clients in Ballarat?

Not yet. Our current clients are in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, and the Victorian client in our portfolio is in Melbourne. Everyone outside Adelaide works with us by phone and email, which is how a Ballarat project would run.
