Website Design for Tradies in Perth

Websites for Perth and Peel trades that show the licence or registration number WA asks for, make clear how far north, south or into the hills you'll travel, and put a call button at the top of every page.

What a Perth trade website needs

Perth's suburbs run a long way up and down the coast and out to the hills, and few trades cover the lot. A customer wants to see straight away whether you come to them, whether you're licensed in WA, and whether getting you out there will cost extra.

  • The right number, in the right format

WA has separate advertising rules for registered builders and painters, electrical contractors and plumbing contractors, and each scheme issues its own number. Electrical contractor licences carry an EC prefix, for example. We show each number you hold in the footer of every page, labelled, beside the business name it's issued to.

  • A clear travel line

Say where you stop. Joondalup to Fremantle, and the hills for bigger jobs tells a customer far more than Perth metro, and it saves you answering calls from places you won't drive to.

  • Travel charges stated once

If jobs on the edge of your area carry a travel or call-out charge, one plain line on the site takes the awkward part out of the first call. If they don't, saying so is a reason for someone further out to pick you.

  • Quotes that start with the suburb

Asking for the suburb before anything else lets you see in a second whether a job fits your run that week. The rest of the form stays short: name, phone, what the job is, and a photo if they have one.

  • Reviews from across your area

A review from a customer in Baldivis and another from Ellenbrook show a new customer that you really do travel the distance you claim. We place two or three near the top of the page, with a link to the rest of your Google reviews.

  • Bushfire-prone areas, if you build there

If you build or extend homes in mapped bushfire-prone areas, say so, and explain how you handle BAL assessments and building to the assessed rating. Owners there are already dealing with it and want a builder who knows the process.

Licensing, distance and bushfire areas around Perth

Who licenses WA trades. Building and Energy, part of the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety, registers builders and painters and supports the two boards that license the other main trades: the Plumbers Licensing Board and the Electrical Licensing Board. Customers can check any of these licences and registrations with Building and Energy's online licence search.

What has to appear in your advertising. Section 8 of the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011 requires registered builders and painters to include their registration number in advertisements, and Building and Energy lists website advertisements among its examples. Under regulation 45 of the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991, an electrical contractor's licence number has to be conspicuously displayed in any advertisement for the contracting business. Licensed plumbing contractors must show their licence number in any advertisement too, under regulation 25 of the Plumbers Licensing and Plumbing Standards Regulations 2000. We put each number you hold in the footer of every page and beside the contact details.

The distance problem. The state government notes that the Perth and Peel regions now stretch more than 150 km, from Two Rocks in the north to Bouvard in the south. Its long-term plan, Perth and Peel@3.5million, splits the region into four sub-regions: Central, North-West (the cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo), North-East and South Metropolitan Peel. They make a sensible frame for a service-area section: a heading for each sub-region you cover, the suburbs you want work from underneath, and a line on where you stop.

Bushfire-prone areas. WA's bushfire-prone areas are designated by the Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner and shown on the state's map of bushfire-prone areas. Depending on the site and the work, building a home or a substantial addition in one of them can need a BAL (bushfire attack level) assessment. Builders and renovators who work in those areas should say so on their site, because it's one of the first questions an owner there will have.

Working with an Adelaide team. We work with Perth businesses by phone and email. Adelaide is an hour and a half ahead of Perth, or two and a half while South Australia is on daylight saving, so most of your working day overlaps with ours. Our current clients are in SA, NSW, VIC and QLD; we haven't built for a WA business yet, so the examples below are from other states.

Trade sites we've built in other states

We haven't built for a WA tradie yet. These two are the closest match for a Perth business covering a lot of ground: an excavation business working across the Bega Valley in NSW, and an Adelaide painting company that covers the whole of South Australia.

“They were very helpful and envisioned exactly what I was wanting for my website. They created the site very promptly and cost efficient.”

Questions Perth tradies ask us

Can an Adelaide team build a website for a Perth tradie?

Yes. Everything runs by phone and email: you send your services, areas and photos, we build the draft online, and you ask for changes until you're happy, all before paying anything. Adelaide is 1.5 hours ahead of Perth, or 2.5 hours during South Australian daylight saving, so we're easy to reach during your day.

Which licence numbers does a WA tradie need on a website?

Registered builders and painters show their building services registration number. Electrical contractors show their EC licence number, and licensed plumbing contractors show their plumbing contractor licence number. If you hold more than one, we show each, labelled, so a customer can check them on the Building and Energy licence search.

How do we cover Yanchep to Mandurah without a messy suburb list?

Set the areas out by sub-region, list the suburbs you most want work from under each, and add one line on where you stop or start charging for travel. If you run crews across a big area, the 8-page site gives each sub-region its own page.

Should a builder mention bushfire-prone areas on the website?

If you build in them, yes. A home or substantial addition in a designated bushfire-prone area can need a BAL assessment, and owners there want to know their builder is familiar with the process. One line on the services section, or a short paragraph on a larger site, covers it.

Which package suits a Perth tradie?

A sole trader working one corridor is well served by the one-page site at $399. Trades covering two or more sub-regions usually suit the 3-page site at $899 and its separate page for service areas. The 8-page site at $1,499 is for crews covering Perth and Peel with several services.
