State rules in a sentence or two. Victoria has no general repairer licence; a Geelong workshop that issues roadworthy certificates needs a Licensed Vehicle Tester licence, and one that also sells cars needs a motor car trader's licence, with LMCT and the number in its advertising. Our Melbourne mechanics page sets out those rules, what a roadworthy does and doesn't cover, VACC membership and the rideshare inspection rules in full. The rest of this section is about Geelong.
The ferry at Corio Quay. On 22 October 2022 Spirit of Tasmania left Station Pier in Port Melbourne for the last time, and from 23 October its two ships began operating from Spirit of Tasmania Quay, a new terminal built by GeelongPort at 136 Corio Quay Road, North Geelong. The operator's advice to caravanners covers several things a workshop can help with: consider a service before departure, raise tyre pressures when towing, switch gas cylinders off for the crossing, and book the right total length and height, because vehicles are measured at check-in and a wrong booking can mean paying extra or being refused. Travellers from Melbourne and further afield now drive to North Geelong to board, so a workshop near the port has a reason to say so.
Where Geelong's customers live. The City of Greater Geelong had 271,057 people at the 2021 census across 1,248 square kilometres. Its largest localities were Highton, with 20,736, Lara, with 19,014, and Ocean Grove, with 17,714, the last two at opposite ends of the municipality. South of the city, the Great Ocean Road begins at Torquay in Surf Coast Shire and runs about 240 kilometres west to Allansford, near Warrnambool. A workshop in Belmont and one in Lara draw on quite different suburbs, which is why the site should name yours rather than say "Geelong region".
Write-offs and inspections. VACC's 2026 policy blueprint reports that only 10 businesses were approved to carry out Vehicle Identity Validation inspections as of October 2025: seven in metropolitan Melbourne and one each in Geelong, Kangaroo Flat and Tyabb. A repairable write-off has to pass that inspection, and then a roadworthy, before it's back on the road. For Geelong drivers and repairers, that's a much shorter trip than it is for most of regional Victoria, and a workshop that repairs write-offs can explain the route on its site.
How we work with Geelong workshops. We're an Adelaide team and work with Geelong businesses by phone and email; we don't visit workshops. You send your services, the suburbs you cover, your tester details and some phone photos; we build a draft you can open between jobs; you ask for changes until it's right and pay once you've approved it.
