Queensland trades deal with two main licensing bodies. Builders, plumbers, drainers and many other trades hold a QBCC licence, while electrical contractors are licensed through the Electrical Safety Office. The QBCC treats websites, social media pages and online directories as advertising, so your site must carry your licence number, the licensee's name (a trading name by itself won't do) and a statement that you're licensed under the QBCC Act, in text that's easy to read. Plumbing and drainage need a licence regardless of job size, and an unlicensed operator who advertises building work has to state the value limit they work under. WorkSafe Queensland asks electrical contractors to show their registered name and licence number on websites and social media as well.
The area most people call the Sunshine Coast is split between two councils. Sunshine Coast Council covers coastal centres such as Caloundra, Pelican Waters, Kawana, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore and Coolum, inland suburbs like Buderim and Sippy Downs, and the hinterland around Nambour, Maleny and the Blackall Range towns of Montville, Flaxton and Mapleton. Noosa Shire, re-established as a separate council on 1 January 2014, takes in Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin, Sunshine Beach, Cooroy and Pomona.
Growth isn't spread evenly. The council names Kawana, Caloundra South, Sippy Downs, Palmview and Beerwah East as its emerging communities and expects about 55% of new residents to live in them. Aura at Caloundra South is expected to reach about 50,000 residents, Palmview around 16,000 by 2036, and Beerwah East is forecast to provide 7,000 homes by 2041. If you're based in Nambour or Coolum and want work in those estates, the site should name them; if you'd rather stay close to home, it should say that instead.
We usually suggest setting out a service area the way the region is laid out: the southern end around Caloundra and Kawana, the middle around Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Buderim and Sippy Downs, the northern beaches from Coolum up, the hinterland, and Noosa if you go there. On a one-page site that's a short list with suburbs under each heading. On a bigger site each group can have its own page with jobs you've done there, the same approach we took with Bright Building's area pages for Adelaide, the Hills and the Fleurieu.
We're an Adelaide web design team at Hutt St and work with Sunshine Coast trades by phone and email. Nobody needs to meet: you send details and photos, we send a draft link, and nothing is paid until you approve it.
