The licensing is the same as anywhere in NSW: a Building Commission NSW licence for air conditioning and refrigeration work, whatever the job costs, including the associated electrical wiring; the advertising details NSW Fair Trading lists, which apply online; and a national refrigerant handling licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council. Our Sydney air conditioning page covers those, plus the Energy Savings Scheme discount and the night-time noise hours that changed in August 2026, so this section sticks to the Illawarra.
The City of Wollongong covers 684 square kilometres, a narrow strip with the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra escarpment to the west, running from Helensburgh down to Windang. The wider urban area carries on south through Shellharbour to Kiama. Records from the University of Wollongong weather station give a mean January maximum of 25.8°C, yet the record is 44.1°C, set on 1 January 2006. July averages 17.2°C by day and 8.4°C overnight, and July and August bring westerly gales that can gust above 100 km/h, generally dry foehn winds. That's a climate with a heatwave breakdown one month and a cold-snap heating install a few months later, and the site should be ready for both.
Builders' work here includes West Dapto, which the NSW Government describes as one of the state's fastest-growing residential areas outside Sydney. Much of its stage 3 precinct was rezoned in March 2024 for up to 2,275 new homes, and a rezoning announced in December 2024 allowed 225 more in the Cleveland Road precinct. New NSW homes are built to a BASIX certificate, and its energy commitments can name the cooling and heating for living areas and bedrooms: the Planning Portal's sample certificate sets out the type of air conditioning and its energy rating, 'or a system with a higher energy rating'. After the final inspection and before the occupation certificate is issued, the certifier must issue a BASIX completion receipt confirming the home was built as the certificate says. An installer who fits what the certificate names, and hands over the model numbers and energy ratings, is solving a builder's problem.
Industry is the third audience. Port Kembla, about 10 km south of the city centre, has an industrial complex described as one of the largest in Australia, known for BlueScope's steelworks, and a harbour that is a major coal export location. Commercial and industrial clients there choose contractors on different grounds from households: the equipment you work on, whether you take maintenance contracts and how they reach you when something stops. That belongs on its own page.
We're an Adelaide team and work with Illawarra businesses by phone and email. Our NSW trade clients include Tomi's Bobcat and Excavation further down the coast in the Bega Valley. We haven't built a site for an air conditioning business yet. You send your licences, services and suburbs, we send back a draft link, and you pay once you approve it.
